Whatcha fixin' for Thanksgiving?

When i was younger , my Mother would take most of whatever was left of about a 30 lb bird the next day , throw it on the grill and baste it with thick teriyaki sauce and heat it until it carmelized. Then we would eat that as sandwiches or with leftover mashed potatoes , gravy , noodles , green bean casserole , oyster dressing .

I haven't had oyster dressing since my granny passed away - 1996 was the last time.:(

One Thanksgiving, my uncle brought a wild turkey he killed and my granny cooked it. It smelled disgusting. I think that poor turkey was half dead when he killed it. That was the year the turkey got drop kicked off the deck. My uncle got mad because everyone was picking on his stinky turkey and he drop kicked it off the deck, lol. My mom suspected that he found it dead. That uncle is known for picking up road kill. o_O

Spanakopita sister in law is a militant Democrat. She told me I should go to prison for treason.

so her chair will be in a cage in the yard? Next to the dog who had cabbage for breakfast? Between feuding kids?

My kid somehow managed to test positive for turkey on the allergy list.. so this year,
roast pork,
gravy,
yams or buttercup squash.. haven't decided yet,
something green.. maybe brussel sprouts.. maybe avocado.. maybe creamed fresh spinach -
dessert .. I think I'm going to do a tropical version of a trifle instead of berries, mandarin oranges, instead of brandy, rum
grocery stores tomorrow .. won't finalize the menu until then. I might just get or make a cheese cake instead of trifle.. depends on what I find shopping.

A turkey sandwich a bottle of Chardonnay and a blanket on Siesta Key Beach :)

Last year , Christmas was Prime Rib & Ham . I have a ham set back already , not sure what else to do , maybe shrimp cocktails ?

For the non-DIYers, there's always plenty of good stuff at Boston Market. We're having turkey and lamb as well as many of the standard sides that have been mentioned. My SIL is muslim and not sure of how many of her family will be there, so the alcohol situation could be a bust.

They don't have to drink. I have muslim friends who come over (not for Thanksgiving but other parties) and there's always alcohol being served here.

My bro typically follows their protocol on things when they're around. My SIL is westernized w/ no hijab but her dad's side is full blown sunni and all the other females have only the slits of their eyes showing. They're nice enough but I'll just say it's not what I'm used to hanging with. It's like a microcosm of their 2nd wedding.

Btw, sorry for ruining your thread.:p

Didn't ruin my thread.:) I don't care if people don't drink, I do. I've got an Aunt who went evangelical and tried to get everyone else to quit drinking once. She told my mom she was going to hell for drinking wine, my mom told her that she was going to hell for being a bitch and reminded her of the time when they were teenagers and she beat the shit out of her over a bottle of nail polish - told her there was more where that came from. :D
