They do. It is the quintessential foundation & nature of government and politics. Everything else is veneer.
The pettiness of this particular case is just an especially apt illustration of the general principle in microcosm.

I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge. One thing is clear: this type of behavior is unacceptable and I will not tolerate it because the people of New Jersey deserve better. This behavior is not representative of me or my Administration in any way, and people will be held responsible for their actions."

Yes. Absolutely.

But whether or not they can paint Rand as a non-candidate simply because he figures Edward Snowden did the media's job for them (informing We, the People what's going on so we can rule the land as the Constitution entrusts us to do) is up to us. And it depends on whether or not we start innoculating all the Republicans we know from their crap right now.

Establishment Republicans like Christie because he is the best candidate they have, not because of some anti-Rand conspiracy. And don't make the mistake of assuming the "establishment" is a monolithic collective. Establishment Democrats and most of the Establishment media see Christie as a threat to Hillary. Just because Hillary and Christie believe in virtually all the same things doesn't mean the various factions of the establishment aren't bitterly divided over which of their lapdogs gets nominated. The difference between Team R and Team D might not mean anything to us, but to the establishment players it decides which side gets the better offices, bigger kickbacks, better jobs, and more clout in the DC Social Circuit.

Why would they take down one of their own? Christie is obviously a Democrat, hiding in a Humpty Dumpty suit ... He is just as Narcissistic as Pres. Obama and terrifying to imagine as a serious Presidential candidate. But then.... so is Hillary .. Of course, I believe the next President has already been appointed .. I believe the U.S. is an occupied country, ruled by a Saudi dictatorship, and only the best of actors need apply for a role in the Congress or White House. So no telling, what criminal will be our next fake President.

I do not believe it is an anti-Rand or Paul conspiracy. It is always a strategy in each cycle to ensure the best Progressive is in the White House regardless of the party. It just so happens that Rand is the threat in this cycle.

Christie is not a threat. The Christie hype is from the Neo-Progressive Republican establishment in his corner and the sheep that just happen to follow their lead. Overall he has too many negatives and would only carry the north east in the primaries.

Ron Paul 2007-08 and even 2011-12 are prefect examples of media and their polling sabotage.

Coincidentally, the 'Other Big Mouth' of the NJ/NY metro area, Donald Trump announced <INTERFERENCE> he's exploring a GOP presidential shot for 2016. These elitists know exactly how to control the elections/voters/country.

He really seemed to move way up as the man for the job recently. I suppose there are some that value this sort of thing.

Then the emails came out for the rest of everyone got to get in on what was going down.
 
I always find it fascinating that the one at the top never seems to be involved in the scandal. Huh...wonder why.
 
I wonder, are Obama and Christie lovers? They seemed mighty too chummy when they met after hurricane Sandy. Christie is the appointed one right now to win in 2016. A blob of mediocrity that appeals to fellow blobs everywhere.

Mitt Romney was the architect of Obamacare and the brain dead GOP faithful still nominated him. The sheep in the GOP will fall in line and support him because that's what they do
