Man does it feel good to be an Eagles fan right now...

Is that the same Vick who fought dogs? If it is..well you sports fans need to look at yourself.

Bleh.

There are athletes (and actors, and musicians etc...) that have done far worse. Jason Kidd beat his wife. The reason Vick's crimes are judged worse than others is purely political.

He did his time and apologized. What more should be done to him in your mind?

I ignored him totally till this thread popped up. I will ignore him totally in the future. I have no clue who Jason Kidd is, nor do I wish to know. I assume the reason good folks judge Vick is the long history of the canine as a friend of man and particularly in America where it is viewed fondly as a member of the family and a faithful worker. Ergo, Vick is viewed as a psychopath on an ego trip by many. That is why I ignore him except when it comes up in the RPF and then I note how some folks worship at the altar of sports, the modern day bread and circuses, and excuse the players abhorrent behavior because he is playing sports. Hell, I wouldn't want this psychopath living next to me, yet he is on TV and fat mouthed broadcasters and pundits are blithering about his various abilities, which amount to chasing an inflated, elongated to a point ball around a field and running into each other. Highly impressive skill that can be translated to many human endeavors no doubt. Like dog fighting.

Well, for some people football is simply entertainment. It is not "bread and circus" for me, and I assume everyone else on this board who is knowledgable about how those in power screw us over. Can one damn sports thread be made with just sports talk? I've never heard one person excuse Vick's behavior, so I don't even know why you would bring that up... In your view all us RPFers who like football are worshiping at the altar of sports and unenlightened? Please... give me a break. You are posting in RPF. Who exactly are your comments directed towards?

Obviously you don't like football; we get it. Please don't derail a thread with your ignorant views on this subject. Oh, and your explanation of the game of football is pretty darn funny, but I feel sorry for you that you can not see the sophistication and skill involved in the sport.

Most don't realize how much strategy is involved in professional football.

Please, I'm sick of hearing this stuff. The man made mistakes, and has been bettering himself ever since. I know some of you are animal lovers, but he did not do the worst thing in the world. In fact, it is something that is, unfortunately, somewhat common in the areas Vick grew up in. Did you eat meat today? You need to go take a look at yourself. How could you kill a helpless pig/cow? Why is a dog's life so much more important than any other animal? And people act like the man was killing dogs by his own hand. He funded a dog fighting ring. Wow. Get over it. Besides, who the hell watches football for ethical enlightenment anyway?

Agreed.

And after all, it was just dogs. It's not a good thing to do, but put it in perspective...

Yep. It's a cultural thing in parts of the US. In the South in certain communities dogs are looked at differently.

Kind of like how a guy in Delhi might be shocked that we eat cheeseburgers.

And if it is so be it. I happen to like both bread and circuses.

I can be knowledgeable about world events and still kick back with a beer and enjoy some entertainment from time to time. I like my life and I like living it. I am knowledgeable about the world and want to change some things - doesn't mean I have to be depressed 24/7.

I'm from Philly, but I can't resist this joke:

Why do the Philadelphia Eagles eat their Chunky™ Soup out of the can?

Cuz everytime they get near a bowl, they choke

I think Bill Belichick is probably one of the best football minds in the history of the game. I wouldn't ever count the patriots out. He has a nack for taking on troubled players and turning their career around.... or at least salvaging what is left -Randy Moss anyone?- on top of that they buy low and sell high. They build their franchise SO well, it's like they're playing Madden and they know exactly when to buy/when to sell and so forth. It's really incredible.

Belichick definitely resurrected that franchise but they have not won a super bowl without Teddy Bruschi or video taping their opponent...

The Ravens are having a pretty quiet free agency. Hoping they can get in on the trade for Osi Umeniyora...and also get a good WR.

Also, I just bought preseason tickets on StubHub - Ravens at Eagles, August 11 :p

Yeah, it has been so frustrating watching the Eagles ever since Reid took over. I guess I can't complain, though. Reid always makes a good, competitive team and the seasons are fun. From a person that has barely missed a single Eagles game in about 14 years, I can say that most of the time we came up just short we simply did not have the talent to take us all the way. We got by with decent talent and good coaching all these years (but never great talent) and have a great win/loss record and a ton of playoff appearances to show for it. But ever since McNabb was traded and Reid had less to do with front office moves and more with coaching (which coincides closely in time--Reid always used to have a huge role in running the front office), the coaching and talent have been steadily improving--besides this year where we loaded up big time. I think we lost to the Super Bowl champs by 5 points IIRC... Let's see the Packers get an early lead on us with our new defense this time...

Our new GM and our organization's emphasis on getting rid of guys if they don't perform (no matter who they are i.e. Dawkins, McNabb) is going to put us in a spot where we have a good chance to win a few super bowls over the next 5 years. Trust me, this organization is being run completely different than it was under the McNabb/Reid era. I have high hopes for the birds over the next few seasons, especially if Vick continues to play well and grow as a QB (he needs to recognize blitzes better and still needs some work on getting the ball out quick).

I've been crossing my fingers the vikes pull ahead in the Malcom Floyd sweepstakes, doesn't look like Baltimore is going to get the deal done.

Yeah. Never understood the point in watching a bunch of stupid jocks chasing a ball around. A child's game played by grown men.
