I am pissed off.

I don't think you can say for a fact that terroists are "political" criminals. Most terrorism results from religion more than political ideology. Regardless, country of origin IS a fact when a country is KNOWN for harbor/raising terrorists due to our irresponsible, damaging foreign policy. As unfair as visa denial on that basis is, I sincerely believe the impact it will have will be either negligible and/or short-lived. Ron Paul is not the type of person that would willingly deny an honest, sincere individual looking for opportunity to live in America unless circumstances drove him to do so. I, for one, believe that our circumstances are dire indeed.

I can tell you are upset James. I'll let this be my last response on the matter. I just urge you to focus on the positive aspects of our endeavor, rather than linger on matters of less importance than say...our near bankrupt economy, or the easeless waging of war in the middle east, or perhaps the continuing decline in education/health care/morality in the world?

Ron Paul isn't perfect, but is, above all, sincere in his words and deeds.

I agree, Paul is solid on the economy and the war issue. - That said racism is pretty high on the hierarcy of values for me. Thanks again for your comments though.

Srub Out Your Vaginas Liberals
That's hardly constructive.

Debate and opinion sharing amongst concerned forum members is preferred.

Why alienate a large segment of Ron Paul supporters?

Because there are liberals here who have no idea what they are voting for.

They should be voting for Kookinich.

james1844, I have to ask if you consider the present, 'War on Terrorism', a racist war? After all, the United States military is sent to another country to fight with people who are of another race. Does that make our present government racist?

Internationally no. Its mostly directed at Al-Qaeda, at least it was at first. Those guys should be stamped out. I accept the findings of the 9/11 report and believe that we are correct to be engaging in aggresive anti-terrorism activities. Plus, the feds have been pretty equal opportunity about it. We've attacked afghanistan, Iraq, and somalia.

I do believe that domestically, we have been overly agressive towards our Arab minorities, especially post 9/11.

For what its worth, every major riot in America for the past 40 years has been the result of racial tensions. - Think about the 93' riots in L.A. We need to be smarter about our policies in this regard, its hugely important.

Country or origin is closely correlated with race. if everyone from a particular country, Saudi Arabia* for example, is arab, then denying visa applicants from that country is racist in its practical application, because it affects only Arabs.

First of all, it doesn't totally cut off all student visas from the countries in question. It simply subjects them to closer scrutiny.

Secondly, Arabs from other countries not known to sponsor terrorism would still be entering the US.

Your assertion above is as specious as saying that just because the bill subjects Sudanese visas to closer scrutiny, that Ron Paul wants to cut out all immigration from Africa because he hates Black people.

You display a remarkable obsession with race for someone who is concerned about Dr. Paul living up to his ideas on collectivism. Try, if you can, to look past the PC hysterics and grasp the geopolitical implications of leveraging such a peaceful, diplomatic, and non-interventionist measure that provides incentive for certain governments and their citizens to stop aiding and abetting our enemies.

Does this mean you think the United States government is doing the right thing when they declare a 'War on Terrorism' and send troops to other countries to fight that war? If not, then how is the United States supposed to be aggressive in it's anti-terrorism activities?

I'll take your non-response as a yes acroso.

Takes the wind out of your sails a bit eh?

"Let me guess...

Your a Republican who voted for Bush.

Hell yes I voted for Bush over John Kerry.

I didn't like Bush, but he was the lessor of two evils and I'd do it again. We got to EXCELLENT supreme court justices out of Bush.

Ron Paul is my first choice

Duncan Hunter is my second.

Then Romney, Thompson, etc.

As long as it's not a Democrats, I'll be happy.

AND I LOVE PAUL'S NEW AD!

Racist?! Why the heck does anything that's perceived to affect "minorities" in a negative way automatically labeled "racist"? I firmly believe that the people who are always so quick to bring up race are the real racists. We don't want to bring in students from nations that HATE us. If a particular race is over-represented in that group, that's their problem, not ours. You don't invite enemies into your house, why invite them into our nation?

You can be damn sure that our of 100 students from Saudi Arabia, at least 1 will sympathise with Al Qaeda, and I'm probably being way conservative on the number. Why not bring in 100 students from Japan, El Salvador, or Hungary instead where the probability of any one of them participating in a terrorist attack on U.S soil is as close to 0% as you can get?

You people need to grow a spine and put the politically correct B.S aside. It was our idiotic immigration policies that helped Bin Ladin carry out his attack on 9/11 anyway. Why not stop it?

Ya, blanket denial based on nationality. I guess in that case a supporter like me has no business being here given that I come from a "terrorist" nation.

Again, it's not a blanket denial based on nationality. It is a closer scrutiny of student visa applications from certain countries.

Are you a citizen of the United states or visiting on a VISA?

I agree, the "racist label is thrown around way too casually, it`s out of control really. I`m not too impressed with those obsessed with it.

Are you a citizen of the United states or visiting on a VISA?

I got citizenship 2 years ago. I did go through the intense legal process of naturalization (trust me the paperwork is 5 binders worth).

And yes, I got off the phone with HQ. They meant precisely what they meant in that ad. I was pretty livid to say the least =(. Its not a call for more strict scrutiny, its a discriminatory blanket denial based on nationality. I guess HQ doesn't like supporters like us!
