Grassroots TV ads for Iowa - It's on

Would if be cheesey to create an ad with Bachmann calling Ron the master of persistence? And using clips of last debate where Pawlenty says he agrees with Ron (I forget what issue) and just mix in other clips of media like Matthews saying "you could win this thing". It seems like it would knock off the not electable label.

I've always liked the idea of putting an ad together of his opponents agreeing with him.

An infomercial! That's an interesting idea.

I think the infomercial thing has been proven to work. During the last cycle the campaign ran a 30 minute show... primarily focusing on RPs stance on right-to-life... a big seller in the Iowa market. The spot ran ONCE... and was poorly produced... but he went from 4% to 11% in the Iowa polls (real media polls, not online) almost overnight... I think there was a three day gap between the polls and the Infomercial running between those polls. I'm doing this off the top of my head so not all the details may be 100% accurate... but they are pretty close (it may have been 4 days between the polls).

Anyway... the point is that stuff worked. An infomercial could probably work again... but that's a lot of material to put together. If we used the same message, using the normal spot placement type campaign, we may see equal or much better results. Having it run only once would have played to a limited audience... I think multiple spots would reach a broader audience and get better results.

I think the statement of faith idea is good... but it does need to be shortened. I have been trying to put together a print piece and the idea might be converted to reach the target audience. The picture I was trying to find was of RP holding a very young child or infant. The header was to be "Dr. Ron Paul knows what every Mother knows..." with the message continuing on the back side "that life begins at conception".

I think it would be possible to combine the abortion and faith issues into a single, short spot. Push the abortion pitch on an emotional level (showing DOCTOR Ron Paul with a child) and address mothers specifically. Then, have the voice over that excerpts short, to the point segments from his statement of faith. It could be short... make the point... and touch viewers on an emotional level.

fyi... here is the type of image:

Agreed! Showing that Dr. Paul is the most pro life candidate, will REALLy bring in the votes.

Faith and pro-life are good for Iowa, but 30 mins is a lot to fill and most people are not single issue voters. At a minimum, the economy, foreign policy, saving social security and health care should also be on that menu.

Unemployment is twice as high for those who've served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think a commcerical about this would play well.

It's worse for the teen's through 29 age range....

Think extended retirement age... as well as a sucky economy....

I would suggest talking about his integrity. He has been called the most honest man in Washington. Talk about giving back unused budget money. Talk about his predictions for economy. Talk about how he has never done an abortion and has introduced pro-life legislature. End on how he speaks the truth and does what he says.

Integrity is evidence of his faith--many claim to be Christians but none have integrity to match like Dr. Paul.

Picture of RP with Reagan will be great.

I agree and think that kind of linkage would be to our advantage. I created a postcard in that vein [photo by Gage Skidmore] but it has not generated any interest yet. Anyway, I think some linkage would be a good thing... the other candidates are trying evoke Reagan... RRs endorsement of RP trumps what they have... and Reagan is considered godlike in the eyes of many Republicans (the audience we need to reach).

Generally, I like the card - but what is with the grainyness on RR? kind of makes him look like he has leprosy on his hand or something... wouldn't a cleaner pic be better?

Hey, I know we do not want to focus on the young vote but probably this projects will sprout more than one clip. So why not have a funny over energetic video? Perhaps bit like the concept of those 'popular' youtube channels that skip the breathing part. That might kinda stand out between all the other political nicy feeling ads and rather same old same old type of videos.

I was thinking along the lines of:

Narrator: 'Hi there!, you probably think you know what those Ron Paul supporters all get so worked up about.'
Narrator: 'You probably think it's because he's the only guy serious about ending the wars"
Clip plays: Ron Paul:'Let's end this wars and come home' with some cheers
Narrator: 'Or perhaps because he predicted the housing bubble'
Clip plays: Again one sentence of Ron Paul about the housing bubble.
Narrator: 'Aaaand actually predicted the whole economic fiasco up till now'
Clip plays: Again one sentence of Ron Paul warning about the recession.
Narrator: 'But that's not true'
Narrator: 'No no no no no, it's because there's a slimmer of hope that we could see him sitting in the oval office with these badass pants.'

I say use this idea, low cost, effective, and political persuasion neutral:

This approach is much better than the schmaltz of the first Reagan clip. Folks won't use the opportunity to hit up the fridge or go to the bathroom after the first five seconds. They are in TV mode and the above video style is a compelling and dramatic mystery that needs solving by following the image sequences. Same paradigm as why CSI and such ilk are popular amongst couch potatoes. Further it suggests they do their own research starting with google search phrases and the sequence one may do it in to gain understanding. It can be applied to any number of scenarios that are issues and sub-issues of the RP platform.

And that white belt
And RR was 6'1"... but RP looks taller than RR.
please tell me RP wasn't wearing platform shoes too ;)

Of course... it was the 70s

He must have been standing on a step - I'm 6'0" and have stood next to him - he's (RP) 5'6"-5'8" max...

Trying to wrap my mind around RP in platform shoes.... Just does not work!

[EDIT] just did a search, and while non-authoritative, ppl are saying he's between 6'0" and 6'1". I don't remember him being that tall.
