I don't think he ever finished a complete sentence. he was on to the next sentence before he was done with the next sentence.

Ya know, I just got home and have just now finished reading every post in this thread. But I haven't yet watched the video. I'm almost afraid to. Many of the comments - and especially those from some posters whose opinions I generally respect - make me very reluctant to watch. I sometimes get so discouraged with the way things so often go for Ron, that I can barely stand to see any more of it. What to do, what to do?

I think there's been enough criticism. I would feel awful if Ron actually read these forums (apparently he does, he definitely reads the daily paul).
Just keep supporting the man, correct misconceptions and do literally everything you can to help in Iowa. Phone from home is a very good start.

Watch it. We tend to panic when it comes to these things, and when other people watch the repeat of it, they say it really wasn't that bad, I re-watch, and generally agree. He could have been much, much clearer though.

First segment on air and the online segment were great. He had a little trouble with the foreign policy in the second.

I'd like to think that what he said about fences keeping people in was a calculated political strategy, but I don't think it was. I think it was more of an off the cuff comment, and I believe that his concern was more along the lines of the symbolism rather than the actual physical fence. In this interview, I think he did embrace what he meant without backing down from the truth that, yeah even though a physical fence won't do shit to keep people in OR out, the truth is, the fence has two sides.
Most American's including this panel of interviewers absolutely refuse to see both sides of what "America" puts out there for the world. This is an attitude that needs to be changes on every level, not just immigration, national defense, the economy. Culturally, America has traded in a classic story of a free people fighting against tyrants and defending themselves from usurpers while maintaining morals, integrity, and hard work, into a throw away society, where today's good idea is tomorrows late night comedy joke.
No one takes anyone seriously in this country anymore. All that is left of the culture is that carnal fear of being taken over by some boogeyman hiding in the closet. This has manifest in to every aspect of society. Some folks are capable of pushing strongly in one direction or the other, distorting the manifestation of fear. The sad fact is that the last remnant of individualism in this country has been the justification for this every man for himself type of fear to allow individuals in our society to stomp all over each other just trying to make sure the boogeyman has someone else to get. All that needs to be done, IMO is for the fear to be faced, which simply means getting rid of the delusion that the United States of America can be destroyed by outside forces.
Folks, this country IS the boogeyman in the world because each individual lives in fear and will stop at nothing to protect themselves from forces unknown. The only time we work together as a country is when it is time to dish out punishment for whatever object has been deemed the boogeyman. This includes dishing out punishment to our fellow countrymen, an even harsher punishment than we dish out to the world.
I don't think Ron Paul was evasive on the fence question. I think he spoke from his heart. Ron Paul truly fears that one day American's will not be allowed to leave this country and travel freely. I believe that too, and the fence is just the first physical indication of that. So what, today it's used to keep Mexican's out? Tomorrow, we may be looking at the other side.
Oh, and a great comeback to the prison question, yeah America is essentially the largest prison in the world. Take a look at the incarceration stats. I wouldn't be surprised if close to 40% of adults between the ages of 21-55 have been incarcerated at some point in there lives. Yeah, it's a prison douche bag.

TV version did not go well. Online segment went pretty good. They looked like their eyes were glazed over when Ron went into education mode. These neocons need to protect the complex. RP is the only one that wants to size down their profits and control, so they will attack him in full force. This wasn't a train wreck, but it really did not go well.
True to a point, but at the same time we can't just be a bunch of "yes men", if I was running I would encourage constructive criticism because I would realize I'm not perfect and I think anyone who isn't trying to constantly improve has the wrong mindset.

I thought he did quite well overall.
Normally when someone gets grilled like that they start to break down pretty bad (inconsistencies, backtracking, etc). RP was at least as prepared as anyone else who goes on something like that, and anyone who watches the panel on a regular basis should be able to see that as well.

I agree. It just seems like Ron has done a 180 on the immigration issue since 2007. He's become influenced by the Libertarian Party on this issue. I remember he had some hardcore anti illegal immigration ads back in 2007.
