Blowback is here...

Dozens of Iraqi Shia militia supporters have broken into the US embassy in Baghdad, storming the compound with gunshots and sirens ringing out, after US air strikes on Hezbollah that killed 25.

The US ambassador and other staff have been evacuated with a few protection staff, including US soldiers, remaining at the compound where thousands of violent demonstrators, some wearing militia uniforms, thronged outside the main gate on Tuesday.

Flames were seen rising from the compound where at least three US soldiers stood on the rooftop while tear gas filled the entrance to the building.

Thousands of mourners had held funerals for the fighters of the Iran-backed Kataeb Hezbollah earlier before rushing through the heavily fortified Green Zone, burning US flags as they headed towards the consulate in the Iraqi capital.

Footage showed a rapidly deteriorating scene as protesters set fire to barricades surrounding the consulate compound and hurling rocks.

Men were seen pressed up against the windows, taunting members of the remaining security detail and spraying pro-Hezbollah graffiti over the glass.

It comes after US fighter jets decimated three locations in Iraq on Sunday night, in retaliation for last week's killing of an American contractor in a rocket attack in the region.

The US attack - the largest targeting an Iraqi state-sanctioned militia in recent years - and the calls for retaliation represent a new escalation in the proxy war between the US and Iran playing out in the Middle East.

Security guards were seen retreating inside the embassy as protesters hurled water bottles and smashed security cameras outside the buildings.

They raised yellow Kataeb Hezbollah flags and taunted the embassy's security staff who remained behind the glass windows in the gates' reception area.

They sprayed graffiti on the wall and windows in red in support of the Kataeb Hezbollah militia: 'Closed in the name of the resistance.'

Hundreds of angry protesters, some in militia uniforms, set up tents outside the embassy.

As tempers rose, the mob set fire to three trailers used by security guards along the embassy wall.

No one was immediately reported hurt in the rampage and security staff had withdrawn to inside the embassy earlier, soon after protesters gathered outside.

On Sunday night, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had said the strikes send the message that the U.S. will not tolerate actions by Iran that jeopardize American lives.

The Iranian-backed Iraqi militia had vowed Monday to retaliate for the U.S. military strikes in Iraq and Syria that killed 25 of its fighters and wounded dozens.

The attack and vows for revenge raised concerns of new attacks that could threaten American interests in the region.

The U.S. attack outraged both the militias and the Iraqi government which said it will reconsider its relationship with the U.S.-led coalition - the first time it has said it will do so since an agreement was struck to keep some U.S. troops in the country.

Things like this are as predictable as the tides. Get all our troops out of the Middle East and we won't have this problem.

So glad Bush brought the Iraqis democracy and created a safe state for them insuring that they are American allies. /s

Hopefully situation gets contained soon and all staff remains safe.

Not all wars are started with deliberate plans. In the context of ongoing regional battles there, US should be careful that foreign countries are not playing a role to push US into another unecessary conflict as happened in case of Iraq war.
This congratulation message is not a positive sign looking at track record of such actors:

Israel’s Netanyahu Praises ‘Important’ US Strikes Against Iran-Backed Militia in Iraq and Syria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone with US Mike Pompeo on Monday, a day after American air strikes targeted several bases in Iraq and Syria belonging to a Tehran regime-backed group.
A statement published by Netanyahu’s office said the prime minister “commended” Pompeo on “the important US action against Iran and its proxies in the region.”
According to an Axios report, the strikes — which came in response to the killing of a US civilian contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base — were “welcomed enthusiastically” by the Israeli government.

Will there be a "kill them all" reaction from Republicans? (Trump's a crowd pleaser)

Now that Bibi will get another term, Israel is ready for the war.
Trump is intentionally pouring gas on the fire to start it off.

This is why they stole the election for Trump, to have the US attack Iran.

Apparently the ambassador is away anyway for holiday's so he is safe from the mob.

Trump should pull out of Iraq.
I know that he MSM,the Democrats & the Neocon Republicans will attack him but he should listen to himself.
We voted for Trump to end this wars!

Which was the whole purpose of pulling out of the Iran Deal.

Trump urges Iraqi PM to protect US personnel after protesters storm embassy

President Trump on Tuesday spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi about the safety of American personnel after demonstrators stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad.

Th White House said Trump and al-Mahdi of Iraq discussed "regional security issues" and that president "emphasized the need to protect United States personnel and facilities in Iraq."

Trump is in Florida spending the holidays at his Mar-a-Lago resort. He spent just under an hour at his golf club in West Palm Beach on Tuesday where he said he had a meeting on the Middle East and the military.

The call came hours after thousands of demonstrators and supporters of an Iran-backed militia stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad. Some chanted "Death to America" and set small fires inside the walls of the compound.

Iraqi security forces reportedly did not intervene to stop the demonstrators from advancing until a commander arrived and ordered them to.

The protests were triggered by U.S. airstrikes on Sunday against five Kata'ib Hezbollah targets in Iraq and Syria that killed at least 25 militia fighters. The airstrikes came in response to an attack that killed a U.S. contractor and wounded four U.S. service members.

The Trump administration blamed Kata'ib Hezbollah militia, which is backed by Iran, for the attack.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper said additional U.S. forces would be deployed to the facility in Baghdad to bolster security, and he called on Iraq to assist in the protection of embassy personnel.

The chaos at the embassy has renewed concerns among some U.S. lawmakers about the potential for conflict with Iran.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) tweeted that embassy personnel "deserve protection from the Iraqi host government and smart, strong national security strategy from U.S. leaders. Escalation and violence must end.”

The Trump administration has made confronting Tehran a cornerstone of its foreign policy and has hammered its leaders with sanctions over the past year.

The two countries have also been on the brink of conflict at times, including after Trump said in June he called off a military strike at the last moment after the U.S. accused Iran of shooting down an American drone.
