Just wondering what Country(other than the USA) you'd want to live in? and what reasons?

I dunno if this is the right forum for this, as others didn't seem to fit, so please move if this is the wrong forum.

Russia for the women and culture, Mexico for the lack of government...probably others I can' think of right off. I'm more concerned with a decent setting and people than a country. Nationalism is highly irrational.

Yeah, I feel the same way about Nationalism. I was just wondering what Countries people would prefer for political reasons, quality of life, freedoms, etc...

Thiland... They're mostly Buddhists. Maybe Australia or New Zealand. Chile is nice too. All depends what goes down where when SHTF, really.

One of my favorite books is The Charm School by Nelson DeMille.

It's one of those books where you read the first chapter and you don't want to put it down - it's that exciting and dangerous. It's almost like the author has you as his sidekick as he writes the story, I dunno, I can't explain it.

Anyhow, if there is such places (lol) I want to go to that Mrs. Ivanova's Charm School, the Rossiya Hotel, Yablonya, Borodino and of course the Antique Shop in Arbat Moscow. Maybe hangout in Mozhaisk for a while. LOL

Seriously, if those places are real and there was a travel tour based on that mystery book - I'd book it.

As bad as we have it here I still think we have it better than a whole lot of the world. I know its not for your thread but I'll take my chances with the boys in blue, D's & R's and crappy curency over the same or worse elsewhere.

For some reason, I've always thought Uruguay. It could be that I've always wanted to try a chivito.

Costa Rica, Mexico, Argentina, Chile...maybe Iceland, Switzerland, Netherlands...Don't know enough about Africa. Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand.

I like governments that don't bomb brown people and let you ingest whatever you want without throwing you in a cage. The less developed the police state the better.

Canada. Not because of their "freedom", they have none, but because it so vast and they have so few law enforcement officers they can't keep track of you as well as the goons in the USA can.

Perhaps Belize.

or,

Jamaica.

The whole British rule thing is bothersome though.

i've been to Jamaica a couple of times, from what I heard/have seen the crime is incredibly bad in the populated areas. The island is beautiful, I wouldn't want to live there though... there are quite a few other islands where the people are MUCH more hospitable and less inclined to violence. Dominica, Aruba, Bonaire, etc would be much higher on my list personally.

I agree. I travel around the world and I still think we have it better than most. Africa is corrupt, poor and full of disease. Europe is falling apart, kidnapping is the national past time in South America and Antarctica is just too cold. A failing Europe will bring down the stronger countries of Switzerland, Germany, Norway and Belgium. That leaves us with Central America, North America and Asia. Can't say Central America would be much different than South America, North America is us, Mexico and Canada. Mexico is similar to South America. I have lived in Canada and it is cold, expensive, health care is lacking and it is simply hard to get ahead. That leaves Asia. If I had to pick a place there, I guess it would be Hong Kong as they have a first world living standard but still have a strong manufacturing base.

I love Peter Schiff but this idea that we should all move to a third world country yesterday is not appealing to me. Nor is moving back to Canada and I don't know why he seems to love Canada so much.

Hong Kong first choice, Singapore 2nd choice.

HK business wise is pro business more laissez faire. Super easy to open a business, OPEN PORT no import/export tax, no five zillion regulations for doing business. They encourage businesses to setup and want them to thrive, very friendly to small business (how the USA was many years ago). Police are not ROIDED up, they are regular folks. There are no dog shootings, pepper spraying people if they don't listen, tackling old ladies or anyone they feel like. Everyone pretty much let's everyone be their own and do their own thing. Crime rates are super low.

Sure HK is part of China, but HK has it's own rules and isn't in the communist domain, u need a Visa to get into China, there's immigration and everything, it's going into a separate country.

At least you know when you're in HK you're not under some FALSE pretense that you are in the land of the free and protected by the constitution. I feel safer and more free in HK vs in USA.

Only bad thing about HK is the pollution, but that's negative side of a government taking a backseat to everything.

There's some corruption at the top, but it's pretty high up there, regular folks are not adversely affected much.

Besides that there is so much nature. Amazing parks, mountains, tons of hiking, beaches, gorgeous islands to explore. You can be in a beautiful hiking trail surrounded by nothing but quiet greenery and trees overlooking a bright blue reservoir with fish and turtles, and 15 minutes later you can be in the heart of the city that's more alive then New York Times Square. Every cuisine is available, whether, Asian, American, or any kind of European. They have the European PUB crawls, sports bars, and tons of basketball courts and other recreational facilities.

You get the comforts and pleasures of both the east and the west. Very few places have that perfect blend of east and west.

HK and Singapore are some of the safest cities in the WORLD.

Singapore PORT is also free, also a place where they WANT people to come so they provide incentives with low taxes and such. Clean, pristine, beautiful, big metropolitan, but still a quaint homley feel to it. It's the melting pot of Asia, pretty much every asian group is represented in Singapore, and they all just get along. Very family friendly, English is everywhere, with all the mixed cultures, everyone speaks english. Politically it's a bit different, because there's a ruling party/family, they control everything, even the opposition, and they have their hand in everything. There are some privacy concerns, especially the first couple years when they don't know you, but they hand out residency pretty easily. I know people who live there and love it, it's a slower pace than HK and they like it that way.

From my experience, you are left alone to do your own thing, and they encourage entrepreneurs to setup shop. Maybe when I'm older I will have different priorities, but for now I'd rather be in a place that actually likes to have me and allows me to work my hardest during my prime working years and not get bogged down by regulations and insistence by a President that my success is not my own.

Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Iceland, Singapore.

None of em are perfect, but they're places I would consider. I prefer the cold to the heat as you can tell :)

I plan to stay here for the foreseeable future though.

Israel. My only hope at this point in human history is for the prophesied redemption. And that's where it will start.
