^ This is a bit silly. Nothing prevented the families from hiring private detectives. And while I'll gladly criticize Cleveland PD any time they deserve it, I think downtown Cleveland is a very safe place and I'll give some of the credit to the police.

As for the gun issue, my guess is that neither of the girls had the presence of mind that is required to carry a gun. Lets face it, not everyone is suitable to be carrying a firearm. It would've been far more valuable if they had the street sense to avoid Ariel Castro to begin with.

In one case his daughter was best friends with the victim. In another case he knew a great deal about a gal's co-worker and pretended to be that co-worker's dad. I'm not saying that it's smart to get into that car, anyhow, but at some point you have to have a little trust. Hell, most kids can have all the "street sense" they want and still wind up tortured by family, so I'm not sure how this is relevant.

I don't know if I could be that upset if this were the case, but what if we just revoked his citizenship and ostracized him from society? Like drop him off in Africa or something? I feel kind of bad that taxpayers will be paying 40k a year for his detention and medical for the rest of his life.

Me too. We can still claim moral high ground over people supporting the death penalty, too! Woot!!!

His fate should be decided by the women he allegedly kidnapped, tortured, and raped after his guilt has been duly decided upon by a jury.

If I were them, and the system is what I think it should be, I would keep him alive so long as he can swing a pick in a mine and I can get the check. Once his muscles fail... there are plenty of hungry animals in the woods.

Though I am generally skeptical of what passes for investigation.

I just saw the interview on CNN with the brothers. Looks like they were completely deceived like everyone else. The reporter pointed out the women themselves stated the brothers had nothing to do with it. I apparently jumped the gun, so I wanted to come out and retract it.

One redeeming feature of our justice system is that these men if ever put in general population jail or prison will meet a timely demise.

It's not too late for that, despite charges being dropped.
