I read all this and have to tell you all what is happening to me right now.
I am in the service industry and my first store I still have open in Ca.
I have no choice but to close it down for a couple of reasons.
First,The environmental compliance issues,In other states they have very
common sense environmental regulations that allow me to conduct business
and still help protect the environment. In Ca. the requirments are so unproductive
and stringent that it takes nearly all my profit to comply.Putting these costs on
to my customer does not work because I then cannot compete in price with
the big boys,The rules are just not made for small business.
Next,I have found that I will have to change my primary language to spanish
because of the fact that my customers refuse to try and learn any english at all !
A customer that can speak english is becoming a rarity in southern Ca.
To sum it all up: I collected 250,000 dollars in sales taxes for the state of Ca.
last year and next year they will get none from my one little store in Ca.
I have talked with many that are doing the samething and asking why I was
so stupid to have kept it open as long as I did.
This is why Ca. is in trouble ! and now the big three that caused it long ago are
in the house and the senate to destroy the rest of the country.

Oh please, people will do any job at the proper price. Sure I can't find someone who will mow my lawn for $5, but as I raise the price I am willing to pay, more and more people become willing to do the job. That is how the market works. They are able to accept lower pay and a lower standard of life, often as a temporary situation for a few years, and then return with their savings to their native country. Or send the money home across the border where it goes further while they live here. So now the roofer that used to make 18 an hour, has to either accept 12 an hour as the new going rate or find a new line of work. Its not about race, its about people who are citizens of this country should have priority over foreigners. Its about having a sensible labor policy. Our ancestors worked hard to build this country to the state it is at today, why should we just hand it over to anyone and everyone with a pulse? The same way that China has closed down most American factories with their endless supply of cheap widgets, Mexico will close down blue collar work for Americans with their endless supply of cheap labor.

It's probably true, as Schwarzenegger said Sunday on "State of the Union" on CNN, that California pays "approximately a billion dollars for the incarceration of undocumented immigrants" and gets only $100 million in return. The federal government does indeed have an obligation to reimburse the state for part of the cost of the failure to adequately control the nation's borders, and the governor is right to seek every bit of revenue and reimbursement due to the state, to decrease the damage caused by inevitable cuts.

In our ideal society, there would be no imaginery borders, only private property borders. Therefore, it would be up to the individual property owner of who, or who not can come onto their property. Generally, this arrangement would probably be included in some kind of land association (packaged with police/law/courts/fire/etc.), like the land clubs of the west.

It is however, foolish to call for open borders with our current policies. "Open borders" or, private property, itself is not. It is consistent with libertarian principles and morality. I think it would be a grave mistake to have open borders right now, and I would be on the side of immigration control at this time, however, it is not my end goal. I suppose this is one area where I differ with Rothbard and take the utilitarian approach.

Left-libertarians are generally mutualists/anarcho-syndicalists, etc. Right-libertarians, are generally voluntaryists/minarchists like Nozick. Both of which believe in "open borders".

Great post. There are many in the liberty movement who would do the bidding of the globalists by pushing for open borders. I'm just trying to figure out if they are oblivious to the destruction it causes or if they enjoy that destruction.

i dont have a problem with a mexican taking a job if he can do it better and cheaper (free market), however the problem is with the social programs and health care that immigrants become a huge liability. Even if they can work for $2 cheaper an hour, collecting welfare + education + health will cost 10's of thousands a year and completely wipe out their $2/hr work savings on the free market.

So, the problem is with the social programs that allows these people to leech so easily.

I do have a problem with our country getting gang raped.. You have the President of Mexico handing out brochures telling these people how to get here, how to get on the welfare list.. how to get free food, free medical care, etc. all on my dollar and yours'.

If they want to come here legally, that is great by me. But those that do come here illegally, do so knowing they are breaking the law. So do you want to spend your next 20 years supporting those with that type of criminal mindset? I don't..

I've discovered why we don't need Mexican's to pick our peaches anymore. I was at the grocery store today and I noticed that South Africa and Greece both export peaches. The American peaches in the grocery store cost the most.

I bought the Greek peaches. Problem solved. All the illegal Mexican's can go home. The marketplace can supply all our food needs outside of peaches also. We don't have to buy anything made by an illegal alien.
