Why you need a carbine for home defense

I feel sorry for anyone shooting a 12guage from their hip.
Depending the load, it wouldn't be too bad.

I've seen a few brag they were avid shooters, almost throw an Remington 870, 18.5 inch barrel, pistol grip, on buck shot.

You certainly want to have hold of it.

There is a home defense theory that you use your hand gun in order to get to your long gun ( shot gun and/or rifle[carbine] ).

And it is a correct theory.

I prefer an SBR for indoors. Maneuverable and LOUD. 5.56 out of a 10" barrel is ungodly thunder, which can be very effective in disorienting an intruder, even if for but a brief moment. That's when you take your follow-up shot.

Read and heed. Depending on where you live, you may also take it with you in the convenient computer carry bag.

I cannot recommend PSA. 2 out of 3 orders from them have been screwed up (they fixed them though). I got a "premium" bcg from them and the staking on the gas key is a joke. It's like they hired the drunk monkeys from Century. I had tolerance stacking issues trying to mate a lower to another brand upper. I just read about another guy whose upper wouldn't fit on his RRA lower. Then again, RRA is another brand to avoid. Oh, and for damned sure stay away from there buffer tubes. They use "mil spec diameter" 6061 low quality metal vs 7075 which is twice as strong. I learned that later and now need to swap out a buffer tube from them.

Honestly, if you want good quality AR-15 components you have to pay to play. Colt, BCM, LMT, Spikes, Daniel Defense, KAC, etc are a few of the better brands. FN is now producing an AR-15 and I wanted to love it and get several but they are not making it mil-spec because they don't own the TDP and part of their contract says they can't use the TDP to make AR-15s.

You simply have to pay to play. As for the poster looking to get a pinned 14.7 inch upper that is legally 16 inches with flash hider, BCM offers that.

BTW, no matter what brand you get, always upgrade to the Colt Gold extractor spring. It is worth the 6 bucks.

i don't disagree with you. BCM turning out a 14.7 should be the superior product. I will point out that as Colt Defense owns the TDP, only military parts can be truly mil spec. Even BCM has to guess.

Example - suppose the takedown pin should be diameter .245 inches, the TDP tells the acceptable variance - say from .2440 to .2460 if BCM guess too close and will only accept .2445 to .2455, then BCM is actually producing the superior product, but the information the market needs in order to know is property of Colt.

Personally, I only use Colt and FN military parts on mine, and the only lower I would buy is NoDakSpud "Yes, our lowers fit tight. We did that on purpose."

I've been looking at the same thing but with the drum for over 10 years. I know I might never get it because there's always a need for something more pressing, but I can always dream nostalgia.:D
