How to Boost the 18-29 Youth Vote, Guaranteed

Ohio's early voting begins in four days on January 31. Ohio has an open primary and the deadline to register to vote is February 6.

Supporters in Ohio need to start actively canvassing on college campuses and make sure students who support Ron Paul are registered to vote. Don't go around yelling to everyone to register to vote. Make sure they are at least partially receptive to Ron Paul and then get them registered.

Find out where the early voting site is closest to the particular college. You can do so by contacting your county's Board of Elections here.

Anyone can start requesting absentee ballots now but beginning January 31, people can vote in person. Make sure beginning January 31, you have people willing to drive students to the early voting sites and for the students not willing to go vote in person, make them fill out application forms for absentee ballots.

I like the ideas here, however, we have specific language in our state Constitution prohibiting incentives of food and drink for votes. :-)

§ 55. [FREEDOM OF ELECTIONS; BRIBERY]

All elections, whether by the people or the Legislature, shall be free and voluntary: and any elector who shall receive any gift or reward for the elector's vote, in meat, drink, moneys or otherwise, shall forfeit the right to elect at that time, and suffer such other penalty as the law shall direct; and any person who shall directly or indirectly give, promise, or bestow, any such rewards to be elected, shall thereby be rendered incapable to serve for the ensuing year, and be subject to such further punishment as the Legislature shall direct.

But otherwise, this is an(other) interesting strategy. The VT voter database tells you the person's age; we know which registered voters are not living in Vermont, and could pick out which ones might not live in their town of registration (i.e., might be students). We have APO addresses in the Voter DB. I assume the military and the state of Vermont are working to get them early voting ballots, but we could target them with some pro-Ron Paul material. That would be rewarding, but the trickiest, because of the delay in mailing overseas. (That should have started a month ago, unfortunately.) We have 23 colleges in the state; I'm not sure about RP groups there, but there must be some.

Important question. According to one page I found (I didn't check the Vermont Statues directly),
"The [town] clerk must receive the ballot by the close of polls on election day in order to be counted."
So, it sounds like they will be included in the totals the night of March 6.

Well, speaking just about Vermont: Even if Ron Paul comes in first...we're "only" talking about 14 delegates to a majority winner.* It's 6 to 14 for a plurality winner, and fewer than 6 delegates up for grabs to the non-first-place-winners if no-one wins a majority. (According to http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P12/VT-R, which one can only give so much credence to, because it doesn't recognize that Ron Paul is on the ballot, and he is.) Plus, Paul needs to get at least 20% to get any delegates from VT, even if there's no majority winner.

* Three delegates of VT's total of 17 are uncommitted party leaders, who aren't generally sympathetic to Paul, as far as we know.

Gotta hope Gingrich stays in it until Super Tuesday and then drops out...but would the Gingrich delegates vote for Ron Paul over Romney?

PLUS...we can't go around with the actual form to vote on, only the form to request that form.

In Vermont, you can register, get the form, and vote all on the same day if you go in person to the clerk's between now and the 29th of February. You can do the latter two up until the day of the election.
 
I am NOT saying don't do it! I am saying

- I'm part of a not-very-large group in Vermont who ARE working on outreach
- I am going to recommend they take early voting request forms with them door-to-door
- We are stretched pretty thin as it is
- Are you willing to help us find the Ron Paul college students?
- Do you want me to send you some subset of the addresses of voters so you can send them a letter and the form?

Get more concrete. The info about it being "not huge* is to say why I think the official campaign is probably not doing anything like this. But I don't really know. I don't know if you do, either. So, enough exclamation points; more plans needed. Text for letters, college contacts, etc.
 
1) somehow get Romney to say he supports internet censorship (SOPA, ACTA)

2) somehow get Romney to say he supports a draft/national service
 
Early voting has begun in Arizona, Ohio and Vermont.

We need to get the youth to vote early in person and if that's not possible, at least get them to request absentee ballots.
 
Definitely offer young supporters personal assistance in personally voting. If you meet them door to door, or at a Paul rally, whatever the process is in your state, get them to the next stage of voting. If it's requesting absentee ballots, talk them into filling it out in front of you. If it's a trip to the town clerk, set up a follow-up time to pick them up and get them down to the office, and so on.
 
College campus, busy street corners, where restaurants and bars are, etc. If there are people that you get to know, offer to drive them to the caucus or polls, tell them you will treat them to lunch.

If you live in these states, take advantage of early voting because it has already begun!

Organize on college campuses, identify supporters, and take them to the polls the same day. If they don't want to go to the polls, get them to request an absentee ballot. That will increase the chance of them voting since they will have the option to go to the polls or fill out the absentee ballot they will get in the mail.

Ohio and Vermont are OPEN states! Look for anyone who supports Ron Paul.
