Has to kill his dog with his bare hands. Then other cops arrive and pull tasers and guns. Never call the cops. They are sociopaths. They are nothing more than inhumane f*cks. How much more f*cked up can it get?

RAINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man says a deputy responding to a burglary call shot his dog on Friday morning. The incident happened in the 6800 block of FM 514 in Rains County.

Cole Middleton was doing some repairs at his family’s dairy farm while his wife Jayna was shopping. He got home around 11 a.m. and discovered his house had been burglarized. Middleton says his guns, iPad and his wife’s jewelry had been taken.

Middleton called 911 and eventually took over harvesting silage from his grandfather. He and his father were in a nearby field when law enforcement arrived.

Middleton said when the deputy arrived to investigate, the deputy claimed the dog was about to bite him and shot the dog to defend himself.

“She’s barking when he pulls into the driveway letting me know someone’s at our house, an intruder is here, or a person who she would think was an intruder that she’s unfamiliar with. She’s barking. The officer gets out of his car, and all the while we’re headed up [there]. He gets out of his car and shoots my dog in my front yard,” Middleton recalled.

Middleton says the dog was shot in the head. He begged the deputy to finish off his cowdog named Candy since the dog was suffering.

“I was so upset. I went over there to her and she was still alive and I begged and pleaded with him to please shoot her again because I don’t have any firearms. They got stolen. He went and got in his vehicle and backed out of my driveway,” Middleton explained.

Middleton had trained Candy to be a cow dog, and Middleton says his dog was a natural.

“And then I had to do the unthinkable, the otherwise unthinkable. I had to kill my dog with my bare hands and put her out of her suffering, praying for this to be over with,” Middleton said.

Middleton said other law enforcement arrived and started asking questions.

“They then asked well whose blood is on your shirt. That is the blood of my dog that I was holding because this deputy pulled up and shot her in my yard. Then the tasers were put away and the pistols withdrawn,” Middleton stated.

Middleton says he then filed the burglary report with the Rains County Sheriff’s Department.

Middleton buried Candy at the foot of a tree where they had spent time together.

“It’s just terrible,” Middleton said.

Rains County Sheriff David Traylor declined an on-camera interview, saying the case is now being investigated by the Texas Rangers.

It's terrible how they just shoot dogs when they arrive for barking. Honestly they deserve to be shot for killing the dogs.

But I don't really feel that bad for the owner having to use his hands to finish the job. He's irresponsible for not having a firearm. He trained a cowdog so I assume he has cows. The say he lives on a dairy. You don't live in the country without having a gun. If you have cows, sometimes you have to shoot one when they are suffering.

All his firearms were stolen. The cop was originally responding to a theft.

This article has more details, says he was forced to drown the dog in a bucket of water to kill it.

It also makes it sound like the deputy was afraid they might do something to him , it says he got into the patrol car and got on the loudspeaker and ordered them not to approach. Then Deputy Jerred Dooley took off like the coward he is.

I'm sure later back at the sheriff's dept it was laughter and high fives all around ...

From the PoliceStateUSA story on this:

Middleton documented the incident in a detailed Facebook account. “When we call on peace officers for their help and assistance we expect them to serve and protect us, especially if we are the victims,” he wrote. “Serve and Protect? More like Invade and Attack.”

Harsh lesson learned Mr. Middleton.

Do. Not. Call. Cops.

Ever.

For anything.

although i completely agree on the don't call cops idea, the day is coming soon where you won't have to call them...they will just show up.

Funny, this creep Deputy Dooley looks exactly how I imagined he would, shaven head complete with cool Oakley shades. The DPS trooper there in the pic must be Trooper Hayes, the one who was mocking the victim and making light of the situation, waving at his camera like a jackass.

Meanwhile , some "true Texans" are wanting to hang some punk who urinated on the Alamo (which is really just a replica, and a tourist trap). He'll get 18 months in the state pen for that, while Texas law enforcers piss on Texans and laugh it up. I think the defenders of the Alamo would pee on it too if they could see what this place has turned into.

At least Deputy Dooley is getting a paid vacay out of the deal -- not many dog shooting cops get that! That's Tier 1 JBT stuff right there ...

He looks like every dickhead trooper I've ever dealt with. Shaved head + brown shirt = just looking to cause trouble.

And he's a coward to boot, he wasn't man enough to face the owner and do the right thing and put the dog down, he had to run off and then come back with other street gang members to back him up.

Leaving the man with the task of having to drown his own dog to end it's suffering, something that I'm sure will always haunt him more so than if the dog was just simply shot and killed.

Something I'm sure the deppidy could care less about; there was some state trooper's academy class a few years back that had as their class slogan "We Don't Get PTSD -- We Give It!" .

I just read that Deputy Dooley has been fired -- time to move on to his next LE agency ! Or he can go cry to an arbitrator in Austin, and he will be re-hired with back pay. Still, it's something positive at least.

" When, and if, the case is presented to their office by law enforcement for prosecution, they will treat it as any other case."

LOL, I doubt that , though I think an argument could be made for an animal cruelty case, since he refused to euthanize the dog at the owner's request, forcing the owner to kill it himself.

I read elsewhere that this deputy has a number of other complaints against him, including something involving a young child (not sexual) -- so it could just be that this incident was the last straw.

Family: Necropsy shows dog shot in back of head while retreating

An East Texas deputy has been fired after shooting a family's dog while responding to a burglary.

The family's dog, Candy, was shot by former deputy Jerred Dooley as he was responding to a burglary call at the home of Cole and Jayna Middleton, located on Farm to Market 514, in the Daughtery Community, on April 18.

According to an necropsy the family sent KETK, Dr. Kevin Bankston of the Hopkins County Veterinary Clinic examined Candy and determined the Blue Heeler was shot in the head from behind.

Rains County Attorney Robert F. Vititow tells KETK the investigation into Dooley's actions is ongoing. When, and if, the case is presented to their office by law enforcemtn for prosecution, they will treat it as any other case.

Wow. Fired while the investigation continues? That has to be a first. If that family had not had the dog examined this would have just been another "officer safety" "within departmental guidelines" situation. They need to be compensated for the fees and time for getting the dog examined. From a state payment backed to the tax payer as a lean filed on the property of Dooley.

This source says he was fired to protect him and the dept due to "threats" against him. Yeah, he'll be getting re-hired, once it all blows over -- no state arbitrator will accept that as a rightful termination. So it sounds like it's just a CYA move, he's not really being fired for what he did.

Hell, I'll bet deputies in that dept will go out of their way in the near future to do all the shooting they can -- it's not like they can all be fired, and I'm sure they're not happy that he was.

The Rains County Sheriff's deputy who shot a dog after responding to a burglary call on Friday has been fired.

According to the Rains County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Jerrod Dooley was fired on Thursday. Sheriff David Traylor said that it was for Dooley's safety because of threats. He added that it is the safest move for the department and the deputy.

Dooley will not be able to return to work at the Rain's County Sheriff's Office regardless of the outcome of the investigation, which is currently ongoing. The deputy was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday.

Lateral shift. Of course. "Gypsy cop." Like no dept. out there doesn't have all of the information on a fellow officer but, despite of the liabilities, chooses to hire. It's a blue racket.
