Credit Card Bill Of Rights?

Retarded.

A credit card agreement is supposed to be a contract, but in recent years cardholders have lost the ability to say no to unfair interest rate hikes and fees

No, no they didn't. You can always stop using the card and never agree to use it in the first place if you don't agree with the terms. If they change it and you don' t like it, cancel the card and pay off the debt.

This will almost certainly backfire and make the problem far worse than it already is like most government intervention. No law can make up for a consumer's lack of intelligence and common sense.

the banks are already collapsing under the weight of their own greed.
People have stopped paying off their usurious interest rates and have taken matters into their own hands.
No new laws needed.

most credit card contracts state that interest rates may vary. if you dont agree with that, then dont sign up for a credit card.

How about this one: "You have the right not to be dumb enough to sign up for a bad deal?"

The government doesn't need to run credit card companies.

What about the fact that Credit Cards are now the De-Facto currency of the nation?

that's people's choice--THEY made the choice to use their credit cards for everything and they chose to go into debt--no one stood their and twisted their arm saying "you have to use a credit card"....I certainly don't see any stores that are doing it either.

that said, you have to address the reason why credit is so rampant...and it's not because of the companies...it's because of the Federal Reserve and it's inflationary and easy credit policies.

This is the Fed's fault for creating a moral hazard, to a certain degree....but to a much larger degree it's consumer's fault for being so stupid and not managing their own finances properly.

How about "Cash is still legal tender?" and "We shouldn't protect people from being idiots?"

Cash is legal tender only for debts. A lot of stores won't even let you buy things without credit cards. Apple and the iPhone is a example; they won't let you buy a iPhone with cash.

I mean really... your credibility is shot maji. Every topic you create from here on out, is going to get blown to pieces...

Keep it up :D

1) Thou shalt not make dumb ass threads...

Oh wait, sorry. I read the thread title wrong. I thought it said, "Ron Paul Forum 10 Commandments."

They have to take cash, legal tender laws say so. That's why legal tender laws are retarded.

And is it possible to get another cell phone/PDA from someone other than Apple? This whole subject makes me wonder if all those Central Park muggings in the seventies weren't a put-up job. Not ususally one to make a conspiracy out of everything, but damn. Just damn. And the funny thing is identity theft is liable to get anyone these days, whether you hang around New York City's Central Park or not.

Maji, you're the kind of person who is going to help them regulate and tax garage sales. Do you do illegal drugs? If so, please put those on your credit card. Hopefully, they won't let you spam us from supermax.
