Hold on.... Uhh.... Yep. Yep I think... I think i got an Idea!!!

Awesome idea. If you get that image on the news you win...doesn't matter if they send someone to tear it up.

And how you choose to spend your money to support Ron Paul should not be up for debate.

Godspeed sir!

Wile i CANT care less about BLM I calculate that the image of burnt or dead plants will give off less of a positive emotion then the production and growth off living, beautiful things.
From your description viewers will be at a distance where they won't be able to make out the flowers themselves anyway. Yes there's always a chance of a warm hearted news story making us look good or one making us look bad, but neither has much effect on RP. Around here we put up ~40 massive RP banners, mostly on other people's property including highway overpasses. A few people were pissed at us but we got a lot of good compliments (and more importantly, people saying "you guys are everywhere...he must be really popular around here"). This time around we don't need name recognition, but we still need to look bigger than we are and get RP's message out there.

You could get a few thousand seeds of a different flower for under $50 easily. If you grew from seed rather than buying them, it would obviously be a lot cheaper and easier to repeat next year or if BLM rips everything out.

Hippies used to guerrilla grow flowers on BLM land and rarely got in trouble back in the 60s, but it might be different now. Start a chipin. I'll definitely donate if you do this!

I will be doing this and i like the seed idea. I bet that could work for a tenth of the cost. May have changed my mind.

It may also be much much cheaper if you just use non-toxic chalk or non-toxic dye of some sort.

I agree the best option may be planting seeds or bulbs rather than implanting entire plants! It would be really interesting to see the sign "growing" :)

Link to non-toxic grass paint:

For $1,000 you could buy about 40 gallons of grass paint, but I imagine you'd need even more than that for an entire hill! I'm not sure.

The seed idea may be the cheapest option.

I think this is a great idea. Yes you could donate your $1000 to the campaign, which would pay for one cross country flight for Ron and maybe a couple of staff members, or you could do some thing that would be near historical. Go for the flowers!
A few comments about some of the comments, I would not do a trial run with cardboard as putting cardboard up would be considered littering and might get you in trouble before you can start planting. If you somehow do get arrested you don't want it to be the second offense after getting busted for the cardboard trial.
I'm not sure about the soil, what grows where, etc, but if they will grow, planting rows of seeds, sunflower, wildflower, etc might be easier than planting tulip bulbs.
The flowers you are planting should be native to the region, and not on any 'invasive species' list, otherwise you could be breaking a more severe law than simple trespass.
I'm not sure what you are planning would be even be illegal, and I've certainly never heard of anyone arrested for planting flowers on public lands (cannabis excepted of course) and if you do somehow get arrested for it, just start a chip in to cover your fines and I'm pretty sure we'll take care of you.
Good luck and keep us informed on your progress!

Carehn,

I think this is a phenomenal idea. Could you post a photo of this hill so we can get a better idea of what to expect?
If you start up a chip-in, I'd definitely give some! Just gotta show people you're serious, and the cash will flow in for sure.

I almost prefer donating to grassroots efforts like these than to the Campaign.

Also, if the flowers are going to be half a football field big, how on earth are you going to pull this off in one night on your own?

Uh... we could do this all across the country. Ron Paul flower signs popping up all over the country in the spring would be huge.

Edit: Meetup groups would need to be mobilized so as to plant a sign in their locality.

Anyone have any ideas for an official campaign plant? Tulips would take years to flower from seed and the bulbs would be costly.

I was thinking a peace lily might work.

I don't think it matters, but I do think they should all be flowers due to what they symbolize. Different types will be better for different regions.

Did you try Google street view?

edit: just checked and all the interstates in SE Idaho have street view imaging. Maybe give us a location?

Sounds lovely, but do the tulip flowers have a short life? Will the sign be visible for more than a few weeks?

I considered doing something similar to this. I live in Florida and the bermuda grass goes dormant in the winter. It'd be very easy to just overseed the words "Ron Paul 2012" in rye grass (also, much more difficult to get rid of vs. tulips).

I live in a very hilly treeless aria of Idaho and you can plainly see the side of this one hill from miles away in almost all directions. Im looking to make the worlds biggest Ron Paul 2012 sign in all of history. Possibly the worlds biggest sign EVER.

This fall i plan to spend about 1000 bucks on tulips and graph out ginormis letters with string (so as to do this shit right) and bike or drive up on this hill and plant every one of these tulips as to say RON PAUL 2012...

Then like the grinch i will so sneekaly do this at night and so stelthaly cover my tracks (with a rake shit head) so as no one will be the wiser till spring...

I know Tulips will make it on this hill and they will stand out like a giant ron paul sign against that dead gray brown dirt of the high dessert.

The land is owned by the government so i would not be stepping on anyones rights though it would be a savage crime and burn against the man.

This can be done boys. And if i do it i plan to do it so epic like... It may take me all night so i will need the weekend and the beer. Could shape up to be a fun night this fall.

Thoughts, comments?

should do this on a night right before a rain as to help the flowers and cover tracks.

You can go to Lybia or one of those Islamic countries where they have all these revolutions, and if they start shooting people, stack the dead corpses so they'd read ROn Paul 2012.

Smearing feces on stall walls saying Ron Paul 2012 will probably convert a few folk.

So, planes will fly over it, then rush off to go tell a reporter, instead of being like "huh, well how about that" and going on with their day?

And remember, the Ron Paul blimp made the news, it just didn't do anything besides that.

If it was me i'd have a buddy (or even a few) contact the local media.

Overall, good idea.

If you can get this thing rolling, and it seems doable, send me a tell. I can give a small donation. :)

I have done much worse then this as far as morality is concerned and if they get me and I have to go down over Flowers that will be just awesome in my book.

A tip of the hat to your spirit. There is power of a certain kind in flowers.
