It's not "one obscure quote"! And I'm NOT misrepresenting it! Did you watch the clip from the Tim Russert interview? Obama said clearly and unequivicolly that he wanted mandatory military or civilian service for young people. Why can't you just admit the truth to yourself? We have two different incidents of Obama speaking on record in favor of a draft. We have Charlie Rangel still introducing legislation for a draft. We have Obama supporters like Susan Eisenhower advocating for a draft. So a draft is very much on the table.
How is he going to accomplish this? Maybe he won't be able to. He tried to push for universal healthcare and that stalled. Still most Americans were against all of the bailouts from the TARP under Bush to the auto bailouts under Obama, yet they passed. Cap and trade passed the house over opposition of a majority of Americans although it hasn't gotten through the senate yet.
It's totally naive to think that we shouldn't start opposing something until it has a realistic chance of passing. Four years ago cap and trade never would have gotten through the house, but now it did. And YOU need to quit misrepresenting what I'm saying! I'm not saying that a draft will happen tomorrow! I'm saying that Obama is ON RECORD (two times now) supporting mandatory military service! The first quote may have been debatable BUT THE SECOND QUOTE IS NOT SUBJECT TO HONEST DEBATE! He said it. He meant it. Get over it. Prepare to fight it. Or prepare to suffer the consequences years down the road. I'm a parent of elementary school aged boys. I'm not as much worried about what might happen to 18 year olds tomorrow as I am what is being set up to happen to them 5 to 10 years from now. We didn't take the cap and trade threat as seriously as we should have and look where it got us!

"If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some," Senator Barack Obama declared.
Just throwing this out there. I may be way off, but while thinking about this, an appalling thought started to form:
Is it possible that Obama is really anti-black? Consider this -- if he creates a military draft that targets inner city black youth for service and they go to war, at the very least doesn't that remove them from their neighborhoods, and even possibly remove them entirely? What would be the motivation? I don't know. Possibly to break negative social trends among black youth...particularly males? If they are removed...lowers black-on-black crime rate. Or is it an opportunity to have a captive audience to train for military...thus different thinking, which also accomplishes the same thing. So I am saying, perhaps in this suggested aim he is possibly anti-black in its current social form found in the inner city? (BTW this is not to say I am a racist or bigoted, so please don't go there. I am thinking about this in an abstract sense)

blacks in general are pro-draft, as are most liberals. when Rangel first introduced his bill most of the black caucus supported it.
