Josh Hawley Proves That Republicans Still Don’t Understand Economics

They spent it on what they spent it on, and they're not going to unspend it to give it to us.

They did with the covid stuff. I got a big fat check for 20000 dollars signed by DJT himself.

Only time government has given me money. Thanks DJT

Duh.

Never. Back your bullshit up.

You're the one with such a limited imagination that you can't conceive of one single neither/nor scenario, here.
It's very clear.
Congress spent X amount of money, they took it from American taxpayers.
You don't want them to get any of it back

Trump took money from foreign companies, used most of it to reduce the deficit you claim to care about, and now they are going to take a small portion of it and return money to the American taxpayers that had their earnings extorted.
Trump is shifting taxation to tariffs and away from income tax, he's also reducing the deficit not increasing it.
You oppose this.

Congress spent X amount of money, they took it from American taxpayers.

It's not x amount of money until the spending bills stop popping up, moron. And not all of it came from taxpayers. Even people too poor to pay income tax are paying for bipartisan fiscal irresponsibility, every time they go to the grocery.

I most certainly do. But that's not what's happening here. What's happening here is, somebody wants to give voters freshly printed money now so people will complain less about inflation taking it all back (and more) later.

You could acknowledge that if it were a Democrat doing it. You know you could.

So he already has what he wants in his own state, he just wants to force it on the rest of us?

Sounds about right.
Yes. That is the point. States that have high minimum wages benefit (or at least experience seen benefits, albeit ones that may be countered by unseen costs) from forcing other states to have high minimum wages as well.

This is similar to the reasoning Trumpers have when they want to charge us tariffs to import goods from countries that have much cheaper labor than the US does, thanks in part to lax restrictions.

How so

Because high minimum wage states are competing against the low minimum wage states to attract businesses to hire their residents.

It's a variation of the reason minimum wage laws were devised in the first place, which was to prevent black workers from undercutting the labor costs of the more expensive white workers.

"Hey Gomer, wouldn't you like to see the amount you're paying in inflation taxes decrease by $1,000 per year? If you pay $1,000 more per year in tariffs, you can."

Heaven forbid Americans should get some of their income tax money back as we replace it with tariffs.

Tariffs are taxes.

They are imposed on importers, and are passed on to & paid for by Americans.

So this $600 "rebate" nonsense is just robbing Peter to pay Peter (which is a favorite pastime of pinko-commie politicians, who need to pretend they are "doing something" for "the people").

Wasn't being sarcastic

If politicians want to give me money, I have never had a problem with that

It's only when they try to take my money I have a problem

Same here.

If Josh & Co. send me a $600 check, I'll certainly take it.

The idiocy of U.S. economic policy isn't going to be fixed or reformed, so you might as well just hunker down and get whatever you can before all the chickens come home to roost and everything goes "kerflooey!".

By introducing legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, Republican Sen. Josh Hawley is demonstrating that while Republicans like to talk about free markets, they are statists and interventionists like their Democratic colleagues across the aisle.

Sure, because not only are tariffs less onerous and invasive, but they can be avoided by not buying the thing.

No, they are not, they are absorbed by the exporter and the distributor to keep market share.

Why do you make these blanket statements? It wouldn't be a lie, except you start out like an obnoxious brat by saying, no they are not. Obviously, sometimes they are.

How did you get so arrogant that you think "never say never" doesn't apply to you?

LOL

If foreign producers are going to "keep market share", then domestic producers' market share can't increase.

If domestic producers' market share can't increase, then they have no reason to produce more.

LMAO

I don't think that matters to him really. I think he just wants Trump to get more revenue so Israel can exterminate more brown people.

And yet the factories return here so they can have a higher profit margin.
