Congress does not have authority to set wages in states or subsidize w/ fed tax dollars . It is ludicrous. 11 or 13 or 15 FRNs buy different things in different places. In Butlerville In you can get a tenderloin and fries for 9.99 , no tax , in Baltimore you may get a soft sell crab sandwich and a beer for 25 FRNs

TIL the purpose of tariffs is not to protect national "sovereignty" or "independence" by increasing the production and/or market share of American producers relative to foreign producers, but rather to safeguard the production and/or profit margins of foreign producers by increasing the number of domestic plants owned by cronyist foreign rent-seekers.

And today I learned that not only do we need tariffs in order to induce foreigners to build and own more factories here, but we also need to import more foreigners to work in those factories - because that's how to "MAGA!!" ...
