Re-Elect Sheriff Brad Rogers - Elkhart County, IN.

Goshen News Editorial: Like it or Not, Sheriff is Going to Speak Freely

Right or wrong, Rogers has proven he isn’t afraid to stand up against the big boys on behalf of Elkhart County citizens. In 2011 he threatened to arrest federal Food and Drug Administration officials if they attempted to inspect a dairy farm near Middlebury without either a warrant or owner consent. And this month he stressed that his loyalties are tethered to the Constitution, the supreme law of the U.S.A. since 1789, not its potential edits.

"Ask the Sheriff" Column

The Reserve unit serves in more than normal and routine tasks of a sheriff. As sheriff, I can call the citizens of the county to aid in an emergency. The reserve unit allows for a highly trained “posse” to be ready and able to respond in a moment’s notice to support my regular deputies, area police agencies and our community, regardless of the emergency.

Sheriff talks guns, Trayvon Martin, school shootings.
GOSHEN — Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers takes his oath of office and gun rights seriously. He wishes other government officials would do the same. Rogers talked about the United States Constitution, his oath of office, and the Second Amendment while at a Monday night meeting of the tea party group, Elkhart County Patriots. Rogers has become a local speaker on these themes. He even appeared on Anderson Cooper 360 on CNN earlier this year as part of a panel talking about gun rights.

Sheriff Rogers seeks re-election, touts focus on Constitution, attention to inmates

GOSHEN — Elkhart County Sheriff Brad Rogers, outspoken proponent of gun rights and critic of federal government overreach, will seek a second term in office.

The conservative Republican, who won election to his first term in 2010 with strong tea party support, announced his plans Wednesday, Jan. 8, the first day to formally file for office. He also filed his re-election paperwork with the Elkhart County Clerk’s Office.

In a statement, Rogers said he has a “reputation of integrity and dedication.” He called himself “a servant of the people and ... a guardian of the Constitution.”

Rogers cited what he said was his openness to the public, his emphasis on upholding the Indiana and U.S. constitutions, his focus on rehabilitation of inmates in the Elkhart County jail and his push to increase ministry opportunities in the jail. He further noted efforts to crack down on crime and maintain safe roads, calling himself a “cutting-edge leader.”

A quick update. Sheriff Rogers is unopposed in the republican primary! There was talk of a challenger, but that never came to fruition. The democrats will probably put someone up to run against him. (Last time it was a caterer, and a janitor the time before that.)

His facebook page has just passed 1,000 "likes" making it one of the largest political pages in the area! https://www.facebook.com/BradleyDeanRogers

Thanks for the update and your efforts! I used to have some friends up there, and was really surprised to hear they got a great sheriff like him. Hoping he stays in office!

Statement on the Bundy Ranch situation:

The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) will be holding a press conference at the Bundy ranch on Monday. After researching the details of this situation, I have decided not to attend the press conference. A number of factors go into this decision, none of which was the lack of overwhelming financial support offered so that I would not use taxpayer funds for the trip.

If the Sheriff of Clark Co, Nevada, was taking a stand to protect the farmer and he needed Sheriffs to stand with him in unity, I would go. However, even though he was declared "Sheriff of the Year" by the National Sheriff's Association (of which I have no part of), he apparently does not respect his Oath of Office. He has let his people down.

There will be many other, geographically closer, Oathkeepers and Constitutional Sheriffs (as well as civilians) that will stand with the Bundy's. I'm not ruling out a trip later. Nor, in my not going am I suggesting that the Feds are correct. I'm not entirely sure Bundy is correct. But whether Bundy is wrong or not, the response from the Feds is ridiculous, just as their response at Waco and Ruby Ridge was. The local Sheriff could have resolved both of those situations peacefully.

Other reasons for not going include my responsibility to Elkhart County as Sheriff; I have duties and important meetings I need to attend Monday through Wednesday that cannot be rescheduled. Fortunately, Elkhart County has little to do with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). But we do have the occasional incursion of other alphabet soup vexations. I remain vigilant. - Sheriff Brad Rogers

Just returned from a long weekend trip to Bunkerville, Nevada where the Bundy Ranch conflict with the BLM/Oathkeepers continues. I went there on vacation, not using any taxpayer money for the trip, to seek out information and encourage the Sheriff to get involved to keep this situation from escalating out of control. There is a lot of misinformation, but I saw details first hand and will be sharing additional information today as I have time to write it. - Sheriff Brad Rogers

Actually, the campaign isn't taking donations at this time. No primary opponent at the moment. If there is a democrat in the general, then we might reconsider.
