FaceBook to stifile political activism

You completely miss the point of Facebook facial recognition and why the spy networks exist. It is a map of your entire circle of friends, acquaintances , and family. Using government spy networks to organize protests is not a very smart thing to continue as it makes it easier for them to infiltrate, sabotage, and arrest protestors .

Most of my network, are mainstream GOPers. A good chunk of the rest are random Evony and Mafia Wars people from "addme" networks to clutter the target zone. Good luck getting any useful networking data from my friends list. ;)

I regularly practice misdirection in the "small places" that intelligence orgs consider critical organizers.

Data mining software exists.

Nothing in that headline shows how Facebook is "stifling" them. He just shows that FB employees donated money to Obama. Whatever.

no. people need to stop using Facebook and Google who intend to promote liberty. Those are 2 of the biggest spy networks in existence.

Or use them anonymously.

Facebook is also going to have "photo recognition" technology soon.

^This. It is truly amazing that people do not see this and continue to provide the government through Facebook all their connections. I remember when the site was first starting out and people were laughing on internet forums saying who the hell is going to use after round of funding from the CIA's venture capitalist arm.

They accomplished what authoritarian governments and dictators throughout history have dreamed of but have never been able to accomplish until now. People are fooling themselves to think it will never happen here. Think again.

Well, we could all try to get Ron Paul elected by incinerating our telephones, crushing our mailboxes, killing our internet and moving to a desert island.

Have you ever heard of using telephones? email and actual meeting up to discuss protest plans? Sorry but I don't agree with broadcasting "End the Fed" protests allover Facebook and I don't intend for such participation in those protests to be permanently documented on Facebook either with my face and name and connections.

People could use Facebook anonymously as people have used internet forums for years not using their real names. They then could access Facebook through proxies which would not stop anyone from spreading the message.

No surprise to hear a comment like that coming from a government representative. People could use Facebook anonymously as people have used internet forums for years not using their real names and then access them Facebook through proxies which would not stop anyone from spreading the message.
Facebook actually allows proxies? That I am aware of Google will ask for verification every other page if you use a proxy..I would think Facebook doesn't permit proxies or would somehow freeze the account.

Indeed so, and that is a good idea. Facebook still allows pseudonyms, Google+ is the one with that nasty "real names policy," which I believe stifles open debate.

ETA -- I didn't catch where you said "use anonymously" in the prior post. My response was directed at the other idea of "don't use, ever" which you did not say.

Then don't use them. The Internet is our primary advantage over the status quo establishment. Cutting your own vocal cords to spite your government is worse than cutting off your own nose to spite your face. Being careful is a good thing. Paranoia is counterproductive.

You obviously didn't read my earlier comments.

You did not see it in the last post and I did not post it prior to that but thought I did. I corrected it later but by then it was too late.

Intelligence agencies and services in 4000 years of continuous operations have found no better cryptology than ciphers. Simple ciphers are often passed in the clear. Cat means helicopter, crocodile means jet, fruitcake means bridge, whatever. All you have to do is practice the same opsec you do in real life, and treat social networks as "in the clear."

If you are an activist Ron Paul supporter, you are already on the list, sorry to tell you. If you post to RonPaulForums, you are already on the list. I know it comes as a shock.

Intelligence analysts and operatives accept certain risks as the cost of doing business. Opsec and Commsec practices can mitigate those risks, but failing to take the risks will not accomplish the mission, and getting paralyzed from "risk assessment overload" in the middle of an op will get you killed.

Facebook and G+ is more about recognizing the risks and planning for risk mitigation. These are tools that we must take advantage of if we are to restore the Republic.

I, for one, and willing to take that risk.

I use it through various business VPN's when traveling and never had a problem. Regardless there are other methods of accessing Facebook, without using your real identity nor providing your entire extended family and friends to them.
