Romney to select Paul Ryan for VP slot

Belongs in GP just like the rest of these threads. There's actual grassroots work to be done for PaulFest and for the Convention.

Besides voting for TARP and Auto Bailouts what else has this typical "conservative" done that "appeals" to voters?

"Join me in welcoming the next President of the United States, Paul Ryan?"

Big gaffe from Romney...so sad people actually chant this guys name.

There is a redefinition of 'fiscal conservatism' going on here. The media has been calling his budget "bold" and "conservative", and meanwhile the Dems are going to attack as if he is a radical, slashing spending. It sets a new baseline. In 2016 if Ryan then becomes the default front runner, anyone to the right of him is going to appear ultra radical, and the party thus gets moved another notch center. Game, set, match.

Correcto.

It's over for Romney campaign. Zero enthusiasm for Paul Ryan. He doesn't appeal to the youth or the Tea Party people that Romney thinks he will get. Going the middle road to pick a Washington insider and career politician doesn't make Romney any more appealing to the independents that he needs. It's a fake bold pick. This flip flop from his posture against career politicians like Santorum and Obama just won't fly. This is looking like the very exciting team of Dole/Kemp. Surely everyone wanting to run in 2016 will be happy.

Your right that Ryan is a bad choice, but you are wrong when you say he doesn't appeal to the Tea Party. He does. They will flock to him. But Ryan is going to be crucified by Obama on his slashing social spending/taxes approach.

Edit: I cannot spell today.

Paul Ryan appeals to the modern Tea Party in a serious way, you're right Ivash.

He and Rubio were the only ones who would appeal to younger voters anyway.

I read that ass kiss article. Paul Ryan love fest.......It makes him out to be some sort of economic visionary. Anybody know his stance on the Federal Reserve?

What kind of gullible fool believes a Bush?? And then he votes for TARP 5 years later. Paul Ryan is a gutless wonder.

In 2003, Ryan voted for adding a prescription-drug plan to Medicare—an incongruous vote for someone who has worked on entitlement reform for years and one that put him at odds with many of the conservative and libertarian policy types in whose world he lives. Ryan defends the vote, saying President Bush made it clear to him that he intended to sign one version of the bill or another: either a House version that included Ryan-sponsored amendments adding free-market reforms, or the Senate version without them. So Ryan unenthusiastically voted for the House bill. As he told journalist Philip Klein, “You don’t get to take the vote you want in Congress. Sometimes you have to take votes that you don’t want to take, but they’re the best of the two choices.”

As far as the Fed, Ryan appears to be a Friedman monetarist who is not overly concerned with the powers the Federal Reserve wields.

I hate this, the media will parrot him as being an ultra conservative when the guy is just as big government as Obama. Just that this guy pretends he's cutting spending.
