Bible and the end of times..

I swear. Thousands of years of evolution, education, scientific discovery and yet some of you still belong in a cave with a stone hammer. Yes creationism must be true because evolution would have evolved the human brain past utter stupidity by now. Wouldn't it have?

Thousands of years of scientific discovery and what? We know everything there is to know? How much of the universe do we actually understand, and how much more will we understand in another thousand years? It's impossible to answer.

Part of Christianity is the spiritual enlightenment you receive when you can humble yourself to accept that there exists a force, something "out there" that we cannot fully comprehend. Trying to make sense of it within the boundaries of worldly values makes little sense. That's why religion is such a touchy subject--spirituality and science don't exactly go hand-in-hand.

The unknown trumps science since science depends upon human cognition. Occasionally, science glimpses at the unknown when the unknown makes an appearance * within the range of human perception whether extended by technology or not. It's a strange, REALLY strange, world out there! ;) Unfortunately, I have some first hand experience.

* Transient phenomena such as spiritual experiences. The danger lies in assuming the unknown can't make a very real instantaneous appearance or disappearance.

What you say is intelligent and well understood. My problem more comes from the biblical prophesizing. When scripture contradicts what we know to be reasonable fact then we have to move on and develop if we are to be logical. Not that bible doesn't have some reasonable, logical things to say. It just also has some unreasonable, unlogical things to say. And End of Days is one of those unlogical things. The reason is that it is a whole take on good vs evil. Good vs Evil would all depend on what side you were playing for. And you will believe your side to be good. And so will the man who stands facing you.

Sure in the end everyone picks sides, but to what degree and how extreme is your thinking. Some people in this forum are just plain out nuts.

Bible and the end of times..

Perhaps you should learn about all the other foolish people (in the last ~500 years) who have believed the end is here, or near?
Do you want to help create a global Armageddon simply by encouraging others to believe in it?

Is this what mommy and daddy told you?

Mommy and Daddy told me that Jesus loves me, this they know. My dad was a preacher. My mom sang in the choir. All of my family including extended are Christians. My uncle is a missionary in Chile (and has been for over 20 years). My Grandfather is a deacon, and the list goes on and on. I never rebelled at all. No drugs, no rampant sex, no tattoos. I was a Christian until I started reading books that I wasn't assigned in school. Critical thinking, constant questioning, and an open mind have brought me to the understanding that it's all a big fake.

My journey actually started with me trying to understand more about my faith and why there were so many denominations. Funny where the road will lead you.

Revelation was about nero, and has been grossly misinterpreted as a tool to strike the fear of god in every church go-er forever.

That doctrine, along with the "left behind"doctrine was created by the roman church in the 16th century.
The reformers were pointing at the mother church as antichrist.
In response to those charges, the hierarchy assigned two priests to develop counter- interpretations which would turn the onus away from the mother Church.

In spite of the fact that the two men founded opposing schools of interpretation, their theories have survived to form the basis of most modern Protestant theology today. Not only did they effectively blunt Luther's assessment of the papacy as the antichrist, but they cleverly divided and diluted the "protest" of all the churches which grew out of the Reformation movement.

Modern religious observers were astounded in January, 1984, when men like Billy Graham and Jerry Falwell meekly accepted and defended the establishment of United States political ties with the Vatican.

Horizon Project - A Secular View of the End of the Age

As a Christian, I don't subscribe to everything presented in following secular work, but their basic premise is probably accurate in principle, i.e. the current age is coming to an abrupt end. The Horizon project basically views our earth as suffering periodic, sudden catastrophes where any surviving remnant loses all connection with its past. The Bible seems fairly clear that the end of the current age will lead to a permanent, not cyclic, golden age for believers in Jesus Christ. The basic premise of the Horizon Project is scary enough, i.e. land masses and their ancient civilizations have disappeared suddenly in times of physical shifts in the poles and the current earth is close to another pole shift.

Revelation concerned a specific time period 2000 years ago. The book was not written to warn Christian zealots 2000 years later about the actual end of the world
