I was thinking, and I'm not sure if the Tea Party has supported anyone in Connecticut, but maybe a letter writing campaign to the leaders of the tea party in Connecticut urging them to support Schiff could help the campaign. If anyone knows any info about this, I'd love to help.

Tea Party orgs in CT have endorsed Schiff, great thing to mention to callers.

The last two posters didn't even have the courtesy watch the video in the OP which debunks much of both of their posts.

Actually, I did watch it, and it didn't "debunk" a damned thing.

Schiff's only defense to his woeful poll numbers was "my unfavorable's aren't as high as those of the other candidates."

Well, the reason he doesn't have high unfavorable numbers is BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS WHO THE HELL HE IS! Candidates only have high unfavorables if people have heard of them.

He's been running for over a year, and he admitted that 2/3rds of Republicans didn't even know who he was.

When a candidate is polling in the single digits, and has almost no name recognition, it's not surprising that he has "low negatives."

That does not, however, mean he's going to win the election. Mike Gravel and Sam Brownback had "low negatives" too- voters had no idea who they were. I'm pretty sure neither of them won the Presidency.

I'd like to see him win, but realistically, he hasn't got a snowball's chance in Hell.

Schiff has been campaigning for over a year now. He got 3% of the vote at the Republican convention. He's polling between 5 and 13% among Republican voters. He's polling the worst of the three Republicans against the Dem (worse even than the guy who has suspended his campaign). He's spent most of his money, and he's running against a candidate who has almost limitless funds. Despite a year of campaigning, and spending most of his funds, the overwhelming majority of Republicans have no idea who he is, and there are only ~3 weeks left before the primary.

This is not the formula for success.

It doesn't take a political mastermind to figure out that this guy isn't going to win the primary without Divine Intervention, to say nothing of winning the general election.

I didn't tell anyone else to call or not to call, I just responded to the OP's request to explain why I wasn't going to call.

Go ahead and make calls for him if you like, but don't try to guilt or bull shit me into thinking this guy is going to win if a few more people make phone calls. I didn't just fall off the turnip truck.

Thats good to hear. I honestly don't believe he will win, but I think we should keep going so as to increas his name recognition. He could always run for the House in 2012.

Hence the reason we are calling 3,000-4,000 people each day... Peter only needs I think it was something like 45k votes to win

CT is a tiny state.. you were involved in the RP for President campaign, that was nationwide.. the fact that you don't think we can do something like this in a tiny state of CT is pretty ridiculous.

McMahon has unlimited money to spend, Dannno. She's already dumped $20 Million into this race, and I'm certain that she's doing daily internal polls.

If at any time she sees that Schiff is gaining traction thanks to these phone calls, she has the resources to out call us 10 to 1.

Seriously, this is like WalMart vs a farmers market.

Why I'm not calling:

1. As a one time telemarketer (in college), the phone banking is about as appealing as going to the dentist. I'd have to be really into a candidate to do it- I did it for Ron Paul, but Schiff isn't Ron Pauljust doesn't meet that threshold- partly because I've heard some things about him that I not thrilled about, and partly because...

2. ...he doesn't have a realistic chance of winning. The latest Rasmussen poll (yesterday) has him at less than 5% in the Republican primary (McMahon is at 52%, and Simmons at 38%- that ain't good, folks). If I call 100 voters, it's not likely to move him from 5% to 50+%.

Even if he pulled off a miracle of Biblical proportions and managed to win the Republican nomination, he'd likely get crushed like a grape in the general election. None of the three Republicans (McMahon, Schiff or Simmons) scores well against the Dem- they'd all be solidly defeated, but Schiff scores the worst of the three (He lost the poll 52-34 vs. Blumenthal). Schiff is an extreme fiscal conservative, and extreme conservatives don't win statewide races in NY/CT/MA.

His numbers were only slightly better in a Quinnipiac poll last week.

3. Like many Ron Paul supporters, I don't like being told what to do- whether from government, politicians, or other people. This thread has the wrong tone, like you are pushing us into doing something rather than asking us (I got the same impression from Schiff's video). That doesn't inspire me to want to help.

So, while I gave him a small monetary donation previously, I'm not going to volunteer to make calls.

Might as well leave a comment since you made the poll public, likely in an attempt to "out" the people who aren't "doing their part." So here's my explanation, chew me out all you want. I'm used to it.

