Can I ask where you're from? Maybe this makes a difference... I'm not from a big city. I'm from a small college city in Pennsylvania, and I've seen a blimp exactly once in my life that I can remember. It WAS a big deal, people were knocking on doors around campus to come out and see the blimp.

In fact there is a blimp that flies around my city monthly and I have no idea what it even says on the blimp. I guess it's like when people come down from the mountains into the city and flip out over the skyscrapers. Maybe I'm just spoiled by living in a city. I thought everyone had seen a blimp before.

But I think the FEC would have a problem with a company that specifically chooses NOT to be non-profit, then states as its goal that it doesn't want to make a profit.

Do I think they ACTUALLY want to rake in profits, as a company? No. But I think they must say that they plan to profit, and not contradict themselves on that point in writing (on a public forum or in private messages/emails), in order to keep it legal.

And actually, still only one. I'm living in one of the biggest metropolitan areas of the world now (Seoul), but no blimps here... I'd be excited if I saw one, even here.

And for culture shock, if you're ever going somewhere and need to stay in a hotel in a country-bumpkin town sometime... flick on the local news. I can guarantee you'll see a segment or two that will make you wonder "What the hell?? They sent a camera crew for THAT???" b/c it seems so insignificant. But there's just not much news out in the sticks, usually.

If the local ice cream social, bears eating garbage from people's trash cans, the number of deer hit on the highway lately, and random high school volleyball games get slots on the local news... a blimp in town definitely will.

I'm not sure about Hersheys, but think you meant they're a company that doesn't profit? I know they do lots of charity work, etc.

But Hersheys' primary purpose isn't to advertise a political candidate, falling under the FEC money-limit regulations... Hershey didn't come up with this as a way of getting around regulations, as far as I know anyways... and Hersheys has plenty of employees... it's a bona fide company.

why?
So they could endorse Kerry... and they did.

As a side note, Hempfest experienced the same exact thing. All of the sudden the organizers had sold out man, went all corporate, and "why are we volunteering when they are just in it for the money, man?"


I myself quit volunteering after that year, because they endorsed Kerry, who had a drug policy no different than Bush's.
But I do not doubt their intentions. It wasn't abotu the money, it was about loopholes in McCain feingold.

Seriously... Ok, again, NOT attacking you or anything. I'm not personal at all about arguments... this goes out to anyone who wishes to answer.

When I do things, usually I have a reason for doing them. If I'm just bored and have nothing better to do, I'll watch a movie, call my fiancee, or play some video games... *maybe* even read a message board, sometimes...

But if I'm POSTING on a forum, it's generally b/c I care about something enough to do so... there's a reason for making the posts I do.

So for those taking the effort to post stuff about A) the blimp is not useful/is a bad idea/etc. or B) the blimp has been mismanaged... question: What drives you to make the effort to post about this issue?

If the answer is that blimp supporters are annoying you, well, maybe you can explain how and we can present the blimp in a non-annoying way... (?)

They shouldn't be trying to force thier way into any airspace with a blimp! I live in central NJ and I don't think some of you understand how congested the airspace is around here and I seriously doubt people partying at times square would want a blimp over thier heads. How much gun fire can a blimb take before going down? It really could create a serious situation. I wouldn't suggest flying a blimp over a major city at night unless you have some serious altitude. People will think of it as a big ballon and start taking shots at it.

Any lawyer who would suggest something like flying over Times Square at night really should be reavaluated as they don't seem to understand the potential for problems.

People can say what they want - the fact remains these are the only people that have actually done something substantial to get a Blimp project off the ground in time for the early primaries Can you say the same?

As others have already pointed out - support of the Blimp project is not mandatory.

If you don't believe in it, make your concerns known and please move on.

If you continue to second-guess the project time and time again, what is being accomplished for the cause? Wouldn't it be better if you simply left and directed your energy to a project that you can feel good about supporting?

Haha, it's not THAT bad!! But really, there's just not much news out there. Glad I'm in Seoul now, though the whole nation of Korea is kinda the same way at times--not much news, so the national news is often full of fluff pieces...

By the way, the stories I mentioned are stories I really saw on the news at one time or another.
