Extremely extremely dissappointed

All of this kinda makes me sad. I realize that our nation has been through some tough times lately, and that the rule of law, of the constitution, must be restored. It is, however, one of the priceless tenets of our founders that the borders remain open to immigrants. A closed, intolerant border system will diminish the strength of our nation.

I would hope that as the nation begins to heal from the turmoil, and sound fiscal and international policy are once again apparent that this great land can once again return to the acceptance of the tired and poor huddled masses waiting for a chance at Liberty, Prosperity, and Peace.

We will still have immigration...

YES! TOTALLY!

However, we need to make sure who wants to come into this country is who they say that they are.

(Clearly I don't think that this statement = blanket denial)

I am a Pakistani who has recently gotten citizenship to USA. I graduated from UWashington this year and have gotten through the long, thorough legal process of immigration. I have also campaigned on behalf of a candidate whom I felt represented most in what I believed in, and Ron Paul (by virtue of extensive research) was easily the most appealing.

Until now.

VERY shocked.
Pray tell who else would you vote for?, This not a policy set by the president but congress, so its debatable.

.

Pakistan is not on the list of terrorist state - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Sponsors_of_Terrorism

Wasn't he speaking about Saudi Arabia? Some people mentioned that earlier and I know he has been VERY critical of the Saudi's for the coddling our govt. does with them and the whole 911 thing where Saudi's were involved. One thing about Paul, at least he can spot the correct country. No one else has the guts to call out the Saudi's. Having said that, Being able to come over here as a foreigner and go to school is not a "right".

Ron Paul on October 15 said:
Common sense tells us that we should not currently be admitting aliens from nations that sponsor or harbor terrorists. Remember, only U.S. citizens have constitutional rights; non-citizens are in the country at the discretion of the State department. While we should generally welcome people from around the world whenever possible, we cannot allow potential enemies or terrorists to enter the country now under any circumstances. My legislation would restrict immigration, including the granting of student visas, by individuals from nations listed as terrorist threats by the State department.

Sorry if this was already posted here. Has RP changed his position since then?

This forum isn't for debating the merit's of Dr. Paul's candidacy, it's for getting him elected. If you want to criticize the good doctor take your trolling ass over to LGF or the DailyKos.

The moderation on here is LOUSY.

err ...... know what a police state means?

srmpass98, it is nothing personal. Even if a 'blanket' restriction on visa is placed, i think it is only fair and the prerogative of the Congress and the State Dept.
US is far far more accepting of immigrants than any other country. That so many of the Americans here are upset at all is an awesome indication of the goodness of the people.
Let's be brutally honest. How many other nations are as welcoming of immigrants as US? Compare to any country ..... Pakistan, China, India, Australia, UAE, UK, France, Spain, Sweden, etc included? And tolerant of opposing views? Personally, I think a debate such as this couldn't even take place where I'm from.
Considering that this terrorism thing is causing a decline in the civil rights of Americans, what choice does Dr. Paul or any congressman have? Their first priority is to make sure Americans' rights are not violated or hampered. If that means issuing blanket restrictions, so fucking be it.

Some facts are sorely needed here, if merely from Wikipedia.

The founders were hardly "tolerant." The original immigration law, the Naturalization Act of 1790, allowed only "free white persons" of "good moral character," and imposed further requirements. The Naturalization Act of 1795, which succeeded it, was stricter.

You said "blanket" denials so many times, yet its clear this proposal does not deny student visas to all and would not affect Pakistan, so it does not impact you directly.

What is your intent with this language and using the word blanket?

I think this approach is a reasonable alternative to regime change.

Without freedom none of this other stuff matters.

People who think their feelings are more important than freedom are not thinking, especially the ones who will go support another candidate who will continue to take away their freedom and continue to wage unconstitutional wars till the country is completely bankrupt and our children and grand children are living in a hell hole because we didn't like to get our feelings hurt.

Dr Paul has put everything on the line to help us regain our freedom but he's not perfect but then again neither is anyone else here.

Half the population is still totally brainwashed and believes there is a boogie man behind every bush. Their concerns have to be addressed and so one line in an ad aimed at the rest of the country has the forum going off the deep end.

We have deadlines to meet, some have already almost been missed. Do we want a free country where we will have the opportunity to change things or do we want a PC police state with all of the young people drafted to fight enless wars?

I don't think these boards are a place to organize winning an election anymore but have become just another political board to fight amongst the members.

I think I will spend less time here for a while and get some work done by myself, It seems like every good idea or positive thread is buried by negativity and whining and it takes more energy to be negative than it does to go out and get things done.

I am serious about doing the best I can to make sure my children and grand children will not be left with a huge debt and no freedom.

We will get the government we choose.

I do not agree with Ron Paul on every issue, indeed I am 180 degrees on abortion - I'm old enough to have sterile friends thanks to coat-hanger abortions. However, we have to select the BEST candidate for the ENTIRE job of President. Which candidate will you turn to next? Every person who supports Ron Paul has proven they are a patriot because we know we will have to sacrifice something personally for the overall good of the nation. The student visa program is the very one that the 9-11 terrorists exploited. Once Ron Paul restores America to a nation worthy of honor and respect, foriegners will be less likely to want to terrorize us, and we will be able to let students back in. Additionally, exporting our knowledge in these precarious times is questionable.

Ron Paul

Well it would be nice if Paul won, but who cares as long as the Republican wins right?

I dont care one bit about the Republican party...or any other party for that matter.

Its the person and the issues for me.

There is a video out there on the net where a consulate official who was working for the US and was routinely denying certain shady characters from Saudi Arabia visas was continually overruled by the CIA ... 15 hijackers supposedly from there. Looking for it ....

Am I led to believe that by virtue of my nationality that I would effectively be declined any valid visa? Am I led to believe that the many folks I've judiciously converted to Ron Paul are effectively part of a "terrorist nation" and as a consequence have no business being here? Am I led to believe that despite the many similarities in political ideology and philosophy, that my views are inherently "dangerous" by virtue of my ethnicity and my background?

I have no problem with strict scrutiny. However, the campaign HQ have confirmed the details of the ad which in my humble opinion is outrageous. Many people seek refuge in the promise and future of the opportunity to study and live in USA (LEGALLY I MIGHT ADD). To deny them this right on the basis of their nationality is a profound oversight and hugely contradictory to his overall foreign policy.

This new development has been a complete shock for a lot of people here in Seattle. I feel very disheartened given the time, money and effort spent for the candidate I felt had the pulse of the American nation.

VERY shocked.

It sounds like you are already a traitor to the country AND the Ron Paul campaign. You said you are a Pakistani that has gotten US citizenship. The USA and Pakistan are two different countries. Which one do you belong to?

Wow - that is low. Lot's of people have dual citizenship. I can totally see how someone's entire nation of origin being labelled a terrorist nation is upsetting, especially when coming from someone you look up to. I sincerely hope you'd take back that traitor accusation - it's the same bs as naming the Patriot Act the Patriot Act.

That said, the ad is a necessary evil and will work wonders for the our cause so I am happy with it.
