Reporting on the pay-walled June 2025 Israeli newspaper Haaretz article ‘It’s a Killing Field’: IDF Soldiers Ordered to Shoot Deliberately at Unarmed Gazans Waiting for Humanitarian Aid,” Common Dreams writes:
“Israel Defense Forces commanders ordered troops to shoot and shell aid-seeking Palestinian civilians in Gaza, even when they posed no threat, according to IDF officers and soldiers interviewed by Israel’s oldest daily newspaper.
Haaretz on Friday published testimonies of IDF members including senior officers who said that commanders including Brig. Gen. Yehuda Vach ordered troops to open fire on aid-seeking Palestinians in order to disperse them, even when there was no danger to Israeli troops.
“It’s a killing field,” one soldier said. “Where I was stationed, between one and five people were killed every day. They’re treated like a hostile force—no crowd-control measures, no tear gas—just live fire with everything imaginable: heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, mortars. “
In July 2025 a US Special Forces officer, Lt. Col. Anthony Aguilar, bore witness to IDF and contract security killing starving civilians trying to get food at distribution centers.
Lt. Col. Aguilar said to BBC on July 25, 2025:
“I witnessed the Israeli Defense Forces firing a a main gun tank round from the Marava tank into a crowd of people, destroying a car of of civilians that were that were simply driving away from the [food distribution] site…”
Lt. Col. described what he saw as “war crimes.”
Aguilar said:
“I would say that they’re criminal. In my entire career have I never witnessed the level of brutality and use of indiscriminate and unnecessary force against a civilian population, an unarmed, starving population”
Such behaviors are only the most recent and widely reported of an incredibly long litany of school bombings, hospital bombings, Christian church bombings, and indiscriminate violence for decades on the part of the IDF Israeli Defense Forces, which calls itself “the most humane military force in the world.”
The Jerusalem Post reports on March 4, 2025 in “Netanyahu’s funding for Hamas via Qatar enabled October 7 invasion, Shin Bet reveals”:
“…policies carried out under Netanyahu that the agency flagged as problematic and as contributions to Hamas’s decision to invade were his facilitation of Qatari funding to Hamas…”
Between 2013 when he first became prime minister to present, continuously until present except for two years 2020 – 2022, Netanyahu funded Hamas with millions. Since 2018 the support for Hamas took the form of suitcases full of cash.
The Jerusalem Post reported in 2024:
“Netanyahu’s previous government [from 2009 to 2019 reportedly began transferring $30 million a month to the Gaza Strip in 2014.”
In December 2023 the New York Times wrote in “‘Buying Quiet’: Inside the Israeli Plan That Propped Up Hamas”:
“Just weeks before Hamas launched the deadly Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, the head of Mossad arrived in Doha, Qatar, for a meeting with Qatari officials.
For years, the Qatari government had been sending millions of dollars a month into the Gaza Strip — money that helped prop up the Hamas government there. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel not only tolerated those payments, he had encouraged them.”
Moreover, Netanyahu was warned by Israeli intelligence numerous times that the money was being used for terrorist operations.
In March 2025 The Times of Israel wrote:
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was warned at least twice before the Hamas onslaught of October 7, 2023, that the terror group’s military chief Muhammad Deif was appropriating funds provided by Qatar to Gaza with the premier’s approval, Hebrew media reported Tuesday.
According to near-identical reports by Channel 12 and the Kan public broadcaster, Netanyahu was warned in 2019 by then-Shin Bet chief Nadav Argaman, and again in 2020 by the IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate.”
Naftali Bennett, who was prime minister for a short time between 2020 to 2022, after which Netanyahu was again elected, told CNN:
“Why would we feed them cash to kill us?”
Flynn said in an interview:
“There was a decision made to have a security stand-down on the 7th of October for 7 hours on the southern zone….up against the fence line against the Gaza strip, and I’m telling you folks, that wasn’t done by happenstance and that’s not a coincidence. Somebody made that decision, don’t know if Netanyahu made it, or the Southern Zone commander who made it, but somebody made it…”
Flynn has stuck to his accusation that the attack had help from Israeli commanders. saying August 2025 that it was an “inside thing”:
“I’ve already heard from some of the [IDF] soldiers who were told to stand-down at the exact hours, so something bad happened and it was an inside thing….Something broke down and it wasn’t because of mistakes.“
Then in August, an Israeli soldier stepped forward to testify before the Knesset that his unit was given a “strange” order to cancel a key patrol along the barrier between Gaza and Israel where Hamas attackers entered, on the morning of the attack.
Sgt. Shalom Sheetrit said:
“We were playing on the phone [at 5:20 a.m.] and suddenly a strange message comes from my battalion commander…And what he says on the call is something like this: ‘I don’t know why, but an order was issued that there are no patrols at the fence until nine in the morning….”
At Sgt. Sheetrit’s testimony an audio of the commander giving the order was played.
The pretext for Israeli atrocities, including the coming ones if the world allows it, has always been Hamas. But now it has emerged that Netanhayu was and always has been one of Hamas’ most vital supporters, and that October 7 could not have happened without vital help from the Israeli high command.
In a shocking report in August 2025 the Guardian said that Israel’s own military is estimating that 83% of the over 53,000 Palestinians killed since October 7 are civilians.
In a clear warning to journalists who would report on what Israel is about to do, on August 10, 2025 Israel openly and apologetically slaughtered the entire Al Jazeera news crew in a drone attack on their tent in Gaza City. Israel makes a special point of targeting journalist who can witness what it is doing and has killed hundreds in recent years.
The population of Gaza has been systematically starved and even Donald Trump said “There is real starvation there.” But as shocking as the starvation is, also shocking is Netanyahu’s casual lying about it and tossing out simply “there is no starvation in Gaza” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary including from his own ally Trump.
The sum total of Israeli behavior and attitudes, caring not one whit about what the world thinks, leaves no room for doubt that its intentions as it prepares to invade Gaza with ground troops are genocidal. Seen in this light, weakening the population through starvation makes perfect sense.
During the Holocaust many Germans might have been excused for truly not knowing what was going on in the concentration camps. In Gaza all the world knows, it is acknowledged by Israel, and even bragged about. The only remaining question is, will the world stand by and watch the most open genocide in human history? As Israel arrays its forces, Germany announced on August 8 that that it has halted all arms exports to Israel.
