Why do we even need a president? Does he not represent a King?

Seriously.

Why even have a president? Doesn't the idea of having an ultimate ruler eventually lead to tyranny? Doesn't the celebritization of the presidency fool the public and give unwarranted power to one person?

Why did the framers even allow for this "president?"

yeah i've thought about that also the fact that 1 person or a group of people can know what is best for 1 person or 2 people or millions of people is silly.. in my opinion lol

the president's role was never even that large. it was intended just to direct the military that wasn't even always "standing" and maybe constitutionally enforce some laws if something went wrong.

I always thought it would be cooler if we had 3 or 5 presidents and they would pick the 'speaker' or chair of the executive branch. be like a smaller congress with different things to do. If we did that then it would curb the crazy in the executive branch a bit.

Where did you get the idea that the president is a ruler?

Oh yeah,,,public schools and the media. :(

The primary role is as a representative of the people to the world.
He is not supposed to tell us what to do, we are supposed to tell him what to do and say on our behalf.

President is a part of checks and balances against the other branches of the Government. Presidents are NOT Kings, although today, they sure as shit act like it.

That's what Switzerland has. They also have pretty much the most decentralized state in the world. They even have a referendum everyfew years on the national income tax, which if repealed would essentially dissolve the confederation.

So technically the president's only focus should be on defending this country from invaders. Whoever thought instead we would have a string of presidents who like to go around the world and pick fights with the people WE are trying to trade with?

This, and I'm disappointed that Pete's the only one who's gotten this right.

The President is a glorified cheerleader. A beauty queen. A public face on what should be a reliably uninteresting series of laws and goings-on in the United States Government. He goes about the world and chat's up foreign leaders, and tries to secure benefits and agreements that are to our benefit without entangling us in their foreign affairs. He gives the State of the Union and other communications that go directly to the American public. He is our customer service representative. The Commander in Chief role was more significant many years ago, or should have been; we have more Commanders than we know what to do with. He nominates people for certain positions, appoints some to others.

With Executive Orders, though, you see the President making policy far more often. With the War Powers (when it's even invoked), you see the nation being dragged where the President wills it. With Government bloating to such a massive size, we the People are crying out for it to be fixed... which provides an excellent chance for the villain to play the hero, leap in, and "save us."

There is a President in the Constitution because any Government needs that kind of figurehead, imo, to interact as already stated. How we got from that idea to the farce we have now (where the First Lady is influencing policy and globetrotting to carry her message of wholesome, expensive nutrition to Africa)... ugh.

Switzerland sound cooler by the day. To bad they have it. I always thought that I had some kind of revolutionary Idea. Damn Swiss beat me to it I guess.

Why does this question come up?

When I'm securing my house I don't ask, "Why do we have to have burglars?" There are burglars, and I want to protect myself from them.

If I were president, I would tell every nation in the world, "I don't give a shit about you."

What would that accomplish? I don't know, but at least they know not to ask for money or favors.

Does he not represent a King?

Actually, He is supposed to represent 300,000,000 kings.
;)

a good read on this subject is in Tom Woods' book 33 Questions About American History You Aren't Supposed To Ask

i'm not saying the whole "american aristocracy" started with FDR, but he thoroughly promoted the idea during his presidency.

Why even have a federal government? Just like war, what is it good for? Nothin. All you need are the states and a unified defense. So, abolish the federal government, keep the pentagon which would be a privatized.

Read that.

That is actually one of the reasons I made this post. The imperialist presidency. Let's do away with the presidency altogether. In fact, let's do away with the federal government altogether. Sure, you will have socialist states like Illinois, but at least you could vote with your feet.

And for anyone that thinks that feds will send the army to extinguish any threat of secession should realize that during the civil war days, people were very much isolated from others around the country. It was much easier for people in the same country to go to war with each other. There is so much travel and communication nowadays that I don't think that will happen.

I will refrain from furthering my rant. I started drinking at 6AM, it is 11AM now, I'm still going strong.

Government by committee. Not a great idea.

The founders created the greatest form of government the world had ever seen. The point of the President was to run the military, and to put the brakes on Congress when they needed it. The strong executive branch was an FDR creation. That and the 17th amendment messed up the system.

No. We need to return to the Constitution. Yes, this country has been perverted beyond recognition. That needs to be corrected.

And as to voting with my feet,,, sorry.
I own land. It can't be moved, I can't carry it. I will vote, I will work for change. If necessary I will vote with bullets,, if pushed that far.

We need to take this country back. Not run away.
