Why do we care about Russia invading Georgia?

Georgia does not get to have South Ossetia just because they have had it for centuries. They have their own government and the citizens want nothing to do with Georgia. Georgia is tyrannical, so I definetely support the decisions of the citizens.

You still are missing the point. Georgia bombed innocent Russian civilians and South Ossetian civilians, and many Russian peace officers were killed. Russia had a reason for invading Georgia, while you and the rest of the MSM are ignoring it for some reason.

The correct phrase should be "NATO-backed Georgia invading South Ossetia"!

I can't speak for the MSM but I'm not missing any point. Georgia may have attacked Russian "peacekeepers" but what were they doing in South Ossetia in the first place. Georgia has every right to kick them out.

By your arguments we have every right to have invaded Serbia and Iraq. Do you agree?

South Ossetia is mostly Russian citizens. The Russian army was protecting them and the South Ossetians.

This is nothing like Iraq. Besides, when Hussein was committing genocide against his citizens, we knew about it and we still gave him money and weapons. Then we invade him over a decade later for the same actions. That is just stupid.
 
That is what wars are for. Determining sovereignty and borders. If there wasn't a border dispute and sovereignty issues, there would be no war.

Seriously. They still don't get it. Why the fuck do these people think that Georgia has the right to bomb innocent civilians and Russians in a break-away region without any repercussions?? Why do they think that Russia would just sit by while their citizens are being slaughtered? Where am I? Is this a Ron Paul supporters forum?

That's false. South Ossetia is only 2/3 Ossetian and 1/3 Georgian. Why should the 2/3 who claim Russian citizenship (which is also bogus intervention on the part of Russia) decide the fate of the region?

And regardless of how long we waited to attack Iraq, the fact of the matter is we used genocide as a pretext. Russia is doing the same thing. How is that different? How is it ok for Russiasn to agitate South Ossetians against Georgia?

Yes, and it would make sense for Ron Paul supporters to sympathize with the struggles of Georgians to maintain their sovereignty against Russian aggression.

Well, the proper liberty understanding is that the individuals are sovereign, and not Georgia itself. Georgia as a nation receives it's sovereignty from the consent of it's sovereign inhabitants. The South Ossetians have, apparently, overwhelmingly withdrawn that sovereignty from Georgia.

I fully believe in the right of a people to withdraw themselves and their lands from any nation. The South Ossetians would be completely justified, in my opinion, to fight the Georgian attempt to subsume their land and persons back into the Georgian state.

Russia's position is an interventionary one in some respects, but it is an intervention that is strongly supported by the sovereign individuals involved. South Ossetian resistance is fully justified and they have accepted Russia as the military champion of their cause.