1) I practically cold call for a living. So, if I'm going to make a phone call, its going to benefit me, not for the benefit of 300 million other Americans who I couldn't care less about. I'd much rather donate (which I have, but will not donate any more) than make phone calls.

2) Schiff hasn't much of a chance of winning. He's polling at 13% in the republican primary, and down even further in the general. McMahon, Schiff, nor Simmons can beat Blumenthal.

3) Schiff has said he wants only 1 term in the senate. So, knowing that, why would we put so many resources into someone who doesn't want to be there for very long. In politics, the highest cost from the grassroots comes in getting the person in, and hoping that their voting record keeps them there. With Schiff, this one time effort doesn't pay residual dividends, and that's simply a bad investment. Also, see #2.

4) As for why I won't donate any further, well, I'm not to happy with how funds are being spent. Peter suffered from name recognition. So, rather than run short ads that plastered his name everywhere and got more frequency for the $, he ran 1 minute spots. That's marketing fail 101.

I'm sure there's more, that's just off the top of my head.

I can´t believe that this kind of attitude can be part of our movement, part of freedom movement.

We support liberty candidates, because they stand for what we believe in not because they can win.

We wouldn´t even have this movement if we would have had the same attitude during the presidential elections of Ron Paul.

This movement is about educating the masses and by that way restoring the constitution! We need to support every candidate who sacrifices themselves for that cause. Peter has allready done much more for this movement than most of us can never even dream of doing. And now he can´t trust on your support ?

How ungratefull can people be ?

Guy is spending his time and own money for educating people and trying to get elected to clean up the mess and educate other senators and house members and he even warned us about the economic crisis and you won´t give anything back for him when he needs your help for a while ?

That´s REAL shame. Hate to see that kind of attitude in our people.

But if Peter wins, we all know who we should thank for that! Thanks for the phonebankers, you´re doing awesome job and making a difference! Even if Peter doesn´t win there are lot more educated people in CT after this election! :)

Agree!

We have tens of thousands of volunteers in this movement.

It seems that people can´t understand how much influence we can have!

We could contact every republican of CT like 10 times before elections and once in a election day! :D

CT is small in size, but it is densely populated and is actually 29th in population (not big, but far from "tiny").

It's not like Wyoming or S. Dakota where a small number of people can make a large impact in a short time.

Again, I've donated to his campaign and I hope he wins, but I'm a realist, not a dreamer.

McMahon would have to commit some sort of extraordinarily stupid and heinous act to lose at this point (something along the lines of going on a shooting spree).

If this was January and Schiff was polling at 5-13% with 36% name recognition, he might still have some shot, but it's far too late to turn the tide now, especially against an opponent who holds all the advantages (and who is largely campaigning on the same issues as Schiff).

So I'm going to spend this afternoon doing something that I know will have a real impact- volunteering at an animal shelter.

I can´t believe that this kind of attitude can be part of our movement, part of freedom movement.

We support liberty candidates, because they stand for what we believe in not because they can win.

None of us gives everything we have to politics- not me, not you, not Schiff, not even Ron Paul.

We all have to make decisions on how much time and how much money to give to each candidate.

I have chosen to use my time doing something else that will provide an immediate (and guaranteed) positive impact on my local community rather than spend the time on a Quixotic quest to help a candidate 2,000 miles away win a primary.

If you really believe we must give our all to support liberty candidates whether they can win or not, why don't you just sign your next paycheck over to my campaign?

I'm running as a Libertarian candidate for the Texas House of Representatives. I have no chance of winning, but what the Hell, you'd go to the mat at all times for any liberty candidate, right?

I won't expect the check anytime soon, because you are going to make a rational decision that it's not worth spending your rent money on my campaign even though I'm a libertarian running against a big government Democrat (the Republicans didn't even bother to compete in this district).

We all make that kind of decision on every race. Having analyzed Schiff's chances, I don't feel it's worth putting any more of my money or time into his campaign (just as you will surely not put your money into my campaign).

If you want to make calls, have at it, but you can't make the decision for all the rest of us.

I've had my first break in my work schedule and I've been up sense 9:00am and still going strong. I'm at call 75 and so far, majority of my calls have been leaving smart drop message but I did manage to convert 2 Linda's and send out some information.

Anyone that's on the fence - come on and do it. It's easy, I'm taking care of my 3 kids and doing this. You can even surf the web while you do it. Instead of reading Mises articles and listening to music or YouTube. Substitute one for schiff calls!
