30-40 Delegates in Virginia?

If Tate's talking about us picking up delegates in Virginia I'm assuming that they'll have to be bound to Romney for the first round of voting at the convention (?)

All I'm aware of is that Paul picked up 3 because he won a CD.

Yes this makes the most sense, that would be a huge coup if this is true.

That is what this poster is saying John Tate reported in Hawaii today.

That they will be selected at the State convention. Has anyone else heard this?

Sometimes it's good to know what is real and what is BS. John Tate doesn't know didly about what happened in Clark County, NV yesterday. The delegates in this state are bound on the first ballot and they are going to be distributed in the proportions Ron earned in the voting last month. That is all there is to that. If it gets to a second ballot, then it will be more interesting. But that number was pulled from his hindquarters. I was there yesterday, and he simply is not dealing with reality. We did very well, but that number of delegates is not going to happen. Ron is doing better than expected in a lot of ways this time, but lying to supporters is not the way to advance liberty.

He probably doesn't know how Virginia picks delegates and was figuring if we did as well in MN as we did on THAT straw poll......

I wouldn't try to take it to the bank.

Fairfax County filing deadline was yesterday. Fairfax is the largest County (1/7th of Republican voters in the state) and is the majority vote in 3 districts(so 9 national delegates)

The Fairfax GOP was in shock yesterday by how many people we pre-filed. At first they thought it was over 4,000, which would be largest turnout in decades. The GOP said "Ron Paul people turned in thousands"

We watched them sort the filing yesterday and today, and the guess is now 2800 total people filed. They should finish tomorrow and we'll start the process of marketing our candidates to all those who filed, and turning out our supporters to the conventions that occur in May.

We're feeling pretty good about our position, but not cocky.

This is the reason we can win the delegates from the other primary states like SC, GA, FL etc.

Get organized and show up to the conventions! Get elected or participate as committee members, chairman, state central committee etc.

I'm not sure many people understand what is possibly going on here. Shoot I'm not sure I even understand it. But AFAIK if enough people show up to be delegates at the local level (EVEN if the delegates are bound), they can move to the county level and then to the state level.

At the State convention, the delegates are the legislative body. They determine the rules. The delegates can completely rewrite the state party platform if they have the appropriate majority. According to Robert's Rules it is 2/3rds to suspend the rules. Once that happens, the delegates determine things.

Just like delegates at the county levels have kicked out and appointed new county chairman, given the majority they can kick out and appoint a new state convention/caucus chairman. This can happen in non caucus states.

You can literally have a soft revolution within the GOP-thankfully with no violence.

Well, duh. That's the hope. That he will get past the first round. It's looking more and more like there will be a brokered convention. Also, there seems to be some confusion about whether delegates are actually bound according to the national RNC rules. In the 2008 edition it seems to say that delegates can't be forced to vote a certain way. Read it yourself and let me know what you think.

I think if everything was organized correctly in Virginia it is very possible that Ron Paul could get 30 to 40 delegates. Let's face it, people really don't care a whole lot about politics these days. The people who do care aren't willing to spend the time to become a delegate. That's where Ron Paul supporters are different. They are willing to take the time. If everyone tries to become a delegate, we can win this thing. I'm even trying to become a delegate in my state (MI), where it may not do much good because of the rules in Michigan about 2010 delegates being the ones to go to the convention. But what the heck, I'll see what I can do.

Is Fairfax in Virginia?

I'm hoping more people will start getting it soon. It seems like I've explained this whole thing about a thousand times.

Just FYI how it works in virginia - each district elects 3 national delegates
The State convention elects 13

There is no "moving on" from one level of convention to the other, you either pre-file or attend a mass meeting in your County/City and become a delegate to the district and/or state.. Then participate. Then win.

Virginia's delegates are selected via party conventions. Romney only technically has the claims to the 3 per congressional seat. Tate is not pulling this one out of his @$$. I'm originally from VA and several of my family members are running to become delegates. The conventions in VA are where the real power in that state resides.
