Iraqi protesters attack US embassy in Baghdad: American soldiers under siege

In 2011, both Fox News and the Washington Times noted that then-Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki brought his transportation minister, al-Amiri, to a meeting at the White House. The Times noted that the White House did not confirm his attendance, but the official was on Iraq’s listed members of its delegation.

That's a big "so what", AFAIC. He was an Iraqi govt official. The Obama admin did seem to be a little more Shia friendly than others who have aligned with the Wahabbi freaks. While Trump has been resident, that nitwit, Nikki Haley, welcomed members of the White Helmets to her office and they are Al Qaeda/Al Nusra aligned and all of their "rescues" have been staged false flags to frame Assad. That's how stupid Nikki Haley is. Even a modicum of homework would have revealed that information but, like Breitbart, she's a Zionist which means Sunni aligned.
It smells of a deepstate conspiracy to drag Trump into a war with Iran.
Especially since they have tried several times before.

Trump is sending more troops to protect the embassy and hopefully he will again avoid starting a war.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Amid renewed tensions in the Middle East, President Donald Trump on Tuesday blamed Iran for insurgents storming the U.S. Embassy in Iraq and threatened Tehran over the incident.
"Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities," Trump tweeted late in the day. "They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!"
He also said the U.S. embassy in Baghdad is safe and "has been for hours," and he thanked Iraqi leaders for their assistance.
Earlier in the day, Trump said Iran would be held "fully responsible" for violence targeting Americans.
"Iran killed an American contractor, wounding many," Trump said in his morning tweet. "We strongly responded, and always will. Now Iran is orchestrating an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Iraq."

I'm hoping the Iraqi govt is fully cognizant of Trump's Zionist sympathies and that they take him seriously. So far, it looks that way and with Hezbollah, as well, who didn't storm the embassy and go on a killing spree. Once things calm down, Iraq MUST demand a full US withdrawal.

He capitulates to the Zionists, be that US generals or Netanyahu. they may not bait into an attack on Iran but now more Marines are headed to Iraq and I'll bet he's going to get pressured to keep sending more to "secure American interests". The only way out of this is to GTFO, permanently, which Trump keeps failing to do. This is why I hope the Iraqis demand it.

If this gets hotter, my guess is Trump goes after Hezbollah in Gaza rather than Iran's mainland.

I agree with you in general.

And I think Trump has been trying to provoke Iraq (and other places) into telling us to leave.

Hopefully he will get beyond his need for some of his political allies and be able to just start pulling out of places, we are getting closer to leaving Afghanistan:

The Taliban's ruling council agreed Sunday to a temporary cease-fire in Afghanistan, providing a window in which a peace agreement with the United States can be signed, officials from the insurgent group said. They didn't say when it would begin.A cease-fire had been demanded by Washington before any peace agreement could be signed. A peace deal would allow the U.S. to bring home its troops from Afghanistan and end its 18-year military engagement there, America's longest.

The Taliban chief must approve the cease-fire decision but that was expected. The duration of the cease-fire was not specified but it was suggested it would last for 10 days. It was also not specified when the cease-fire would begin.
Four members of the Taliban negotiating team met for a week with the ruling council before they agreed on the brief cease-fire. The negotiating team returned Sunday to Qatar where the Taliban maintain their political office and where U.S. special peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has been holding peace talks with the religious militia since September, 2018.

Well, this time it's mostly true. Hezbollah are, essentially, Iranian proxies, though it looks like the have wide support in Iraq because Shia.

Yes, but none of this would have happened if we weren't there. Iran gets support there because they have mutual interests. We get support because we'll kill you if you don't.

The United States is sending about 750 soldiers to the Middle East after thousands of people stormed the compound of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Tuesday night.
Esper said President Donald Trump ordered the deployment, which will come from an infantry battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. More personnel are on standby to deploy if they're needed, he said.

"This deployment is an appropriate and precautionary action taken in response to increased threat levels against U.S. personnel and facilities, such as we witnessed in Baghdad today," Esper said in a statement. "The United States will protect our people and interests anywhere they are found around the world."

Of course, he couldn't just say 'fuck it, we're out', we need to protect our own territory. Cause' that would get him killed, or something.

Killed or impeached and removed.

Just look what happens every time he announces a withdrawal.

I'm no expert but have followed enough to be aware of all of these factions and they are a LOT of them. Hamas are aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood - basically a global, Muslim mafia - and while not aligned with Iran, have received aid from Iran due to their mutual enemy, Israel. The politics in that part of the world are so complicated, with lots of players who all have their own agendas. Plenty of "my enemy's enemy is my friend" going on. And, btw, Hamas was created by or with Israel's blessing as a foil to the old Palestinian Liberation Organization which was way less religiously oriented and more nationalist.

I remember the old PLO with Yassar Arafat.

SMH. Trump better get it together, sign something with the GoI and get us out of there.

When does Congress get back?? We need Rand out there now stopping the president from making a big mistake.

Of course, he couldn't just say '$#@! it, we're out', we need to protect our own territory. Cause' that would get him killed, or something.

If he knew how to frame the situation and articulate to the American public, he could turn it into a gold mine. All he has to do sign a deal, with GoI, to leave, say the US is not going to waste any more blood and treasure on protecting foreign countries and is going to secure our own and send them to the Mexican border. Right there he achieves great strides in keeping his campaign promises - out of foreign wars, protect the border and stimulate the economy. Talk about "winning". Instead he'll probably say some stupid shit about how Iraq owes us their oil.

Gotta do a cost/benefit analysis.

cost: Trump?
benefit:

Scratch that...cost too high

He's already facing that. Why not do what he ran on? Why not energize his base before the next election? Because in the end he's just another politician. And he's kissing the ring.
