An American has been killed and at least one other wounded after militiamen stormed the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi, officials say.
It is believed the protest was held over a US-produced film that is said to be insulting to the Prophet Muhammad.
The building was set on fire after armed men raided the compound with grenades.
Protests have also been held at the US embassy in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Will we ever learn that its better not to meddle with other countries' affairs ?
Benghazi was supposed to be the capital of the "rebels" whom we supported !!
and Egypt was another of those countries where we brought "democracy" !

The "rebels" in Lybia are angry? We gave them so much free artillery and bombed their country to freedom, and this is how they repay us? Cairo, you too? You mean Egypt is a little harder to control when they don't have a US puppet installed there? Who would have thought the Arab Spring could turn into something we can't contain! You mean provoking civil unrest, creating instability, and arming multiple factions of "rebels" in countries doesn't always work out in our favor? Well now that we finally know this is a failed strategy I can't wait for them to apply it to Syria.......-sarc
The definition of stupidity comes to mind for some reason.

its too bad american were not smart enough to really understand ron paul , this will end up being one of the biggest chances to save this great country we will ever have.

i would have went futher than Dr Paul , i would get every american out of all arab countries , tell them to keep killing each other , when they are done give us a call and we will talk to the winner.

why can't americans understand , they have always hated america and more than likley always will.

They attacked an embassy, not a military base. Only American that deserves any blame in this is that dumb fucking pastor, but the lunatics reacting over a dumb pastor's video deserve the brunt of it.

They were targeting the ambassador that helped bring war to their country. the video is a side show to distract Americans from the blowback.

That may be true. Time probably will not tell, or at least won't be told by an authority whom I/we feel can be trusted.

What I think is more likely though is that some weak minded extremists were spoon fed this video by their ringleader to inspire hatred and violence. Its not uncommon for extremist Muslims to react violently when their prophet is insulted. I really don't think we need to go all conspiracy on this, as the attackers themselves reportedly said something to the effect of "we will meet your freedom of speech with our freedom of action". I believe blowback is real, but I don't believe blowback is what caused this attack. Or at least not blowback caused by our military. Just my $.02.

That's why if you want something done you gotta do it yourself, time to send a couple of our armored divisions in and turn the place into a casino.

This is exactly why a lot of people put Ron Paul on the pedestal... He is USA's last chance (perhaps in a long time) to save or at least stop the country's descent to hell.

16trillion debt... more wars starting... There are what? 1 billion muslims in teh world. Is the USA trying to piss them all off???

Libya was once a modern country relative to the rest of Africa. It was attrocious. We bombed electrical grids and water aqueducts because the civilians AND the pro-quaddafi forces were using it. Hell, we might as well bombed hospitals because pro-quaddafi forces were using it and hiding in it.

Secular dictatorship is now a pro-islamist, pseudo-"democratic" leader.

The Attack on the US Consulate Was A Planned Terrorist Assault Against US and Libyan Interests:

Source. Reliable?

The reasons for this are as follows:

24 hours before this attack, none other than the leader of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, released a video on Jihadist forums to mark the anniversary of 9/11. In this video, Zawahiri acknowledged the death of his second in command Abu Yahya and urged Libyans to avenge his killing.

According to our sources, the attack was the work of roughly 20 militants, prepared for a military assault – it is rare that an RPG7 is present at a peaceful protest.

According to our sources, the attack against the Consulate had two waves. The first attack led to US officials being evacuated from the consulate by Libyan security forces, only for the second wave to be launched against US officials after they were kept in a secure location.

The weak security environment in Libya including in Benghazi and the failure of the government to project its power outside of the capital have been used as a cover for the attack.

The failure to rebuild the defence and security sector, in an accountable, professional and responsible manner will only further the likelihood of such attacks in the future. Attacks in Benghazi are not new – the Red Cross has been attacked multiple times in previous months, as have the US consulate and also the UK Ambassador, and such security lapses encourage attacks. The International Community must take the challenge of not allowing extremist elements to hijack the Arab Uprisings very seriously, by renewing their focus on civic and governance responses to check the efforts of Islamist extremists attempting to exploit the inevitable security vacuum.

Just passing this along.

Is Libya or Bengazhi going to apologize for what the "minority" terrorists did?? Are they going after these terrorists (that USA brought in)?

I don't see this as Blowback. This took place in Benghazi, which benefited more from the American intervention than the other regions.

Remember the thousands of people on the street calling for the execution of British citizen, Gillian Gibbons in Sudan because she named her class cute stuffed teddy bear "Mohammad" after one of her students? Was that caused by "Blowback"?

Some of you shouldn't always be so eager to point the finger and blame our country. Our foreign policy caused some great disruptions, but it's not the end all-be all of the world's problems.

I'll gladly pay a lot higher oil prices if we could disassociate ourselves completely from the Middle East.

Against Libyan interests? Lol. Al-Qaeda took over Libya with the help of the US and NATO. They are doing what is in their interests. What stupid FOOLS.

The US govt has never been an ally of the Libyan people. In fact "we" have contributed to their suffering greatly. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/human-rights-watch/us-torture-and-rendition_b_1861389.html

I don't know, seems to me there is probably more to the hostility story than just videos and teddy bears.

+1 At some point the Islamist need to be held responsible for their actions. US military aggression doesn't absolve the mob of any responsibility, especially when the US interference benefited them.

This isn't blowback either, blowback is a defensive response to an act of aggression against you or perceived act of agresion to be against you.

Would our murdering Qaddafi by using multiple and opposing "rebel factions" (and US/NATO troops), scrapping their proposed gold currency and "gold for oil" plan he had just proposed to the UN as a way of giving the African Union some much needed legitimacy, so the US could set up a central banking plan that we control, after looting them of the gold they were going to not only back the currency but the gold currency itself and then just leaving their country in shambles to be haggled over by warring terrorist organizations the MSM would call the "Freedom Loving Liberating Libyans" be considered an act of aggression against their sovereignty?

Yes I am aware that is probably the longest run-on sentence you've read in a long time. So what. It's true.:D Google "gold for oil" sometime and see the list of world leaders who've just whispered the idea.....and what happened to their necks shortly after.

The definition of stupidity comes to mind for some reason.

The definition of profitability also comes to mind, in which light its a perfect strategy.
