[Milei WINS!] Javier Milei, Austrian econ. prof. & ancap, runs for president of Argentina

Why would he include cap & trade in his omnibus bill, though, and not pull out of the Paris accord right off the bat?

Because he is not the OmniGod of Argentina who can just do whatever he pleases across the board. He has had to coalition with other more establishmentarian elements, to whom he must make concessions in order to get their support for the other things he wants.

IOW: Because politics.

Okay but how Argentina even afford to engage in such a scam which is a tax and sends money out of the country?

Meanwhile...

Milei, in an interview with the news channel Todo Noticias, said that the intention is to define the practice of printing money — known as seigniorage — as a criminal offense.

“The bill will define seigniorage as a criminal offense and in case the Central Bank finances the treasury, either directly or indirectly, the president of the Central Bank, the board of directors, the president of the Nation and the officials who vote for it would end up in jail,” Milei said.

The objective, Milei said, is “not to be able to issue money to finance the Treasury,” pointing out the previous administration of former socialist President Alberto Fernández that, during his disastrous four-year presidency, printed the equivalent of 18 percent of Argentina’s GDP in pesos.

The bill is part of Milei’s “shock therapy” plan to restore Argentina’s economy after nearly two decades of socialist rule left the South American country with a record inflation rate and on the verge of entering a hyperinflation spiral.

The legislation would help to reduce public spending to such an extent that the national government will be able to pay for its operations with its resources, without the need to resort to the issuance of money by the Central Bank of Argentina.

Trumpies go from trashing him nonstop to trying to ride his coat tails. No wonder...

LOL

I showed the same open minded skepticism towards both in the beginning.
Milei is already giving mixed results and some purists are already trashing him for it.
I'll be open minded and possibly supporting him long after the TDS crowd turn on him if they are as fair as they were with Trump and he doesn't underperform dramatically enough to be worse than Trump.

An interesting slip of the tongue.

Not at all.
Trump did underperform the theoretical ideal.
But he was still a net positive and performed close to the best possible under the circumstances.

Milei is following a similar trajectory but may do better or worse depending on his circumstances and personal performance, he may even do badly enough to be a net negative, we'll just have to watch and see.

Um, pardon? Milei slashed half of the Argentine government on, what, day 2? HALF. Look, if I vote I will vote for Trump because there really isn't any other viable option, but his record over the course of 4 years vs. a few months of Milei is just no comparison. Milei could leave office today and he would have achieved a ton more than Trump did in this entire term.

Underperformed??? A net positive??? hahahaha
That lowlife lying sack of shit couldn't keep his word if his life depended on it.
He pushed the covid scam that shutdown the economy
He increased spending and debt to record levels after saying he'd get rid of the debt in 8 years
[h=1]Trump: I will eliminate U.S. debt in 8 years[/h]

Agree except there is a viable option in RFK Jr

As we Italian Americans say, "menza menz..."

Kennedy is so-so (in other words) in my opinion. And he's not going to win. A third party candidate hasn't won a presidential election since TR in... what? 1902?

He may win. I'm hoping anyway. I think the debates will help quite a bit.

One, Roosevelt was still a Republican in '02. Two, the Republican Party was the third party when Lincoln won in 1860. Three, the nation wasn't any closer to civil war when Lincoln the Third Party Candidate won than it is now.

Four, either we decide if he wins or this is no longer a republic. Don't you want to find out for sure if this is still a republic or not? Or would you prefer to maintain a state of denial?

They can't. But his coalition partners don't care about that.

Milei has principles - but he has to make concessions, because politics. (Ron Paul - or anyone like him - would have had to do the same.)

Trump can't do that, though, because he doesn't really have any principles.

The hell of it is, that still puts Trump ahead of Biden and others, who have bad principles.

He didn't increase it, Congress did.
And he didn't have 8 years either.

Milei has better conditions than Trump had and I am not one of those attacking him yet, I'm just keeping my eye on things like that Cap and Trade system he put in his omnibus law.
We will see what Milei does going forward, he could get better and better, or he could crash and burn and become a net negative if he keeps doing things like Cap and Trade or worse.
