Official Q3 Military Donations Thread

http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2011/Q3/

The FEC is currently in the process of releasing fundraising info for Q3. In past quarters, Ron Paul has received more donations from military service members than all other GOP candidates and President Obama combined. This tells us that our troops know exactly what Dr. Paul is talking about when it comes to foreign policy, and want a leader who will bring them home. Let's take a look at last quarter:

This is obviously a powerful statistic, but with new Q3 numbers currently being released, we need to update our numbers as well. This means going through the FEC reports of each candidate, specifically contributions by employer, and tallying down all donations made by members of the military. It's a lot of work, but this is valuable information that we need to know. Dusman already has a fantastic ad that's centered around this statistic, but it needs to be updated. The sooner we can get this information, the sooner we can work toward running this ad in newspapers throughout Iowa and New Hampshire.

We need volunteers to go through the FEC reports of each candidate and report their military contributions here. Already, I've gone through Gary Johnson's (unfortunately not that hard to do) and Lafayette has gone through Obama's and Romney's. Please post detailed information of military donations along with the grand total. What constitutes as a military donation: if someone lists their employer as the army, navy, marines, air force, coast guard, veteran, active duty, military, soldier, etc. Post here if you have any questions about what constitutes as a military donation and hopefully we can get some kind of consensus. Please note that we are only counting active duty, not retired.

Again, to find the FEC report for each candidate click here: http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2011/Q3/

Once on each candidate's report, click on "Contributions By Employer."

UPDATE: Courtesy of the hard work of many volunteers in this thread, we finally have the Q3 numbers for all the candidates. Graphic courtesy of 2ndfor1st:

I'm currently going through Huntsman's numbers, will update when they are tallied. Can someone do Pawlenty?

Okay, looks like Lafayette missed one for Romney.

Are we including retired military? Or just active duty? Thoughts?

Ron likes to say "active duty military people", so it would be best to keep active duty separate. Seeing retired numbers would be interesting too.

Alright, we'll only count active duty then. I believe this is what was done last quarter as well.

I would count both Vets and Active Duty, but keep them seperate for now.

Yeah, the consensus seems to be only active duty, but I agree we should be keeping track of vets as well.

These numbers seem to be good for Ron so far. Obama is way down in active duty donations from last quarter, and Romney didn't get more than he did in Q2 either. I'm expecting Perry's numbers to be pretty impressive, but if Ron builds on his numbers from last quarter, his percentage of military donations could be even better than it was in Q2.

I wouldn't bother counting contributions from vets or retired military. The vast majority of them won't identify themselves as such because they're not asked to disclose that information when they contribute.

So by the definition that retired aren't included, Obama's number is even lower than the one that was posted. I will take the time to comb through his numbers again and post an updated number.

Two things:

- how are you doing this now (hand-totals or what)
- is the FEC data updated yet, I don't see that new data is out
