Let's stop this fighting (one last plea)

Today, by all accounts, has not been the best in our movement. We've all said things that we may one day come to regret. I've certainly said things I regret, and for them I'm sorry to anyone I may have offended.

Fighting among ourselves serves no purpose whatsoever other than to distract us from working for candidates who support liberty.

Right now, I'm asking that we all acknowledge four things:

1) It's very easy to understand why one should be upset at Bob Barr for skipping today's press conference.

2) It's very easy to understand why Bob Barr could have felt slighted and skipped out on the press conference today.

3) When we say nasty things about a candidate (Barr, Baldwin, or whoever), we upset and alienate people we need to have on our side in order to reclaim liberty.

4) The nastier we get toward Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, Ralph Nader, or Cynthia McKinney, the nastier we start getting toward each other, and the less productive we ultimately are.

We've got four principles that FOUR (not three) candidates agreed with Ron Paul to promote in their campaigns. They're four great candidates who are all much better than Barack Obama and John McCain. Let's stop putting energy into denigrating any one of them, or into a campaign to stop one of them, and focus on supporting the one of our choice or a candidate in another race who truly inspires us (like B.J. Lawson). If we all do this, the net result will be very positive.

Our country was founded through violent revolt against an oppressive government. Bob Barr is a tyrannical clown, just look at his record(supports war on drugs, Iraq war, patriot act etc). We need to out the corrupt operatives like Barr who are trying to screw up the movement in the first place. Fu*k Bob Barr!

Bob Barr is some sort of media creation...I'm still trying to figure out how I allowed myself to know his name in the first place.

There is no such thing as a liberty lover who supports douschebag Bob Barr. He's just another aspiring tyrant!

This is exactly what we don't need. I gave a semester in college to work for the Ron Paul campaign as a grassroots activist in the Triangle in North Carolina. I gave my entire Christmas Break to work for the campaign in South Carolina. I think I've demonstrated plenty that I love liberty. I'm supporting Bob Barr.

The Republican Liberty Caucus, the libertarian wing of the Republican Party, gave Barr a lifetime "libertarian" rating. He was wrong on some issues (DOMA, drugs), but he's demonstrably moved in the right direction, having lobbied for the Marijuana Policy Project, called for the repeal of half of DOMA, and is campaigning for an end to the War in Iraq. He voted for the Patriot Act, but only after working to get sunset clauses inserted and, according to a former Paul staffer, voted for it to get on a Conference Committee so he could work to change the final version if it passed the Senate in a different form. Since he left Congress, he's worked hard to lobby for its repeal, arguably harder than any other candidate in the race.

I don't appreciate someone else saying that I can't be a supporter of liberty if I support a particular candidate, as if they are the authority over who can be considered a liberty lover and who can't be. It's an arrogant attitude to have, and it's one that, until today, I've had, and wrongly so. I've called out people who support Baldwin, who I think is on the wrong side on a number of issues. I was wrong to do so. I suppose I didn't realize until today how it feels Bob Barr had a decent record in Congress.

I couldn't have discredited you better myself. Thankyou

there is no fighting we all agree barr is a schmuck and full of bs, pretty plain and simple go back to your barr forums bs

I've been on this forum for longer than you have. I gave an entire semester of college and my winter break for Ron Paul's campaign. I just restarted the College Libertarians chapter at UNC, and I'm working for B.J. Lawson's Congressional Campaign. I think I've done plenty to demonstrate my commitment to this movement.

Don't believe me? Email Jeff Frazee, the National Youth Coordinator for Ron Paul 2008 and a current employee at the Campaign for Liberty, and ask him about a guy named Paige Michael-Shetley and what he did for Ron Paul's campaign. His email is [email protected].

Just because I think differently about a certain candidate than you do does not meant that I don't love liberty.

The more we attack each other, the less productive we are. I've done my fair share of attacking, and for it, I'm sorry. I'm extending my olive branch.

