Bible and the end of times..

LOL. Let me help you out a little bit. The idiot goat herders that wrote the bible thousands of years ago had no clue America existed. That's why it was not included. That book needs some severe updating. Not to mention it should probably be re-translated the King James version is a joke. And anyone who takes the bible literally needs to come back to reality.

Wow.

Their lack of knowledge of America may very well be the reason why America is not explicitly mentioned. However, that hardly made them "idiots". Regardless, hislack of mentioning America does not in any way invalidate Revalation.

As to re-translating... you should be made aware that there have been a great many post-KJV translations, including NIV, NLT, NAS... there's at least a few dozen. You speak of the KJV as though it is the best and most recent translation available... and while there are those Christians who for some reason seem to think that it is the only "real" bible, the truth is that it was based on some flawed texts, the language is outdated, and there are many better translations available today.

This thread and others like it on this forum are such great examples of religious freedom in action. I used to hate them as pointless, neverending, but now I embrace them. It's obvious by their frequency and length that people want this kind of spirited interaction. If you're really interested in Christian apologetics and interactions with lots of Christians on a variety of topics, crosswalk.com is a place I go.

For the record, I'm a former Agnostic turned Christian. Been Christian for most of my adult life.

Regarding the OP, Christendom has forever debated the end times scenario and how scripture should be interpreted in relation to the times in which people were living, and believers worldwide are still very divided on the matter. Though we are to study scripture and have informed opinions (of which I admit I'm derelict), I tend to concern myself with living the Christian life, and pray for the proper discernment and protection to guide me. I know that there are dangers for the Christian falling into all sorts of traps and being led astray, and Christ warns us of this. End times philosophy and resulting behavior is one of those areas. Christ says that He's returning, but He states that no one will know the time or place. We have to be very careful not to be too dogmatic when multiple scriptural interpretations are valid, and be rock solid on doctrine that is scripturally solid. To wit, there is a God, He's big (He created the universe), He loves us, He has a plan, and He desires personal fellowship with us. We can debate evolution vs. creation, or what the end of the world will look like, but there are foundations we can agree on that give us great hope, peace, and joy.

The Bible is a conglomeration of half-truths interpreted by others to manipulate and control...

Also to inspire, guide, encourage and console.

Not everyone is a Bad Guy.

That said, in the same way that it would be helpful if America's "True" Jewish population would cop to the REALITY that AIPAC is riddled with Bad Guys, it would be helpful if America's "True" Christian population...which gives every appearance of being a noisy Minority...would cop to the REALITY that Holy Roller Brass is riddled with Bad Guys.

Good people have been lead astray by men of the cloth...for gospel, that's bankable.

Most atheists are more well- read than you are.

Where would you like to start, Mathew, Mark, Luke, Romans...

Maybe you can tell me why it is that atheists feel the need to be such assholes. The atheists in this thread have done a pretty good job of offering up support for the atheist = asshole theory.

O.K

I believe in tolerance.

But...

When America elects criminals on the back of gay marriages, and right to life, it pisses me off!

Now the suffering begins...

And...

Everyone pays, Big Time!

America is destroyed. Fucking Bunnies!

So people are free to be religious just as long as they are only religious in private? That doesn't sound like religious freedom to me. I think you need to re-examine your understanding of the concept of freedom. Personally, I think the public arena is the perfect place for both atheists and theists to express themselves and their beliefs freely.

In the theist/atheist dichotomy, I will argue that the 'a' establishing 'absence of' is rightly the dominating influence in governance of a multiplicity of faiths.

Free, then...one and all, atheists and theists and agnostics and people who don't know one from the other and could care even less...free to EXPRESS themselves and their beliefs, free to allow their beliefs to set their behaviors, but not free to enjoin their beliefs upon non-believers via legislative process.

It has nothing to do with a atheists, Catholics, or snake spiritualists.

The politicians use you and abuse you. The media controls you.

You are bunnies.

...predicted in the Book.

Zionists condemned...

Lotta picking and choosing as to Biblical significance.

Jesus was technicolor clear about throwing Moneychangers out of the temple. Also about loving your neighbor as yourself...Universal You. One cannot have read the Bible without gleaning that we are charged with looking out for the least among us.

Life begins at conception?

I heard on C-SPAN the other day that 40-some percent of new recruits are on at least one waiver...be it tattoos, or experimental drug use, or age. Why do not Right To Lifers...Anti Free Will-ers...go to Iraq and Afghanistan to serve as human shields for innocent pregnant women? I feel certain it would have a mitigating influence on bloodshed in the region.

Peace on earth, goodwill to all.

Faith without works is dead.

Yep, Ron Paul conned the disenfranchised and he's using us!

And we believe everything RevolutionBroadcasting tells us!

I study history.

I suggest you do the same.

Well considering the Bible is the most accurate and reliable record of history in the world, you might want to take it more seriously ...

If you study history Im assuming you know what textual criticism is?

Compared to every other ancient text, the Bible has everything beat hands down, it's almost embarrassing

To be clear, I am not referring to Ron Paul.

The Republican Party has only sought to exclude him.

Please tell me I'm wrong.
