PPP Poll - Iowa GOP Presidential Primary

Ron got 15% last time w/o Huck trump or Palin and he got 11% this time. Margin or error is 4.5% which means Ron has stayed the same basically. This is not as bad as some are trying to make it sound.

Yeah, looks like they took the scalpel to this poll. I don't trust PPP results to be truly accurate, I think they have underlying motives.

the truth is we have been getting 10-15% in Most polls ( without Huck and Palin) and this is nothing different.

I believe they have declared themselves to be a Democrat polling company, and we all know Paul has polled the best against Obama.

The problem is the favorability numbers. -25 from last time is really bad, no matter how you slice it.

I think Ron Paul will go even higher in the polls when people know he's actually in the race.

This is depressing. He's been running for president twice before, he should know how to present drug war views better than he did in the first debate. He should have just said the federal government has no Constitutional authority and let the states decide. Instead he goes "well what's so bad about having them legalized?"

That's NOT how you win over Republican voters, no matter how true it may be. If he's running an education campaign, fine, but once the first debate ended I was pretty depressed, and this is why. We have a good shot to win and he has been screwing himself up over a couple easily avoided issues.

Even if Cain did win the nomination, he would have no chance against obama. You can win a nomination but you can't win the presidency when you go "I'm not telling you what I would do on foreign policy until I'm elected"

There are many ways to answer a question truthfully and sometimes I wish he would take Rand's more diplomatic approach on certain questions.

I agree.

Some people here don't like Rand's less bold approach, but to be honest, it's the only way libertarianism is ever going to advance

Ron played his role in bringing attention to some key issues, but the future is with Rand's approach.

Rand holds 99% of Ron's positions but presents it in a more polished manner. He makes what was formerly unpalatable to the GOP rank-and-file into something that is palatable. Hell, he just sold Sean Hannity on why the Patriot Act goes too far

Ron gets distracted by non-issues (heroin legalization?). Rand has done a good job of avoiding philosophical arguments except for the CRA controversy

You're right - Ron is clearly running an educational campaign here.

The second that Ron did his heroin dance shenanigans, I knew he was not serious about actually winning

I applaud him for being principled but my money and time will be better spent on candidates who actually want to win (Senate, House, state offices)

This is based on less than 500 out of 85,832(08 turnout for republicans) Iowa republican primary voters? Thats about .006% of primary voters, this has no relevance in my opinion. Keep doing what your doing and stop paying attention to polls like this. If you let it get you down or feel defeated then your letting the media beat you.

85,832x.006% = 514

Or better yet, Ron could start trying to present his views in the most appealing possible light for Republican primary voters, so that he could actually have a chance of, you know, winning.

In other words, start acting like Rand! "So Rand you would legalize heroin" Rand: "Well, I would say we need to look at the drug war and if it's being cost effective and if not we may need to cut spending because it's not be effective..."

I love Ron's bluntness, but the sheep have no common sense, nor intellect to understand the true message of the constitution. I'm not dumping Ron, but is it to late to insert Rand?

Most polls have around 500 participants. This poll is accurate.

This may be true, but this time last time Ron was polling MAYBE 2 percent if that. We have a nucleus to work with we just gotta keep digging and Ron needs to start answer questions more like Rand.

But if the caucus were held today, Ron would do worse than he did in January 2008.

I don't think so, I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly Ron did better in the caucus than he did in the polls leading up to them.

it might be because ron paul's supporters are probably more likely to actually show up and vote than any other candidate's.