We're in this together. We may support different candidates, but we're in this together.

Considering I'm not a member of a Barr forum, I have no Barr forum to go to. I've also been a member of this forum almost as long as you have and longer than the Barr campaign has been around.

Please let us all stop fighting. It is at the point of absurd.

Vote for Baldwin, Barr, McKinney or Nader. Stay home. Just stay away from McCain and Obama.

It's what we all agreed to before today. What is wrong with it? I see no reason for any anti-McCain and anti-Obama Ron Paul supporters to fight here.

I love it when people think they are moderators or need to bring peace to this and that LOL

its politics and people should be mad, shit is messed up right now and sometimes "playing" nice is as productive as being 2 faced.

i'm this close to buying you a boo hoo towel.

Yes, it is. That, in combo with his little minions VERY ugly remarks on that blog have raised the ire of many. Righteous indignation is not a bad thing.

2) It's very easy to understand why Bob Barr could have felt slighted and skipped out on the press conference today.

NO. Barr is trying to win the highest office of the land. If, as your statement indicates, he behaved like a 5 year old who did not get her way, then he has no bidness running because he is unfit for the office. Period.

3) When we say nasty things about a candidate (Barr, Baldwin, or whoever), we upset and alienate people we need to have on our side in order to reclaim liberty.

Barr deserves every bit of what he's getting. Barr supporters should hold their heads in shame at the behavior of their "guy." They'll get over it and if they don't, then they were not part of the movement to reclaim liberty in the first place. They were nothing more than partisan HACKS and that is a huge part of the problem, which makes them a huge part of the problem.

4) The nastier we get toward Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, Ralph Nader, or Cynthia McKinney, the nastier we start getting toward each other, and the less productive we ultimately are.

I'm not seeing any nastiness towards anyone but that snake Barr. And as I've said, BARR DESERVES IT.

Please stop trying to silence the righteous indignation of Paul supporters.

Barr was never in this to spread the message. He is in it for political expediency.

anyone that says vote for barr will go ignore sorry , barr is a lying azzhole..... sorry im over this barr lovefest

The reason he may be upset is that he didn't get the exclusive endorsement of Dr. Paul. Considering that Bob is the Libertarian Party's nominee, that Dr. Paul is a member of the Libertarian Party in good standing, and that Dr. Paul has professed many time his libertarian principles, Barr probably figured that Dr. Paul would endorse the Libertarian candidate rather than issue a multi-candidate endorsement including three non-Libertarians. That's a reason he may be upset, and I think it's understandable, although I disagree with his actions.

I disagree with his actions. But somehow implying that members of the Libertarian Party are not a part of the movement to reclaim liberty doesn't help things, seeing as though the Libertarian Party has the most pro-liberty platform of any.

I'm guessing you haven't read the "I vow to never vote for Chuck Baldwin" thread. There's been a good bit of nastiness toward him, of which I have been a part and for which I apologize.

hey

we are not fighting you, im just telling you we all agree barr is done finished over with, if you disagree fine but we are not fighting, everyone pretty much agrees barr is a liar!!!!!

if barr was infront of me i would body slam his ass if i could!! no mercy for this liar yes BARR IS A FLATOUT LIAR!!!!

Like it or not, this move has splintered our movement. It's time to dig in our heels and start making good friends with Greens and socialists.

Ron Paul is a Republican. You may hate it, but there it is.

Libertarian principles are not limited to the Libertarian Party, any more than patriotism is associated with the Patriot Act. It is, after all, just a name. The content is what is important.

I disagree with his actions. But somehow implying that members of the Libertarian Party are not a part of the movement to reclaim liberty doesn't help things, seeing as though the Libertarian Party has the most pro-liberty platform of any.
This isn't about political parties. It is about principles and utilizing a winning strategy to reclaim our government and our country.

Bob Barr has shown his true colors. Frankly, I am shocked at his behavior. He is acting like a petulant child.
