Worldview Discussion on Skype

Theocrat you only do this to indulge in how right you think you are... You will never change your mind ever no matter how much argument or discussion.. Therefore there is no reason whatsoever to have any sort of discussion of this kind with you.. Because you are so god damn right..

you are SO damn right about him.

Since you think you know, may I ask you what you think my beliefs on the origins of the universe are? This ought to be good..hey I like that pic!

I didn't claim to know what you believe. I was only curious if "magic" included any claim or theory on the origin of the universe be it creation, big bang, etc.

They are exactly the same when you claim to know or theorize as to what the something you don't know is.

This will be an opportunity for "free-thinkers" and skeptics to challenge and present their case for why God doesn't exist, why one doesn't need religion to be moral, and why religion is foolish or dangerous. I'm surprised more of you are not interested in this type of discussion because it's the sort of thing which brings to life all the fundamental questions of our existence.

So, come join us, and let's have a rational discourse on the things which we differ on in hopes we may come to a better light about the truth.

I'd like to come but I get no internet at my apartment. If you did it later, like at 11PM I might be able to come because then I could go to work very early (I'm in Italy, 11PM your time is 5am my time) and use the internet there.

Anyways, the only thing I'd really challenge is the methodology with which we deduce things, i.e. logic and rational thinking.

This Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 9:00 PM CST, I will be hosting a Skype chatroom discussion on religious/philosphical worldviews. Some of the topics to be discussed will be related to social evils, political beliefs, and religious commitments when it comes to science, logic, and morality.

I'd like to invite all members of this forum to attend this discussion so we can learn from each other and get to the bottom of our beliefs and proofs which we all take for granted as being true or correct. So bring your evidences, questions, and objections to the chatroom this Thursday, and hopefully it will be a lively and fruitful interchange of ideas.

My username on Skype is "Theonomist," so feel free to add me to your Contact List at your leisure. To sign up for a free Skype account, click here.

I am fairly interested in this, but may or may not be able to attend.

It's Not Necessarily About Being Right...

Wrong, my friend. I'm hosting this discussion because we are dealing with competing worldviews whenever we discuss anything in the world today, such as politics, rights, morality, which candidate has the best views on liberty, etc.

Of course I believe I'm right about my beliefs. Otherwise, I wouldn't have any reason to debate others against theirs. But that shouldn't mean we can't all discuss our views in a universal, respectful, and rational way. And, by the way, others believe their views are the correct one, too, which is why they challenge contrary views like Christianity.

In light of another thread which sought to "shut Christians up in ten minutes," I'd like to extend that invitation to the non-Christians who agree with the information from that thread. My challenge is if Christianity is so absurd, so dangerous, so without evidence, then let us all see if Christians can indeed be shut up in ten minutes. Bring your professors. Bring your professional scientists. Bring whomever you believe has a good case against Christianity not being true, and let's put it all to the test. That is what I'd like to see presented in this worldview discussion.

To those who would rather not attend, that's fine. If you believe this kind of a discussion is not important enough to engage in, then so be it. But there are people out there who do believe these issues are important, and they are the kinds of things which all of us take for granted and utilize in our view of the universe and all things therein. So it behooves us to seek the truth on these matters as best we can.

Most atheists wouldn't argue that Christianity is NOT true, but rather that there is no good reason at the moment to believe it IS true.

This is just another rephrase of "atheists, prove God doesn't exist", which is a straw-man of most atheist's positions.

Jesus told his disciples "They will know you are my followers if you have love among yourselves." I don't see this in Christianity.

Jesus also said "Stop judging! For with the judgment you judge, so shall you be judged." This I see in Christianity.

Dude, trust me, this thing will go WAY past 11.

Probably well into the next day -- frankly, it depends on when Theo goes to sleep (if at all). This is generally how the debates worked out in Vent.

Probably. This is why I don't get drunk and go to the Vent anymore. Tired of waking up at noon. I'm an early riser now. :)

Wait, I just realized, the OP says CST, but it's actually CDT right now. Are we going off of standard time (which would put this at 10 PM CDT, 11 PM EDT) or daylight (9 PM CDT, 10 PM EDT)?
