OFFICIAL Sanford v Colbert-Busch RESULTS THREAD (update: Sanford WINS!)

Not excited either way. Have to do more research on Sanford, doesnt seem like a Ron Paul type anyways

Sanford was remarkably good during his first tenure in the House, was mooted as a future leader of the Liberty Movement until his career imploded following his affair, and was endorsed by both Ron and Rand to return to the House. If you're not excited, you should be :)

His voting record as a congressman would say otherwise and I suppose being the most libertarian-minded governor in the US doesn't mean anything either.

Wow, she will be well known by tomorrow! Are you watching the feed? This will be a top trend in an hour.

There's a story about her dad and his first wife. She was in car accident and crippled from memory and he left her for the rich beer franchise girl when he came back from Nam lol... that's pretty bad.

I think he now pays her medical bills and as a result she shut up.

Do they really want to bring all this up again?

I'm guessing no one really knows when he's supposed to be sworn in? I don't know how that works with special elections.

don't forget SC is 1st primary in the south, and this time Sanford has to endorse Rand.
and
by 2016 his mistress will be his second wife (as was Nancy Reagan) and could be an asset in the hispanic commuity for Rand

Ron knew exactly what he was doing.

In the last special election, Robin Kelly won her election Tuesday night and was sworn in on Thursday. Sanford has to appear in court on Thursday though so he may not get sworn in until Friday.

Hmmm, I always thought he was a tea party type

Yeah, he was one of them very, very rare select few who voted with Ron Paul during the late 90s and early 2000s. He even self-identifies as a libertarian. He could come in and easily replace Ron as the dean of the Liberty Movement, a speaker of sorts of the liberty movement in the house.

Edit: Not that anyone could replace Ron, but if he wants to, he could easily become a leader of the liberty movement and probably THE leader of the libertarian sector of the house. Just as Rand is in the Senate and also like Rand could expand his influence beyond the libertarian sector of the Republican party.

He opposed Kosovo and opposed Iraq war resolutions. Only 2 GOP did back then the other being Ron Paul.

He'll easily be in the top 5 of GOP congressmen if he sticks to his principles.

The only question is what he's like on civil liberties. He was out of congress for all the bad bills after 9/11 I wonder how he would have voted on them.

He did mention the constitution and limited government in his victory "speech" so that's a good sign.

He also mentioned the dollar.

I wonder if he will get 8 years of seniority for the governorship. I know Senate members do but dont know about House.

He is the only former governor in the house. Politico say he's going to have a big profile which is what i thought. The other SC congressman absolutely didnt want him there lol.

It seems as though neo-con-baby Meghan McCain is taking shots at Sanford...

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/06/29/meghan-mccain-sanford-affair-is-private-matter/

And here she is in 2009-

"Above all, the Sanford scandal just makes me sad for my party," she wrote on the Daily Beast Web site. "The GOP is struggling right now to find anyone who looks to be our next leader. Those who have been anointed so far have ended up falling completely short. Going forward, I suggest that the party concentrate less on what goes on in the bedroom and more on what is going on in policy."

...Pick a side and stick with it already, lady!

There are hardly any Hispanics in South Carolina, nearly all the ones they do have are Mexican not Argentinian, few of them vote, and if they do vote it would be in the Democratic Primary. Beyond all that, the notion that an Argentinian would be useful in swaying the Mexican vote because they are both "Hispanic" is as realistic as the idea an Israeli would make a good pitchman for the Arab vote because they are both "Middle Eastern".

You are right that Rand backing Sanford when he needed it will win him an important power broker come GOP primary time though.

I wonder how Erika and the morons at hotair now feel. 2 hours ago she had him losing HAHAHA...

I told you the truth on RPF before hardly anyone voted.

Don't get carried away Nostradomus. It was obvious to most paying attention that Sanford would win regardless of the bs polling. I like your schtick but don't hang your hat on an entirely predictable outcome.

For example (not my tweet):

LOL, love the tweet !! She had some gonads to bring up infidelity, and should subscribe to the theory "He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones".

Yes, she is correct in that Mark Sanford can't stand up to her Dad's record:

McCain crashed 5 jets, plus was responsible for the Forrestal fire. Something made the plane behind McCain fire a rocket, which hit McCain's external center fuel tank, and caused a fire. McCain panicked, and dropped two bombs into the fire.
Surviving crewmen of the USS Forestal and those who investigated the Forrestal fire case reported that McCain deliberately 'wet-started' his A-4E Skyhawk to shake up the guy in the F-4 Phantom behind his plane.
'Wet-starts', done either deliberately (the starter motor switch allowed kerosene to pool in the engine and give a wet start) or accidentally, shoot a large flame from the tail of the aircraft.'Wet starting' was a common practice among young 'hot-dog' pilots.
In McCain's case, the 'wet-start''cooked off' and launched the M34 Zuni rocket from the rear F-4 that punctured the Skyhawk's fueltank, knocked the M-65 1000 lb bomb off it's 500 lb rated mount, and touched off the explosions and massive fire.

When the carrier Oriskany came along side, and McCain was put in a chopper and whisked away. McCain was the only Forrestal crewman to be immediately transferred .I have a hunch McCain left for his own safety, because the crew wanted blood.

This was covered up because his father commanded the Pacific fleet. He was immediately transfered off the Forestal. 134 dead, 161 injured. He was a goof off in high school and at the academy, fnnished at the bottom of his class destroying 3 airplanes and his record in the navy was such that he saw no opportunity to advance to the admiralty and chose politics instead.
