We have the Ron Paul grassroots machinery, it is time to fight for our country. Dr. Ron Paul is 72 years old and led this movement with great charisma. It is time for us to rise up and stand with him in office.

Most state congress seats only require that you be 21 and a member of your district for 9 months or more. For US senate you must be at least 30 and for US house I believe you must be 25.

Take advantage of the Dr. Ron Paul machinery that we have created and let us help you get elected. My roommate has decided to run for state house in our district and I am likely going to run for state senate for our district.

Defend the message, Defend the constitution, Let the revolution live on!

I've got a few more months to wait for the 9 month deal. Then I have to convince my wife that it might be a good idea. :P

~X~

I've been thinking about it, just don't know all the "ins and outs" of the whole deal! Is there any type of "Public Office For Dummies"? -Tyler

A few books that may help getting started:

How to Run for Local Office - Robert J Thomas

The Campaign Manager - Catherine Shaw

How to Win a Local Election - Lawrence Grey.

I wrote to the Ron Paul campaign for advice. When he replies I will post it. Feel free to do the same, let Dr. Paul know we are in this for the long haul with him.

Im thinking of running as an independent here.. I just gotta find a way to pay for 150,000 slim jims and Ill take it door to door in the entire district..

ANybody know how much 150,000 slim jims costs?

Wrong forum

While I believe that this is the key to taking back our country, and is inevitability where the Ron Paul Revolution will end up going, this is not news about the official campaign (Ron Paul for president in 2008). There is a forum specifically for this subject, entitled "Federal / State / Local Candidates", where this post belongs. People use "News About the Official Campaign" for exactly that reason; to get caught up on the facts relating to Ron Paul's 2008 bid, not get bombed by blog spam or read opinion posts placed strategically in this section to maximize readership.

I don't mean to be a grouch; we get compliments from other campaigns for our grassroots organization, especially informational references on this board. I think that keeping our info organized is one of our strengths. Just my 2 cents.

After I move back to IL and live there for about a year I'm seriously considering this. I hope that you are all still around at that time.

But Huey Long told me I have no chance lol

I'm not the best public speaker. I can be pretty shy at times. But I am working on getting rid of that bad feature of mine. I'll be taking more communications and public speaking classes next semester. I don't know if I will ever run for public office but I do have the passion for politics and I really want to be a major player in the revolution. So I figure might as well prepare myself in case I decide to later on

Support your state candidates!

I rarely see more than a few visitors in the "Fedral/State/ Local Candidates" Forum, which explains the placement of this thread...

Please make sure you check in there, and support your local and state candidates!!! It would be a killer if you showed up to vote for Ron Paul, but didn't know there were other Ron Paul supporters running for office on YOUR ballot!

Here's the checklist to run and get help raising funds..

What seat are you running for and where?
Why are you running?
What are your qualifications?
What campaign training programs have you attended?
How many votes do you need to win?
What’s wrong with your opponent?
Are you willing to tell the voters what’s wrong with your opponent?
Generally describe the political & demographic make-up of your district?
What’s your “game plan” for winning?
What are you going to do differently from others who have run for this seat and lost?
How much will your campaign cost?
What will you spend the money on?
How much have you raised so far?
How much of your own money have you put into your campaign?
How do you expect to raise the balance?
Who is working on your campaign (manager, consultants, advisers, etc.)?
Who is supporting your campaign (endorsements)?
Are you going to campaign full time?
What are your top THREE issues?
What is your campaign’s web site address ... and can you accept online contributions?
