Just how bad is the United Nations?

(Yes, this is another thread from me in this section asking a question. Bare with me here, lol).

So I was having this discussion with one of my friends the other day, and we somehow got to the topic of the United Nations (think it was because she was writing a paper on the UN botching in Rwanda) and I eventually starting talking about how bad the United Nations was as a whole, not just in that particular incident. She held the view that they're a necessary evil, and that leaving the United Nations would be "retarded." I then brought up how they erode our national sovereignty and that they have no really done anything that could be considered good. Looking back, I feel like I did a piss poor job arguing against the United Nations, seeing as it was a topic that I really wasn't familiar with and never gave much thought to outside of knowing that they're an awful organization that erodes national sovereignty.

If anyone could help educate me and help broaden my horizons on this topic, it would be great. Any articles, videos, books, etc that could help me here would be fantastic.

BTW, is it possible to form an argument against the UN without it sounding like (at least to the mostly politically ignorant) they're part of a global, one world government conspiracy? Not saying that it isn't true, but those who don't much would probably blow you off as a "conspiracy theorist" if you make it sounds like that?

The United Nations: On the Brink of Becoming a World Government

The UN is growing by leaps and bounds in its size and scope of operations, yet those who claim it’s becoming a global government are ridiculed. Who’s right?

Just make the basic point that the bigger the government and the less local it is, then the harder it is for people to have any way of keeping them from becoming corrupt. Also, it doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to make the observation that global dominance has been every tyrants wet-dream since the beginning of time. Maybe point out the cozy relationship that the UN has with the WTO as well, I dunno.

How bad is your town or city? How bad is your State? And what about the United States federal government? Now add yet another layer.

Yeah, and the galactic federation are an even bigger group of insufferable assholes. It's time that every organic cell secedes and declares its sovereignty.

Got into a big argument about this awhile ago. I felt the same way. I feel like we don't focus enough on the U.N. evil in the liberty movement. I mostly harped upon the U.N. largely responsible for at least the propaganda in getting us to go to Libya for that brutal war, how it has been ridiculously ineffective at the very best and at worst completely evil.

The UN and World Bank actually suppress third world locales as opposed to making those nations better. It's one gigantic web of exploitation.

You're right, we the Liberty Movement do need to talk about UN Agenda 21 more. It effects everyone in a negative manner. Literally.

It's a winner with conservatives too. Almost all of them hate the U.N. for their pro-gun control bullshit.

Sure do. I watched some documentary about how they ruined Jamaica by getting them to sign onto a ridiculous loan package when they were in a crisis, got them into debt and then basically colonized the whole country and ruined all of the locals productive business activity. There was footage of thousands of gallons of milk being poured down the drain in a country where many are impoverished because it was deemed illegal for whatever reason by the globalist crime bosses who took over. I think my Marxist teacher blamed this on capitalism using some absurd rationale, but I got to give her some credit for showing the documentary to her students.

I think we should play down the "one world government" line. Sure there are people who want all the power centralized in the UN. But they're a relative small group and they have what chance do they have of convincing government officials on a national level of turning over their power? What's more, the EU is falling about before our eyes, what chance does a one world government have.

Also, most people don't really know what the word "sovereignty" means

That being said here are a couple of criticism of the UN
-it is extremely corrupt and has very little accountability.
-they set policy and do not have anyone working there elected by the citizens
-it is a bureaucratcy of a few hundred people making decisions on behalf of 7 billion.
-US policy is controlled by strong men, dictators and Islamist

The UN might serve a legitimate function if it was a sort of arbitration organization for nations, and they only arbitrated if both nations agreed to arbitration, but it's gone WAY beyond that.

Well, hopefully more information pours in on the U.N.; I'll see what I can add.

For starters, it can be referred to as the dictator's club. For an organization proclaiming to make a better world, but then having members such as China, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, it's pretty pathetic.

One of the first things it did was create the state of Israel, so it's fairly responsible for the complete hell that is the Middle East. Of course, it has no good solution to the problem, it expects the United States to figure it out.

The Human Rights Council is a complete and utter joke. Countries who are abhorred sit on the council regularly, the censoring Chinese, oppressive Saudi Arabians (with women's burqas and such), oh, and don't forget the genocidal dictator of Sudan.

It's 100% dangerous to our national sovereignty. Especially with Obama in charge, who went to the UN instead of our Congress to start a war with Libya. Just another great excuse to trample upon our Constitution; which clearly states declarations of war are to come from Congress.

So, now is probably a good time to mention that we're wasting gobs of money on this nonsense. If I'm not mistaken, we pay something like 1/3 of the total UN budget.

Now, we're paying all this money for them, and then they want to criticize us. They come to our country to monitor OUR elections. Don't you have something better to do, like maybe take that genocidal maniac off the Human Rights Council? No, of course not. That would be silly. So, they have complete disregard for our State laws which clearly state observers can't come within however many feet of our elections (Texas was a bit peeved about the monitoring - they did concede). I'm sure they infringed somewhere though.

The UN is going to make an absolute mess out of our international treaties. We have Obama who signed the Small Arms treaty, full-well knowing that the US Congress would never ratify it, so who knows what the UN will claim our liability in that treaty as.

So, the real problem lies in their attempts to control the internet. I'd have to find an article to get the specifics on it; but yeah, they want to control the internet. Can't get much worse than that. Again, we're going to let countries who censor their citizens like China and Russia have a say about what webpages we, United States citizens, can see. What a mess that would be...internet innovation would be destroyed. Giving all that power to unelected bureaucrats that we can't throw out, let them try to regulate the internet, and then have all these major countries like China, Russia, and the U.S. have a veto power that will stop anything. Hopeless. (Note: someone may say it's hypocritical to say the internet can be controlled by the UN if the US has a blanket veto. Well, not really if we have a Democrat president like Obama who does things like ask permission from the UN to go to war.) Congress approval rating is at something like 12%, you really trust our leaders to not screw up as much as possible? Hope springs eternal I guess.

On the "fringe," the UN poses a very real monetary threat to the US. As the global reserve currency, we hold a critical hedge against inflation. In fact, our trade deficit has been one of our biggest blessings, exporting our inflation to other countries like China. Well, if the UN becomes the new reserve currency, all that inflation comes home, and then we're really in for it. And after all, it makes sense, doesn't it? An international organization be the international currency?

A couple more things. I imagine your friend is probably a Democrat who wants the legalization of marijuana. Well, the UN has a drug policy explicitly outlawing marijuana. In fact, the UN told Obama that he should punish both Colorado and Washington for legalizing it. Think they're infringing on our sovereignty yet?

They also criticized the Trayvon Martin incident. Some czar at the UN "demanded an investigation." Of course, this was days later with federal, state, and local investigations ongoing. Bunch of morons.

So, that's all I have at this hour. Sorry for the lack of specifics/sources; although I suppose it's better to do your own research.

Cheers

UN 'Agenda 21' Rosa Koire's videos are very good on this. She was a real estate valuer for the state of california for purposes of eminent domain and ten years ago she started noticing planning departments' drastically curtailing development and then luckily for you she started following the leads. It's world wide and it's coming for YOUR FRIEND,RIGHT NOW.

the un is full of socialists, muslims and other people with wildly different believe systems.

ask glenn beck, they want world domination. it's a CONSPIRACY.

Completely agree with statements in bold. You have to make sure that when discussing this that there is no way you come off as a conspiracy theorist. You have to take it slow with people, otherwise you risk having them write you off as a nutcase.
