Kansas Caucuses Thread

Lane County, KS has 2 votes for Ron Paul and 20 for Mitt Romney. Population is around 2000. This would be a good place to post-audit to see whether more than 2 people claimed to have voted for Paul.

One of the main themes that almost everyone said today is that "we have to all unite and support whoever wins the nomination." This came up over and over again, and I basically just kept quiet because I didn't want to get in a heated argument at a caucus. But, I did remind people that Bush wasn't much better when it comes to promoting limited government, as he doubled the size of the federal government and added 5 trillion dollars to the national debt. It seems crazy to me how so many people seem to think that all of our problems as a country actually started with Obama.

I still don't get how someone can be polling ~20% nationally and be getting 50%+ in these isolated states. I mean what exactly is Santorum's appeal in Kansas? Why can't Ron Paul, who's really only a couple points back nationally from Santorum, be getting these 50%+ blowouts in caucus states like Alaska?

Only 400 votes between Ron and Romney. Come on 2nd...

Edit: Where are the major universities in Kansas?

I've never been more discouraged about politics. I talk to many people about Dr. Paul's ideas. Some I convert and some I don't. So many young people like the ideas but will not vote. There certainly weren't many under 30 at my caucus but there were a lot at Lawrence last night!

Last night we overhead some young folks behind us talking. One was debating whether to go to the caucus but didn't know when or where his was. Also, he wasn't sure he wanted to take the time because he had some other things he wanted to do today. You can't win if your supporters won't make the effort to go vote.

Oh well, we soldier on!

It seems amazing to me that some people will take the time to go to one of Ron's campaign rallies, but they won't actually take the time to go to a caucus and vote for him. That's really just the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

I don't know how much to stress that if your real serious about ron paul, then u have to try to become a delegate with the campaign. You guys need to stop being discouraged. Seriously. Romney isnt getting 1,144 delegates on the first ballot. Become a delegate with the campaign whether your state is bounded or not

As a Kansan, it is his religious talk. The state is full of evangelicals. He says what they want to hear. They read a letter from him at my caucus today. He portrayed himself as a "warrior" fighting the battle. He even had a statement from someone comparing himself to George Washington! He invokes the Bible, God, Christian values, etc., etc. It's what they want to hear.

What's funny, I know some evangelicals that think Catholics go to hell; however, they support him.

It looks like Santorum by a landslide, but the delegates are all I'm interested in.

A "win" for us today in Kansas will be hunting for the counties where Ron got 2nd. Sigh.

It's the age factor too. At my caucus location, at SMS HS in Johnson County, there were many Paul supporters, however, they were all under 45. The place was packed with people over 60, and they were all for other candidates, with the exception of 1 guy I met. The young people just won't get out and vote. The enthusiasm and dedication is unmatched, but they need to vote.

Its likely to be Santorum 29 (assuming he wins all 4 CDs), Romney 4, Gingrich 4, Paul 3. The last statewide proportional delegate has been switching around, so Paul could get to 4. Everyone gets statewide delegates, as only Santorum is over 20%.
