MITHRAS = CHRISTIANITY?

An mere oversight in the sacred HOLY WORD OF GOD?

December 25th, does that ring a bell? Best I can do on short notice. What counts as ancient? How about all of the evidence ONLY using your own mind?

I could read you the OP again, would that help? :D
25 Dec. is not his birthday. That's the date it is celebrated by many Christians.

A mere oversight in the sacred HOLY WORD OF GOD?

Why would you consider that an oversight? Do you consider birthdays really important?

December 25th, does that ring a bell?

Yes. We celebrate Christmas on that date. Christians don't teach that it's the day Jesus was actually born though.

What counts as ancient?

How about anything older than AD 500?

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Never mind its ancientness. Can you find any evidence at all that is any better than some guy no more knowledgeable than yourself making some claim on a website?

That silly. This thread is "MITHRAS = CHRISTIANITY?" He strongly believes this. The rebuttal is in this thread. That's the purpose of a discussion forum.

Read the first page of the thread, most of it is this sub forums usual fluff and not anything by which a drive by reader could see a rebuttal. It is distracting to wade through and by page 2, who bothers? HU provided a video, but most will skip over that in preference for a point 1 is wrong because response. Who really wants to read long OP then sit through a video that may or may not deal with the points in OP? So far seems like it is people talking past each other, and I only waded into the discussion hoping to point out why some of us might post threads we don't engage in because we care about providing another way to see the glass even if we may not agree with everything in the article we post. I know some have made great leaps as to what I believe after they assume I support something I bring up for such a reason as to expand exposure to other viewpoints.

I got the impression most folks were not on board with the original premise but not a serious why as my eyes glazed over after page 1. I sure don't blame those who might agree with the original premise from not participating because it usually isn't worth the trouble when certain people can derail the conversation and waste people's time as often as they do. (And I say this as a general response of those who fail to affirm unconventional stances and not so's the usual witch hunters can assume I have an opinion on the OP) :)

Don't you think you should first expect to see a substantive point made by the affirmative side before you will find a rebuttal of it?

Up to this point in the thread, what is there to rebut? I'm still waiting to see RT off any evidence for...well...any claim at all.

OK. And?

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but most of what you have posted above again is either bunk or it was added to Mithraism in Roman paganism to imitate Christianity not the other way around. The Persian (original) Mithraism is completely different than the post Christian version.

A similar birthday of two different God's does not equal the worship of both.

Ah, so they screwed over Mithra too, eh? Paul couldn't manage to come up with anything more original to use?

I never claimed it did. BTW, there are many more than two. Dec. 25 was was a very popular day for pagan deities to be born, or so it would seem.

Fine, shut down the whole "Peace Through Religion" board, and I mean that. Screw it!

You and Ronin are chronic victims, always judging the Christians in your lives. Not enough "fruit", not enough "love", not enough "peace". Never enough for you, two. Then add in the various non-Christian beliefs and what you have left is confusion, anger, and frustration. I do feel for you, however, not enough to not call you out on your continuing to whine about knowledgeable Christians defending their faith.

Chronic victims? No, I have a distaste for those of you who find greater importance validating your specialness at the expense of others and lack empathy or compassion. It doesn't make me a victim to disagree with another person even if those I disagree with seem to think that by ganging up and drowning dissent out they are then correct in their own beliefs.

Whine about knowledgeable Christians? That is just absurd. I never complain about those who are knowledgeable about Love and work to promote such in society. It is a shame that such an small, obnoxious minority of religious folks so often does the devil's work for him and claims to be Christian spreading the faith of Love...

It does seem largely a waste. :( I am guessing this is sort of the HT of religious threads so they don't get space in other sub forums but allow folks to release pressure somewhere.

Where does Tarsus come into the picture (check the OP)?

I don't know. Paul was from Tarsus. But do you have any evidence that Mithraism was big there?

Can you find anything anywhere in any of Paul's writings that reflect any influence by Mithraism at all?

And I'm still waiting for your responses from a somewhere several posts back.

Or are you really celebrating the birthdays of several pagan deities, while Satan laughs his ass off every year? :D

This bothered me for a while at one stage in my faith. I teetered between how to deal with it and its effect on the children either way with to celebrate or not.

You have never even claimed Christ as your Savior and Lord, moostraks. Never put it in print. You post bible verses, with no context. What is your statement of faith for Christ? And yet, you continue to judge and manipulate the words of faith of true Christians.

Ronin loves the attention these threads provide him and I think you do, too.

I figure from all the Paul stuff that DOESN'T MATCH and contradicts Jesus, that he must have gotten it from somewhere.

Mithra could be a very likely candidate, given his background.

OP had 6 numbered points. If I was inspired enough to be aggravated by the thread then I would start there.
