that said, Ryan is more qualified than Palin, Edwards; or even Mitt but it won't be perceived that way

I wonder if the plan was to pick McDonnell given the VA location, and something happened at the last minute.

Also consider that Ryan's a congressman, and they've not been nominated for president directly from Congress since... I don't even remember. You might have to go back to the 19th century.

Come on, if we couldn't do it, I doubt they'll be able to get Ryan nominated.

Richmond, Virginia (CNN) - Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will announce his running mate at the beginning of a four-day, four-state bus tour in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday at 9 a.m. ET, his campaign announced in a statement late Friday night.

Three Republican sources told CNN that Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin would be Romney’s running mate pick. GOP sources also told CNN that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and Ohio Sen. Rob Portman have all been told that they won’t be getting the nod.

IMO, the choice of Ryan will only expose the depth of debt we're in. The economy will probably get even worse as we discover that even Wonderboy's solutions to theccrisis won't work. And the "Tea Party" people will once again feel left out as they learn that Ryan voted for both TARP and Medicare Part D. There is no joy in Mudville. Or at least there won't be...if the media and the opposition are doing their homework.

It seems that Ron Paul wanted to cut ONE TRILLION DOLLARS in the first year, eh? And cut back the empire? Fat chance with this team.

Romney was impressed by how Ryan has managed to successfully present himself as some sort of fiscal conservative sage, and have many conservative blogs believe it, despite all his votes including the one he made in 2008 for the TARP bailout.

If he can do that, maybe Romney will truly be Reagan in their eyes by late October.

Yup and they will buy it. Reality doesn't matter as much as perception and they perceive him as being a fiscal conservative.

It's over for Romney campaign. Zero enthusiasm for Paul Ryan. He doesn't appeal to the youth or the Tea Party people that Romney thinks he will get. Going the middle road to pick a Washington insider and career politician doesn't make Romney any more appealing to the independents that he needs. It's a fake bold pick. This flip flop from his posture against career politicians like Santorum and Obama just won't fly. This is looking like the very exciting team of Dole/Kemp. Surely everyone wanting to run in 2016 will be happy.

Its a good pick for Romney to get the "conservative" base fired up because people actually think Ryan is "conservative".

Of course it actually isn't that great since Ryan is a typical modern republican from the Bush era.

Oh well it doesn't matter because Obama will be elected again anyway.
