Canvassing SC - 30% say "I would vote for RP if he could win"

Here's how you quickly convince them:

"A pro-war candidate will not win the General Election"

It's not who wins the Republican nomination that counts, but who takes the White House. Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who can take on the Democrats, and who is on the same side of the Iraq War issue as 70% of Americans.

This was actually confirmed in a Zogby Poll, where Ron Paul's bio beat out the other Republican candidates' by a giant margin, when everyone--Republicans, Democrats, and Independents--were surveyed.

Finally, tell them it's impossible to throw their vote away in a primary. Everyone gets two votes. Vote for your favorite candidate in the primary, and if that favorite loses, you can still vote for the greater of two evils come election day. In fact, with all other candidates (besides Ron Paul) being so similar in every way, why does it matter which of the others wins if Ron Paul doesn't?

we need to put out a national ad that tell WHY the media is not covering Ron. It needs to say that Ron does not take lobbyist money and the media is corporate controlled therefore, then covering him is not in line with their interests...

People are looking for real change this election cycle. The commercial should also show http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/select.asp?cycle=2008 website showing where every candidates money is coming from. Obama and Hillary have the most from lobbyists... no change there.... so does mitt and rudy... no change there...

What says change more than a candidate that has to put out a commercial to tell you about why the corporate controlled media wont cover him....?

Tell them John Kerry was most electable four years ago, and look what happened to him! "Electability" is just media deception trying to steal your vote. DON'T LET THE MEDIA POLLSTERS STEAL YOUR VOTE!

I always tell people that I believe he can win. I also tell them that if everyone votes for the "winner" then it is not really an election. If the "leading" candidate isn't your favorite, then vote against him, not for him. That doesn't make sense.

In a sense, to me Ron Paul has already won. I have only one vote, and he's earned it.

Seriously--how badly are people brainwashed by MSM? Literally 30% or more of the people I am canvassing are saying that they love RP's platform, believe in him and his policies, and prefer him for President over all the others. They all say they would vote for RP if he could win. The irony, of course, is that if everyone who said that, voted for RP--he would win by a landslide.

Tell them RP is the only GOP candidate with traction. No one has our money or our grassroots. No one unifies so many Republicans together.

preachin to the choir!! :D

People who can't name the vice president of the US suddenly think they are political strategists when they go into the voting booth.

In the Michigan exit poll, 12% said Ron Paul was the candidate most likely to bring needed change, but only 48% of those voted for him. There's your 6% right there.

19% of Republican voters were strongly opposed to the war in Iraq. We won only 20% of them, meaning we could have tacked on another 15 percentage points to our total if Ron Paul were viewed as viable and people knew where he stood on the issues.

I don't get it either, I'm just reporting what I'm hearing. How to open peoples eyes to this??

It's a defense mechanism; most people are worthless and lazy, and need something to absolve themselves for doing absolutely nothing about the state of the world.

So if they say he can't win, they can cease any meaningful activity without having any guilt. Cognitive dissonance.

When I go canvasing in Florida next week, I'll say to that question; Well, there's a lot of us out here trying anyway and are going to vote for him, I hope you'll try along with us.

Actually, their strategy makes sense.

If this is how you rank the GOP candidates:
1) Ron Paul
2) John McCain
3) Mitt Romney
4) Mike Huckabee

And you think Ron Paul can't win, then you vote for your top ranked candidate who CAN win (probably McCain in this case). We need a voting system that takes preferential ordering into account (and they do exist).

I actually think that we would be better off if lots of candidates dropped out, leaving us with Ron Paul and one other - it doesn't matter who, they are all flawed enough to drive lots of voters to Paul. Then people who prefered Paul would either vote for him, or at worst not show up. Right now they go vote for other candidates. :(

Let's just get rid of this democracy garbage, sheesh. Letting the people pick their leaders has obviously not worked very well.

Tell them then don't get any money if they vote for the winner. This is NOT a horse race.

First, ask them what THEY think it takes to win. Here are some responses:

Money

Platform

Electibility:

http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/november2007/191107_zogby_poll.htm

Grassroots

Then ask them if there was a candidate with the most/best (whatever they said it would take to win) and they liked the candidate, would they vote for him?

Then present the facts.

Now you have presented the RIGHT information to them that was custom fit to their needs. DO NOT just ramble off a bunch of facts or go down your pet issue trail. Tailor the discussion to THEM and THEIR needs.

I get these response the most. I usually say that the primary is intended for the people to vote for who they want to represent them. Talk about how it's what makes America great that ANYONE no matter how much $$ they have or family name can become president. But only if people like YOU will go out and vote. Bust out the stats that only 50% of people vote in the general election while only 8% of those people vote in Primary. Also now you can say over 80,000 people have voted Paul so far. Show that he CAN win on Super Tuesday we just need to win a state to erase that same perception they are having now.

If your talking to a man the fastest strategy is actually very very simple. I would argue it's the most important canvassing piece of equipment.

BRING A GIRL!!! -

good news!

It was a good night for the Revolution. As the primary season advances, my respect for the strategy prowess of team Ron Paul only grows. Dr. Paul pulled in a solid fourth place finish in the Wolverine State and is positioned well for Nevada and the super Tuesday states.

Getting less than 7% of the vote in the Michigan Republican primary ain't no thing for Dr. Ron Paul. He once again trounced his nemesis Rudolph Giuliani by getting more than double the votes and decisively beat the only other fiscal conservative in the race; Fred Thompson. As the race drags on, look for candidates to start dropping out or fade into a Hunteresque obscurity.

The most important result of the night was Former Massachusets Governor Mitt Romney trouncing Former Senator John McCain, leaving the entire race up in the air. There is no frontrunner. With the exception of Mitt Romney's self-financed campaign, all of Ron Paul's opponents are broke. This is a positive developement, because Romney is vulnerable. He will now have the scrutiny of the media on him in full force for the first time.

This is why I am so optimistic:
Conventional wisdom holds that a candidate has to win three primaries: the money primary, the press primary and the people primary. Paul clearly won the money primary. We lost the Press primary, but the internet and grass roots organization allow us to bypass it. By beating Giuliani and Thompson, it is no longer possible for the press to label Paul as a fringe candidate. The newsletter smear is dying a well deserved death and so is the bull market on wall street. All of these factors give our campaign credibility.

Everything hinges on the next moneybomb. Martin Luther King day is fast approaching. A strong showing will show our detractors the fiction of racism accusations and finance the big battles to come. I personally plan on doubling my teaparty contribution.

Long live the Revolution.

You say:
"So you'll only vote for who you think will win"?
Them:
"Well he can't."
You:
"Not with that attitude! Think for yourself. And who told you who to think will win?"

We need to start a database of people who would vote for Paul but don't think he can win. Maybe "HeCantWin.Com" or something. Tell people to subscribe to the site so they can see how many other people there are like them. Also, tell them to vote for Paul in phone polls.
