I think many of the Tea Partiers (maybe not the majority) will fall asleep if the Republicans get back Congress in 2010 or the White House in 2012.
That is the danger of being hijacked.

'well, sir/madam, they're going to keep doing it wrong until you join me at the county, district and state conventions and you help me make that core goodness spread throughout the party. Because until then, they're going to keep doing what lines their pockets the best and you know it. Now, if you want a real choice come help me work for it!
Alright, well, the first step is to bring all the troops home and end the world empire. Let's see how many of these people are on board with that.
Where was I ?
Hi, I'm new here. This is my first post.
I was working and not really paying attention. I've been a loyal Republican all my life, as were my parents.
It wasn't until I retired and had time to unwind, relax, and start reflecting that I realized, among many other things, that on every single platform or principle that was my strongest desire in any election year, the Replublicans had lied. They subsequently took an opposite or ameilorated position.
Then in 2007 I was overcome by a deep interest in economics, from watching the news of the economy. Something very strange was happening that I didn't understand. I bought several books including Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" and started reading. Later, more books and the internet. By this time I'd learned enough to have serious questions about Keynsian MacroEconomics and the Chicago School and started looking for other "Schools". I found mises.org and began reading. They've become my Economics school.
So by 2008 I knew I no longer wanted to support the Republican party. But I would not be disloyal to the person and party I'd voted for. However, as soon as it was over, I changed my registration to Constitution Party.
I've voted in every election, all my life, and will continue to do so. But I will never vote for a Republican or Democrat again. I will vote for any name on any voting ticket that is Constitution, Libertarian, Independent, in that order.
I attended the Tea Party demonstration in our small city and talked with the prople there. There were about 100, and I'd guess 2/3 were from a much larger neighboring city. Of these 100 people 2/3 did not support Ron Paul and were happy with one of the 2 political party machines, they just wanted lower taxes. There were no military. There were 2 retired policemen. The other 1/3 wanted more changes than lower taxes but they weren't sure how much more or what. A few thought the government would somehow attack them for just being there. Of those that had heard of ron Paul, most thought he was too counter-culture.
At the end of the day, I was amazed at how far I'd traveled from the main-stream.

They needed US before this could happen.
WE are the reason this is happening.
You hear me?
WE ARE THE REASON THIS IS HAPPENING.

Amazing what can happen when a couple of kids in their momma's basements ... get ahold of a couple of lighters.![]()

Taxes and spending were ok because we were "fighting a war for our freedoms".

Need to be a little more specific with what "we are reason this is happening" means.
Because Ron Paul and us had nothing to with the 5,000+ tea party happening in Madison, Wisconsin this past Wed. Congrats to those that organized Ron Paul tea parties across the county. But, by all accounts, the majority were GOP related events.

You know the seed you planted is taking root when you see the idea popping up elsewhere ... and no one can quite put their finger on where exactly they originally got the idea.

For example, in Wisconsin, the tea party at the state capitol in Madison, was initiated by a GOP PAC group. The first speaker was a congressman (R) that voted yes for the $800B banker bailout. The second speaker is the state GOP chairman that spent months trying to get McCain elected. etc.etc.
I had high hopes for this, but then they kept adding more and more neocons to the lineup.
I saw the same Ron Paul fans/C4Lers that I've known for months with Audit the Fed signs, etc. The rest of the 5k were of the mentality Bush was good, Obama is bad.
A small percentage will ever "get it". In the U.S., we had 5%, or 1.2M vote for Ron Paul in the '08 primary. What would he get now ? 6% , 1.4M ?
The federal government (and I venture to guess every state government) has grown virtually EVERY year for the last 100 years. There are only a couple ways off the road to serfdom, and those are turns few want to take.
