CNN Poll Guiliani 16% (?!) Romney 15%, Palin 13%, Ron Paul 12%

Keep talking about abortion and economic issues Dr. Paul and the race will be all yours!

I'm still very pessimistic about this. The campaign isn't doing enough. They should be blitzing with TV ads pointed at the mainstream republicans right now.

IE. "Ron Paul is a veteran, a doctor, saw our financial crisis coming and knew where Osama Bin Laden was in 2003 (check?). He is also the only republican to be endorsed by Ronald Reagan himself, and according to a recent CNN poll has the best chance among republicans to beat Obama." etc etc.

They need to put out a "buzz" piece that quickly hits on all of the issues the status-quo republicans are concerned about; national security, economy, social values/Republican Establishment approval, and the ability to WIN. People will back a WINNER.

I don't think they should spend money on ads when no one is paying attention.

Yea, we should just spend it all on a blimp again...

Name recognition is key, and the campaign has enough money to put out short, effective ads. More support, more contributions, more ads, repeat.

In reality Giuliani is the perfect pick for the establishment. He can be their "dole" somebody who can run to lose, knowing he will lose and not have a political career afterwards. It is clear to me that a lot of the others are still hesitating on entering because they don't want to be the GOP's Dole of 2012.

I disagree--all that matters right now is the Ames straw poll (and getting Florida supporters registered for Presidency 5, which they are completely neglecting). After he wins that, then the money will pour in and it will be time go run ads in a dozen or so states.

luckily we haven't peaked too soon. That should be our talking point for romney.

lol!

At least we already have ads ready made against Ghouliani, they just need a little updating

sorry it isn't youtube so it doesn't seem to embed but it was pulled off youtube multiple times and I guess they finally gave up.

I don't know, they are cheaper now too. Some well targetted ones might do some good. Plus could give the impression of a winner.

Just to followup on this. Some of the big arguments from the grassroots was/has been that they didn't want to donate if the campaign wasn't going to spend it. A little bit of $$$ spent on ads in inexpensive timeslots on well-targetting channels could demonstrate that they are willing to spend to win. My 80yr old GMIL is a foxnews watcher republican and is up at 4am every day, those ads can't be all that expensive.

Cable ads are dirt cheap. I donated to the high tides airings last years and whether coincidental or not, Ron's vote percentages were way up in those states, and the time slots were pretty cheap. I mean, a thousand dollars got a few showings in a decent sized market in a rural state.

That's what I'm saying. They will get more expensive later, but I can't see how much it would hurt to lay out a little cash on them now...well targetted, specific issue oriented.

Come to think of it, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing to grab a block of ads on Fox in IA soon painting Ron as the family/economy guy. Dropping the website at the end might even help efforts to gather extra names for the Ames poll.

The campaign knows what it is doing. At least that is the gist around the forum -- so we'll see.

Yeah, I think we all agree that some ads in IA right now would be good.

Ghouliani is not a factor. In 2007 he was polling at twice this amount yet he never won a primary. He's not even going to run and it was a waste of time polling him except to let him know that once again he can't win.

Romney is the Ghouliani of 2008. Like abortion and dressing as a drag queen killed the Ghoul, Romneycare will kill Romney-the-zombie. (Un-dead themes are a good description of both the Ghouliani campaign and the Romney-zombie campaigns since both seem to be alive but are really dead inside and just go around eating brains of otherwise good people.) The good news his that Hermain Cain't is behind us in each matchup. If/when Romney implodes we are well positioned for the #1 spot.
