What is the deal with these liberals? Sometimes arguing with them, I feel almost like their belief systems are a form of religion to them, and that any evidence shown to the contrary is heresy.

My theory is that some people's sense of identity is wrapped up in their beliefs or the things they support. That makes every discussion of topics related to their beliefs personal. They could lose their shit the same way over topics like Music or Sports or their choice brand of Smartphone.

Social Media actually makes this syndrome worse. People fill in their Facebook profile with their Likes regarding books, movies, politics, religion, or whatever and of course you have to add in a banner and avatar. It sort of causes a person to Brand themselves or reinforces an identity based things External to them. They have a weak Internal sense of themselves and maybe because of that a fragile Ego. My guess would be that such people mostly just live moment to moment and don't slow down for any careful introspection or contemplation.

The sad thing is that in terms of political movements, it's much easier to get people like this united behind a cause unlike Libertarians who live for debate even with each other.
