Grassroots needs to send a clear strong request for RP to confirm attendence.

Money is short and this is a very cost-effective way to broadcast the message. Romney said he won't be there, so it is an opportunity for each of the anti-Romneys to compare and contrast themselves. It is a PBS debate so I imagine that time allotted to each candidate will be fair.

PLANS MOVE FORWARD FOR THE MARCH 19TH
OREGON REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Portland, OR – Despite the news that Governor Mitt Romney has declined to participate in the Oregon Presidential Primary Debate, the Oregon Republican Party announced today that it is prepared to move forward with the debate between the three remaining candidates: Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.

Gingrich has accepted the invitation. Organizers are awaiting final confirmation from the Santorum and Paul campaigns. (emphasis mine). The Oregon Republican Party believes that the timing and the format of this debate will provide valuable insight to the American public.

“By now voters know a little about each of the candidates,” says ORP Chairman Allen Alley. “We want to give American voters an opportunity to hear more in-depth, thoughtful answers from the candidates about where they stand on critical issues facing our nation.”

PBS and NPR will air the debate live, broadcasting it throughout the country on public television and radio stations. Video of the debate will stream live on pbs.org and npr.org. In addition, the live feed will be made available to Armed Forces Radio and TV, Voice of America and the PBS UK Channel. The debate will be closed captioned in English and in Spanish and a Spanish language translation will broadcast on a secondary audio channel.

PBS NewsHour’s Senior Correspondent Ray Suarez and The Washington Times Chief Political Correspondent Ralph Z. Hallow will moderate the 90-minute debate, which will take place in OPB’s studio at 6:00 p.m. (PDT) on Monday March 19th.

Chairman Alley is available for additional comments and interviews. Please contact the Oregon Republican Party at (503) 595-8881.

Does PBS have an update so we can know for sure? It would be well worth attending if it goes on as planned

The cited article refers to the statement posted last week on the Oregon Republican Party (ORP) site, but not to the update that was posted today. Even though the Atlantic article is time stamped 41 minutes later (6:41 PM EST vs. 3:00PM PST) than the ORP update, it may not reflect the latest information. Note that Gingrich confirmed his acceptance according to the ORP.

I think it makes RP look bad if he doesn't accept. If the message is important, every possible avenue to broadcast it needs to be employed. The media is marginalizing RP to an increasing degree. This is an opportunity to counter that at virtually no cost.

Unfortunately, from an article I saw, they already turned it down, as did Santorum. I had thought the same thing, it is a state where Ron should do well, and I thought he could use the debate. I only saw that one article on it, though, maybe they were wrong.

I'd like to see him there, if the decision is still to be made. Mind you, I don't know what he has 'instead', but unless it is hugely important, I'd vote for the debate if the question is still open. Super Tuesday was different. First, he had TONS of places he had to be and the state the debate was in was one he was NOT going to do well in. Second, he had just had a debate where he did very well, and that was a good taste to leave in people's mouths approaching super Tuesday. If he can still do it now, it would be great. But I don't know if there is a graceful way to go backwards if they already said no.

I e-mailed the campaign begging them to reconsider. We need air time and this is it, for free. Please get in on the debate!

The ORP update issued Tuesday afternoon makes no reference to Ron Paul and Santorum having previously turned the debate down. The ORP wants the debate to happen. I'd say that leaves an opening to gracefully accept without losing face, even if the event was privately turned down before.

Everyone, please do what you can to make this debate happen! Anyone with a contact within the official campaign, please reach out.

Doug Wead is having a facebook conversation today at 9PM EST. Please go to his facebook page and speak out in favor.

It isn't free....there are travel, lodging, car rental and other costs involved to participate in a debate...but yes, they are worth it and he should attend.

The campaign HAS to find a way to get this to work. Looks like PBS is willing to make this work even if all candidates don't show up.

And Romney could show up if the other candidates do. Besides...if Romney doesn't show...that leaves more time for Ron and chances to get uncontested shots on him in regards to his support of bailouts and his bank donors.

I read the same thing, where Paul said he wasn't attending. I wonder if PBS is trying to convince the candidates to reconsider...

Who exactly is "they"? Real names. Accountability is required.

I really want him to attend this debate. PBS will do a better job than the dopes of the msm.

Make sure you are on the Doug Wead FB tonight, bring this up, repeatedly until he says he'll pass it along. It's our best direct shot.

Also, how about The Collins, Zanzibar...?

i want to go to this if it happens, though something tells me I wouldn't get a ticket.
