New Jersey voters are giving Chris Christie his lowest marks yet.

A majority — 53 percent to 38 percent — thinks the governor knew about the traffic situation on the George Washington Bridge, but most say that he did not personally order it, according to a Quinnipiac University poll out Monday.

If it is proven that Christie ordered the traffic jam in Fort Lee, 34 percent say the Republican should be removed from office, 29 percent say he should be both removed and prosecuted on criminal charges, and 29 percent say he should apologize.

Garden State voters disapprove of the job Christie is doing as governor — 56 percent to 38 percent. The numbers mark his lowest Quinnipiac approval rating ever, as well as the worst rating for any governor this year in states surveyed by the university.

Voters dinged Christie’s 2016 aspirations as well, with 65 percent saying he would not make a good president, compared with 29 percent who think he would. And 64 percent say he should not even leap into the race.

Despite that, Christie leads his other putative 2016 GOP rivals in New Jersey with 22 percent, with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in second with 14 percent followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 11 percent and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at 9 percent.

In a general election matchup, Hillary Clinton leads Christie 51 percent to 36 percent.

The poll was conducted April 9-14, surveying 1,428 New Jersey voters via landlines and cellphones, with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 2.6 percentage points. The poll included 444 Republican voters with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.7 percentage points.

According to a Washington Post report, New Jersey state Sen. Joseph M. Kyrillos — the chairman of Christie's 2009 campaign for governor, who has helped Christie during his time leading the state — is now on Bush's side.

Christie and Kyrillos have been close friends for about 20 years, which Christie alluded to three years ago.

Christie is mulling a presidential run next year, while his fellow Republican Bush is expected to announce his candidacy soon. A Bush spokesman confirmed Kyrillos' switch to supporting Bush, and said the 55-year-old donated $10,000 to Bush's political action committee last month.
