I HAD NO IDEA!
What Got Lost in the Debate About Birth Control
I was quite surprised and a bit disturbed by this statistic. I had no idea having an abortion was so pop culture. I suspected under 10%.
Some other stats for you...
every year 2% of all women of child bearing age have an abortion,
and 22% of all pregnancies end in an induced abortion!
on the plus side...
88% of all induced abortions occur in the first 12 weeks;
which, in my opinion... 12 weeks (10 really) should be the cut off,
if we are going to have a cut off,
rather than the current Roe v Wade "viability" cut-off at 6-7 months.
I wouldn't mind the concept of Roe v Wade so much myself if it was at the "embryo/fetus" transition rather than the "viabilty" transition. I find the thought of a 7 month abortion stomach churning repulsive.

By age 45, more than 40% of all American women will have had at least one abortion, a rate almost twice that of Western Europe.
